Background[edit]

It occurs to me that there might be reason to regard the following as mere, or mostly, vanity (however perverse a form of vanity) and much or all of it might be dropped out of the essay, but even so, preserving such vanity in its first-saved-revision form would, here (heh, heh) on this talk page, be treated as harmless background:

The first contributor to this essay -- a self-confessed obsessive-compulsive, who is aware that this essay probably only represents a minority viewpoint -- has made a practice of writing, instead, either "on the accompanying article page" (or -- when willing to stop and think about whether only one article is under discussion) "in the article". That contributor also sees piping the word "here", on talk pages, to this essay as an alternative (and perhaps less distracting) practice, that still lessens the opportunity for confusion that is at least theoretically invited by the ambiguous use of "here", which use seems to be reflexive for many of our colleagues.
