February Date?[edit]

I think Sunday 14th is probably not the best date... There is an Oxford meetup planned for the 21st, which I guess leaves the 7th or the 28th. As we're happily coinciding with Wikipedia's fifteenth birthday, maybe we should go for the 7th to get as near to the date as possible? Just a suggestion - I'd be ok with any of the Sundays in February. Robevans123 (talk) 22:16, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The regular monthly Sunday meetups are London (2nd, in this case 14 Feb) and Oxford (3rd, in this case 21 Feb). Liverpool/Manchester are sometimes on the 4th Sunday, but in Feb 2016, Liverpool have claimed 27 Feb - a Saturday. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:45, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Looks like the 7th would be best. Can we get hold of one of those natty table top banners from somewhere? Robevans123 (talk) 23:01, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I got mine from Katie Chan via Thryduulf (talk · contribs). You may be able to catch one or the other at London 101 this coming Sunday. --Redrose64 (talk) 23:06, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the WMUK office has one that could be borrowed, see wmuk:Volunteer equipment. That page doesn't have a point of contact noted, but I think the best place to ask is either on the wmuk:Water cooler or by emailing volunteering@wikimedia.org.uk. I'm about to leave them a note about the lack of contact point, and point them at this page too. I and possibly some WMUK staff will be at the London meetup on Sunday, or I should be at the Oxford meetup in a week's time. Thryduulf (talk) 23:22, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'm possibly going to London 101 this weekend. I'll contact WMUK when my plans have firmed up. Robevans123 (talk) 23:28, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Let's go for 7 Feb. —  Cliftonian (talk)  13:45, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I should be able to make it then. Leutha (talk) 14:01, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi everyone, Robevans123 has emailed WMUK about the banner and I'll sort out the arrangements. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 13:17, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Richard. That's great. Robevans123 (talk) 13:21, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Photo?[edit]

Any chance of getting a photo of the pub up? I feel it would be helpful particularly for anyone driving there. Leutha (talk) 14:07, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'll pop by and take a picture on Saturday. —  Cliftonian (talk)  15:56, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There's a photo on geograph - The Millstream, Hitchin. Robevans123 (talk) 22:04, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Well done Rob. Ah well, I'll still go take a picture of it at the weekend, I live just up the road. —  Cliftonian (talk)  22:08, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Good - put it on commons! I'm going to the London meetup on Sunday. I'll see if I can arrange to get someone to deliver a banner. Robevans123 (talk) 22:15, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's been renovated since then, but it still looks more or less the same. The location is fairly unmistakable, it's right next to the bridge. —  Cliftonian (talk)  08:13, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Redrose64. I'll put it on the meetup page soon with some more details about the pub.
@Cliftonian: Can we change the page to confirm the venue (or were you planning to give it a quick once over when you go to take a photo?). If the venue is OK, I'll add some details with the photo. It has a website, free wifi, lots of parking, and a menu that looks good and reasonably priced. It's also a McMullens pub - real, local beer - I'll drink to that. Robevans123 (talk) 09:50, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Robevans123: I think I already changed the page along these lines, maybe check again to see if it looks okay? Yes looks good to me too. —  Cliftonian (talk)  13:47, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, yes. Looks good. Must have missed that on my watchlist, and already had it open. I'll just add a link to the pub's website so people can take a look at the menu/choice of beers etc. I rather like the idea that for a lot of dishes you can go light/regular/kingsize if you hungry or watching calories or pennies.
