The sentence "It began with the collapse of the Western Roman Empire and barbarian invaders formed new kingdoms." is poorly structured; it should be something like "It began with the collapse of the Western Roman Empire and the subsequent formation of new kingdoms by barbarian invaders" or perhaps more concisely "After the collapse of the Western Roman Empire, barbarian invaders formed new kingdoms". -- Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 10:26, 12 September 2013 (UTC) Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 10:26, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I preferred your first option, since that kept the definition of the start of the period. Thanks for tidying up after me!
