permanent semi-protection[edit]

Some Wikipedians have proposed to permanently semi-protect high-use templates instead of full protecting them. Adrian Buehlmann 07:14, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Protect this page, too?[edit]

Why not protect this page too (locking it to only admins or whoever is deemed necessary)? It seems only logical, as the information on this page should be official and not subject to unauthorized change.

Semi-protection might be appropriate if there was some vandalism, but it only seems to have been vandalised three times in the past year; it's a pretty obscure page, and hard to find if you don't know about it. In theory, it should be updated by anyone who unprotects one of these pages, or anyone who protects a page with the intention of having it protected indefinitely – in which case full protection would be OK – but in practise this does not seem to happen. Full protection would have prevented me doing this, for a start – Qxz 10:36, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Dumbass has been protected since October 10. Should we list it here? Khoikhoi 06:56, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That page seems to be essentially a protected deleted page, except it has a link to Wiktionary instead of the standard protected-deleted notice. Such pages don't seem to be listed here, presumably because they have a category of their own, although they also seem to be deleted after a while, whereas this one has not been (or more accurately, it has been repeatedly deleted and recreated). Bit of an odd case, really – Qxz 10:31, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Img.png[edit]

Regarding the inclusion of Image:Img.png on the list of protected images, this page does not appear to be actually protected. The history indicates that vandalism/removal/etc. has not been a problem with the image, but nonetheless it seems the page should either be protected or removed from the list on this page. (The image page was protected on 12 January) – Qxz 10:25, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template:GDFL[edit]

This template has been deleted so should be removed from the list.--Osidge 15:09, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Banner.gif[edit]

The image Banner.gif was recently deleted. Should it be protected and added to the list of generic image names? --RobertGtalk 12:00, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Obsolete?[edit]

I doubt this is comprehensive... last updated on 28th of Dec... can this be considered out of date? -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 10:37, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This was removed:

The following is a list of pages that are indefinitely protected in a way that is not in line with the protection policy:

Edit summary was "No, that's the outcome of extensive debate, so is entirely within policy." If so, then why are those two pages not listed anywhere else here under the heading, "This is a list of pages that are permanently protected or semi-protected, in line with the protection policy." Are there a lot of other permanently protected pages out there of this kind? Ron Duvall (talk) 20:17, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Taking pages off list[edit]

Looking at some of the red links, it looks like some of these protected pages have been deleted. Is it okay to remove them from the lists they are on? Liz Read! Talk! 17:10, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
