Postal codes[edit]

Is it possible to standardize the user boxes to conform to the postal codes? Neocapitalist 19:18, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you are speaking of the state postal abbreviations (TX for Texas, NY for New York)? I think there might be too much collision with the language codes to make that work. 1001001 09:02, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah exactly. Only language userboxes are meant to have the structure {{User xx}}. File:Anglo-indian.jpg Deano (Talk) 17:38, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
shrugs Easily solved. Just use {{user US ..}}, then. Nightstallion 18:34, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Textbox directs to Where?[edit]

I've noticed that some of the state userboxes direct to the state page (see {{User Minnesota}}). Others direct to the Category:Wikipedians_in_xxxxx (see {{User Texas}}) Which is preferred? 1001001 07:48, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The visible link in the box should be to the state page, such as This user lives in New Jersey, but there is often an invisible category link whereby using the template automatically adds you to the Wikipedians from New Jersey category (or whatever). The link for this cat will then appear with all other cats at the bottom of the page. File:Anglo-indian.jpg Deano (Talk) 19:39, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I changed the existing state templates to this format 1001001 03:28, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

From vs lives in[edit]

Suggest changing wording of most, if not all, of the templates in this page to read "This user is from.." instead of "This user lives in" to allow for more versatility in usage.

For example, I currently live in Germany, but I'm from Texas - but I can't use the Texas template because it says "This user lives in Texas".

Or are these templates not meant to reference origin, only current location? TKarrde 10:53, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • It strikes me that "from" is too ambiguous. Technically, I'm from Washington, D.C., but I haven't lived there for most of my life. We might want to consider variations on the boxes to clarify place of origin vs. current residence. – Seancdaug 21:41, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Politics[edit]

Why have the politics boxes been moved here? This is just for locations in the U.S., not all things U.S., right? Station Attendant 23:43, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No. It's for all things U.S., the same as every other location page. -Silence 07:13, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I created this box[edit]

{{User NY res}}

What should I do with it? --Blue387 20:01, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not to be mean - but thats basically a dupe of the template already listed. I honestly say delete yours - since one already exists. --ShakataGaNai 20:23, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
{{User New York}}

portability of userbox imgs to other language wikis[edit]

Is it permissable & possible to take the image of an existing userbox in one language's wikipedia (e.g. en) and either link (how?) or rather down- & re-upload it in another language Wikipedia (e.g., de)? Users may want to say they're from some weird planet or elsewhere, and the proper image already exists in en but not in de, fr, etc. - Would save a lot of time! --Carboxen 22:45, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can some one make a box for me[edit]

I live in West Virginia, but I'm not a hillbilly This would be great thank you

Hawaii[edit]

Hi I created this userbox after I realized there wasn't one! I'm not sure what to do with it now (I have posted it on the New Userboxes Page. Tell me what to do, I want to learn :)

This user lives in Hawaii.

Thanks, Leah 03:27, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can add it to the Wikipedia:Userboxes/Location/United States page. Have you put this userbox into a template or do you just have the raw code? Nationalparks 03:32, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Squashed[edit]

Does anyone know why the City boxes look squashed horizontally? If you click on any of them, they re slightly wider and shorter. --Chris Griswold() 11:11, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Garbled text[edit]

There is some garbled/random text at the bottom of the page from the 7th that needs to be replaced with whatever was there originally! Elium2 (talk) 22:36, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Are you talking about all of the "usbk" dead links at the bottom of the page? I noticed that too. I opened up the edit box, but I couldn't figure out how to fix it, since they don't show up in the editor. There's also a couple of these "usbk" dead links at the bottom of a couple of the sub-categories on the page, as well as a couple of "usbkbottom" dead links. It's sure dumb-looking, and definitely needs cleaning up. I just don't know how to do it myself. --Saukkomies talk 14:52, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

San Francisco Bay Metro[edit]

I noticed a lot of SanFran bay metro tags categorized in "Other places" - shouldn't they be in cities, even if it is for a metro area? D O N D E groovily Talk to me 13:29, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So many images gone![edit]

What on earth's happened to them? O_O RedSoxFan274 (talk) 01:26, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lowercased title[edit]

Why is the title displayed as Wikipedia:userboxes/Location/United States and not Wikipedia:Userboxes/Location/United States? Am I seeing this wrong or does this page need to be moved? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eric0928 (talkcontribs) 00:35, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
