What to do

People, we should start discussing some subprojects and a few policies and style guidelines. The two main things, I think, would be people and places, which are more or less standardized. I've noticed many Argentine bios which lack useful categories. Mxcatania already suggested that all people should be tagged with a "People from..." category. Most provincial categories of this kind are unpopulated. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 15:17, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

New User

Guys, check out User:Ellibriano2. In his home page he has tons of pages that he created and we may not be aware of. --Sebastian Kessel Talk 15:07, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Portal

Ive started with the portal, but there are TONS of work so i hope i will be more or less ok in 2-3 days. - Argentino 18:52, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Year articles

Several countries have year articles (1989 in Australia, 1990 in Ireland, etc.). I think we could have the same. There's currently an effort to remove links to solitary years, which don't serve much purpose, and replace them when possible by "year in topic" links (for example, 2000 in film when speaking about a movie or an actor). See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers). If someone wants to volunteer, we could start by gathering the most important facts, maybe here or in a subpage. I will start (offline) with 2005 and go backwards. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 23:16, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

You mean start with Year in Argentina? or start replacing the year-links with Year in Topic links? I didn't quite get you. For the first, I think it's a good idea to have 2005 in Argentina, perhaps with sections for news, politics, deaths (eventually births), sports results, culture (awards, films), etc, always keeping just the important. Mariano(t/c) 09:16, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
For example, instead of In [[2005]] the Argentine GDP grew 9.8% let's use In [[2005 in Argentina|2005]] the Argentine GDP grew 9.8%. This is what the style manual calls linking in context. BTW I took most of the data from the 2005 article, and a few from Wikinews. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 10:28, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Hello there!

Hola! How are you, Argentina(es)!? Just wanted to say I've been a member of the project for quite a while now, and also I wanted to invite all other project members to some projects I've created Wikipedia:WikiProject Cuba, Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico (my country, soy PUERTORRIQUEŇO, NO AMERICANO, jaja!!) and Wikipedia:WikiProject Uruguay. My main objective is to unite all Latino writers by raising their interest into learning about other Hispanic countries, just like I love to learn about Argentina.

I love your country, and I originated many articles about Argentina so far, namely Jorge Porcel, Alberto Olmedo, "Chiquititas" and most of the articles about actors there, Telefe, Hugo Corro, Santos Laciar, Jorge Castro, Guillermo Francella, Susana Gimenez, Aerolineas Argentinas, Ezeiza International Airport, etc.

Anyways I hope to hear from you guys soon! I hope you visit the other projects, enjoy them and decide to join. Thanks and God bless you!

Sincerely yours, Antonio SalsaTangoMartin

Hi Antonio! I'm glad to see you cleaning up some Argentine articles. Thanks a lot, and good wiking. Mariano(t/c) 11:44, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Gualeyguauchu Papelerias

Say che, is there an article detailing the current and controversial protests against the Gualeyguauchu papelerias in north Argentina and south Uruguay? I think the issue is worth an article.

Thanks for any info and Dios bless you! Sincerely yours, Antonio el hombre de Susana Martin (Well, I wish!)

Yes, of course. See paper cellulose plant conflict between Argentina and Uruguay. --OneEuropeanHeart 01:08, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

After reading carfully the cellulose plant conflict between Argentina and Uruguay I've noticed that it has a clearly Uruguay point of view and is outdated. I changed few things but it still outdated.Gnudiego 15:47, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Trade unions

Hi. I created Category:Argentinian trade unions today - as part of WikiProject Organized Labour. Two of the articles in the cat are just stubs, but that was all the info I had! Cheers. --Bookandcoffee 06:55, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

I moved the category to Category:Argentine trade unions, "Argentine" is far more used than "Argentinian". Thanks. --ShiningEyes 22:06, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

I just created the article, I m not sure in what more categories could fix Jor70 12:27, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

I categorised it under the Category:Argentine military aircraft, no problem =) --OneEuropeanHeart 23:09, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

World Cup photo

I am looking for a free image to use on FIFA World Cup, which is on FAC at the moment. Looking at the image copyright tags, I see that {{PD-AR-Photo}} states that photographies first registered in Argentina over 25 years ago are public domain, which would make Argentinian photos of the 1978 World Cup public domain. Does anyone know where I could find one? Oldelpaso 10:38, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

User WikiProject Argentina template

Moved to Template talk:User WikiProject Argentina. --OneEuropeanHeart 02:26, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

just to let you know about the new article, don't know if there are any other articles that could link to it Jor70 22:26, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi Jor! Two good candidates for pointing to your article are of course Argentine Air Force and Falklands War. You'll just have to find the right place to add it (and phrase). BTW, we have a notice boards for new Argentine-related articles. Take care! Mariano(t/c) 05:47, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Hey im back, because i see this is really working. The number of members's boomed so i have to come back, i thick i cause more trobles than I help, if i do, tell me i'll leave Argentino 23:18, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello. I'm a member of the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing articles using these criteria, and we are are asking for your help. As you are most aware of the issues surrounding your focus area, we are wondering if you could provide us with a list of the articles that fall within the scope of your WikiProject, and that are either featured, A-class, B-class, or Good articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Do you have any recommendations? If you do, please post your suggestions at the listing of all active Places WikiProjects, and if you have any questions, ask me in the Work Via WikiProjects talk page or directly in my talk page. Thanks a lot! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 06:50, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Well, what we actually would like to know both: high-quality articles, regardless of importance (for the WikiProject table) and articles that aren't in good shape but should are of high importance (for possible addition to the Core Topics list). Knowing which articles are in good shape helps us identify which articles to release; knowing which ones could be better helps us identify articles that are critical to improve, for addition to projects like the Article improvement drive or the Collaboration of the week. So, if possible to compile list of both, it would be much appreciated. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 03:59, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

I haveno problem, but anyone can think this: If the wikipedia (the free encyclopedia) is going to be on CD or DVD, it will be sold. If it will be sold you are going to earn money, if you are going to earn money, i want to earn too, so pay me. -Argentino 23:07, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Interesting reasoning, but it also costs money to able to print the encyclopedia. Any suggestions as to how to do it cheaply are welcome, as are suggestions as to which articles are either key articles or articles of high quality. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 06:40, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
Also, you may want to look at what's going around WP:HIRE. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 06:44, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Big number of articles

We have loads of articles, more and more everyday. I left Wiki a couple of months and now find a frightening number of articles, and i am sure you feel there are a lot, too. I propose, why dont we create a list of Articles about Argentina, concentrate with one list, and not with dozens of categories, and, say, put an asterisk near the articles to correct/expand in order to simplify work?
I was thinking (i spent a lot of time doign that), why dont we try to make of the Argentina article a featured article? I understand german, and in the german wiki, "we" are a featured article so i'll make a list of "thing to add". Is it OK with you? -Argentino 23:07, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

It could be a good idea, if done properly. A work place should be created to work on the article before it's ready, and it should not be moved until we agree on sending it. The other problem is that the Argentina article need not be a very extensive one, but a reference to then see specific topics you are interested on, say its geography. In that case, it would be better to focus in the second leven Argentine articles (history, geography, politics, culture, etc) What do you think? Mariano(t/c) 06:13, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

I think it is an exelent idea so we focus in the 2nd lvl and let the Arg. article evolve normaly, if none oposes Argentino (Talk cont.) 14:14, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

I have been reading all the articles about countries that are featured articles, Argentina is almost better than Belgium!! Well, maybe Belgium should be de-featured because it is tagged for cleanup. Anyway what they have and we have not, is:

  • India: Public Holidays
  • Australia & German WP: Flora and Fauna
  • Nepal: More illustrations
  • Hong Kong: Architecture and Subsection in Geography for Climate
  • Pakistan: Climate, Flora and Fauna, Public Holidays
  • China: The article is considerably longer (not so important)

Portal:Argentina

I've posted at Portal talk:Argentina a suggestion that we try and get the portal up and running. Please reply there.-gadfium 04:13, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm out of here

To avoid having yet another motto infringed upon me, I quit. For me, this (or any other) motto is as useless as a motorbike ashtray. Hope that, if it rains over you, the rain is a very thin one and remember that he who leaves without being expelled comes back without being asked.

User:Ejrrjs says What? 20:25, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

You are leaving because of a motto? Come on, no need to take it personally. Take care, Mariano(t/c) 06:12, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

New design

Congratilations to everybody! Argentina has become a Good Article!! If you have any idea on how to improove the article further, I urge you to edit it. -- Argentino 21:36, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Good article, tap tap, good, goooood article... :o) Mariano(t/c) 08:16, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
And the list keeps increasing! =) I added a section within the WikiProject about this. See it if you want to feel proud! =) --OneEuropeanHeart 04:20, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
I know, it's only a list, but I like it. --Argentino 17:43, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! =) --OneEuropeanHeart 06:59, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
