Schöningen Spears[edit]

@Igordebraga:, @West.andrew.g: - the peak for Schöningen spears is completely absent when using the WMF tools, and I cannot find the responsible link on Reddit. While the high spike in editing on Jan. 14 indicates abnormally high interest, this anomaly with the WMF tools is confusing to me. Do you have any idea what is going on here? - Stormy clouds (talk) 19:25, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This was posted to Reddit on Jan. 14: [1]. This doesn't have the direct link or nearly the popularity needed to explain the bump alone -- but it just seems too coincidental. So much of Reddit is people cross-posting and pulling from other current sources in an effort to earn karma. Do we know what happens to deleted Reddit posts? • I had noticed that, but dismissed it as it only had 53 upvotee, whereas the TIL posts generally have upwards of 40,000. If I had to guess, there is a deleted TIL post out there. Any clue why the WMF missed the jump completely, purely for curiosity's sake? Stormy clouds (talk) 22:22, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I also have not located the link for the Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home. I still think it has to be Reddit, as it wasn't in the news in Ireland at the time (where the home is located), and a Google Doodle about 800 dead babies seems unlikely. • Went for the last resource: archive.org. That one was tagged NSFW, just like the spears received R1 for supposedly being incorrect. Again: these people complicate things for us. igordebraga 16:18, 16 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
