Copyright status[edit]

[Moved from main discussion]

  • More importantly All these images should be moved to the Commons: It says right in the Lower Left this was a creation of the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee. That puts it under Crown Copyright. Crown Copyright only gives 50 years from publication. Hence, fully PD. See Edit 2 for the template to use. • Please refrain from use of all boldface; that looks like shouting. The bibliographic notes also state "Bassano, Bond St. W. ; Printed by Johnson, Riddle & Co., Ltd., London, S.E.", which left me uncertain whether an individual named Bassano owned the copyright. The hosting, however, is not a pertinent factor for FPC consideration since it definitely falls under US public domain, whether or not it is PD in its home country. • I think you're overthinking this a bit: If it says on it it's by parliament, which it does, it's crown copyright. That they hired another press to handle the increased workload, or hired an artist to create it specifically for them, doesn't change that. (Also, Bassano appears nowhere on the poster itself, and may be a mistake by the LoC. I couldn't say, but I have seen several situations where the information is clearly wrong.) • Actually was just taking the conservative approach. If you're confident that crown copyright covers this then by all means move to Commons. Remember I'm an ignorant Yank. ;) Durova332 15:45, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
          • Found him: Alexander Bassano, did the photograph this is based on, died 1913. Perfectly safe. Shoemaker's Holiday Over 213 FCs served 15:46, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
            • Wonderful, thanks for your research. I'd been meaning to post a query but wasn't sure where. Durova332 15:57, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've put mine on there, if you grab the author list and permission tags, you can copy over yours (it'll keep the credit intact) Shoemaker's Holiday Over 213 FCs served 16:16, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
