Has it been made clear to the students on this course that the references they add to an article should be the sources they have used to find their material? I have a very strong impression that at least one student here has added lists of references sourced from other people's articles on patient-oriented websites, thus giving the false impression that they have themselves consulted various journals, conducted a telephone interview, etc. I urge the teachers of this course to take more care to make sure that students understand the basic ideas of sourcing their material, before being encouraged to edit this international encyclopedia. I second that. And sources aren't being cited appropriately; the editor who worked on Presbyphonia ignored the module on citing sources, or never got it. Books need page numbers & ISBNs... journal articles should include PMID. I have no idea what "Goodman, A. (2008). from: enttoday.org." is referring to at all. :( Every ref is poor. Copyright[edit]

Do the students on this course understand that they should write in their own words, not steal other people's sentences? Transoral robotic surgery contained several chunks of other people's words. I'm not sure that I've identified and removed them all. PamD 22:53, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have now found that one of last year's course articles, Arytenoid granuloma, is entirely made up of text stolen from this textbook. It appears highly unlikely that the student editor had read any of the sources they cite, which are almost certainly those cited by the textbook. This is disreputable academic practice. So last year's students didn't learn anything about copyright, or didn't choose to apply their knowledge. If the student who "wrote" this article got a "pass" mark for the course, then the instructors involved should get a great big "fail" as they are letting down their students and allowing the encyclopedia to be corrupted by lazy editing.
