Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes America/2013/Middlesex and Monmouth County, NJ

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wikipedia Takes Middlesex and Monmouth County, NJ is part of Wikipedia Takes America and Wiki Loves Monuments in the US in September or October 2013. It is a photo scavenger hunt in which people take pictures of landmarks and notable locations in the counties of Middlesex and Monmouth. Automobiles recommended; this is largely suburban territory.

Some potential monuments and landmarks:

  • Edison Monument
  • Atlantic Highlands
  • Progress in recovery from Hurricane Sandy at the Shore
  • Keansburg
  • The train stations. Aberdeen-Matawan is interesting, because it went through multiple stages of development, and then they were left there instead of demolished. New Brunswick is a nice old station; Metropark is pretty new, and there are plenty of others.
  • Sandy Hook
  • New Brunswick's skyscrapers
  • PNC Bank Towers in East Brunswick
  • Englishtown Auction Flea Market
  • Route 9 and its shopping centers and bus route

Anything else you can think of?

  • Date and start time: Early October?
A suggested time is 12 noon on Saturday September 21, but you can pick differently based on local conditions.
Pick a starting point for the day, probably outside near a downtown landmark. Greet everyone and explain how it all works. Bring a Wikipedia sign or something similar for recognition!
  • After-party place and time (optional): maybe a shore location
Optionally, designate a cozy spot for an after-party in the evening, can be a bar or restaurant. If you can upload some photos there too, all the better.
