Trademarks[edit]

per Manual of Style (trademarks):

Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules even if the trademark owner encourages special treatment:
  • avoid: REALTOR®
  • instead, use: Realtor
  • but, don't invent new formats: MCI is standard, not "Mci".

Discussion?[edit]

Where is this guideline discussed? I can't find any broad discussion anywhere. No one seems to dislike this guide; shouldn't we just add it somewhere and have it in place as an offical MoS guide? Unless we do that, not much discussion will follow, I'm afraid. Shinobu 16:20, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to participate as well, as the Japan-related articles usually use them at all times (see Talk:Zard#Survey. -- ReyBrujo 22:41, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It should be discussed and edited here until it's in a state that all contributors are happy with, and then brought up at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy) for broader discussion. -Quiddity 02:22, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. So is there anyone who is not happy with the current version? If so, what are the problems? Let's get this baby moving. Shinobu 15:07, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm bringing it up at the village pump. Alea iacta est ;-) Shinobu 18:41, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pointless as a separate guideline. It contains three minor points that might usefully be added to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (capital letters); two points that completely duplicate existing guidelines. Merge into (CL), cross-referenced from (emphasis). Alai 22:00, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Only point four and five (partly) are already part of existing guidelines. Merging the new stuff in CL is okay with me, as long as it's kept, preferrably as a seperate section.

You say that this is "pointless as a separate guideline", but there are good arguments for keeping this guideline seperate. Please have a look at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (emphasis)#Merge, where merging this guideline to somewhere else was discussed before. Shinobu 17:30, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I typed up a little note here, when a few minutes later I found this. bleh. - Zero1328 Talk? 10:55, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

While I'm sure the title of this MOS entry is witty, the fact remains that it is about capitalization. For comprehensiveness, it should be merged with Manual of Style (capital letters), to keep all information about capitalization in the same place. >Radiant< 11:09, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. --Quiddity 17:35, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
(Assuming Radiant has also read Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (emphasis)) Okay, to MoS:CAPS it will go then, providing the content of the guideline is kept. By the way, it would be nice to run this by Richard too - common courtesy. Although I might imagine his objections to putting this guide under MoS:CAPS rather than MoS:EMPH would be considerably less, I think I would still want to hear his opinion before a merge is conducted. Shinobu 23:04, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • No objection to that, but who is Richard? >Radiant< 15:08, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Probably Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk · contribs), the user who created this proposal. --Elonka 17:31, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm pretty sure he's aware since he's the one who has just merged this page. >Radiant< 17:41, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I left a note on his talk page. Since he conducted the merge, I take it that he wholeheartedly agrees. I'm glad everything is official now, and that everyone is happy with the result. No more ALL CAPS (I'm so relieved). Shinobu 13:37, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
