DATES
Dear colleagues, I've just audited the dates in the article on the People's Republic of China. International format was used, which I've retained. However, most China-related articles use the US format.
I wonder whether you want to discuss whether a WikiProject-wide format is appropriate, and if so, which one it should be. Date formats are now an important issue, because date autoformatting has been deprecated at MONSUM since August, a major change in practice.

Image needs replacement - Shapotou District
Hello all...
An image used in the article, specifically Image:Desert.jpg, has a little bit of a licensing issue. The image was uploaded back when the rules around image uploading were less restrictive. It is presumed that the uploader was willing to license the picture under the GFDL license but was not clear in that regard. As such, the image, while not at risk of deletion, is likely not clearly licensed to allow for free use in any future use of this article. If anyone has an image that can replace this, or can go take one and upload it, it would be best.

Comments to Age Controversy of Chinese Gymnists
Last week the FIG released their final ruling that the Chinese gymnists Jiang Yuyuan, He Kexin, and Yang Yilin were of proper age to compete in the Olympics. Now, at the respective articles (and at age falsification in gymnastics) there is some debate on whether or not the information in the controversy sections should be altered or deleted.
Often times these subjects become proxies for anti-Chinese and pro-Chinese advocates to flame each other, but I am hoping that with some honest and objective looks from WikiProject China editors we can reach a consensus on how to deal with the situation. Would like to bring up the issue of BLP. The article doesn't seem to respect BLP. The controversy has been settled per ruling by the highest governing body on the matter, and per Lance Armstrong precedence the article should reflect such. Also some appearant Tenuous Editing in the age falsification article to remove specific mentioning of the fact these gymnast are now exonorated occured, contrary to BLP. - Bobby, first of all, you haven't even specified which article you're talking about. For those of you reading along, please see the discussion at Talk:Age requirements in gymnastics for further background. In the edits to which Bobby is referring, no facts were ever removed, and it is still clearly stated that the gymnasts were found to be eligible.
- On a side note, which I apologize in advance for bringing up here, but it's really getting to me... Bobby, to link to the rules on Biographies of Living Persons, please type WP:BLP, not BLP. - How can you possibly construe that as an example of removal of facts? I was rewriting the intro to the article to prepare it for a move, and the important parts of that intro I moved into the appropriate section. As for the sentence "there have been many verified, and other suspected, while some are exhonorated of, cases of age falsification among top-level gymnasts from various countries since the early 1980s": yeah, I removed that sentence, but not in order to remove facts—I removed that sentence because it was meaningless. Saying that that "some people have been verified, some suspected, and others exonerated" is about the same thing as saying "sometimes people are found innocent of crimes and sometimes people are found guilty"—it is entirely uninformative, and does nothing more than state the obvious. It was a poorly written and useless sentence, and my removal of it hasn't removed any significant facts from the article.
- Please let this issue drop before we are forced to bring it to the attention of administrators.

- Ok, now you're just being a liar. The second link you gave ("Gymnasts Exhonorated of Underage Accusation" section removed) is showing two revisions that are 5 steps apart; apparently you're trying to make it look as if I made bigger changes than I actually did. —Politizer( talk • contribs ) 21:14, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- Regarding the third link you just added, Bobby Fletcher: the reason that link was removed was partly because it was inserted poorly. You should not use external links (ie, single brackets) to link to another Wikipedia article. More importantly, though, if you had actually looked at the edit I had made instead of just automatically assuming I was ruining Wikipedia, you would notice that I changed the seealso to link to a better article on the topic. The article now linked to by seealso, Concerns and controversies over the 2008 Summer Olympics#Allegation of underage gymnasts), actually has more information on the gymnasts' exoneration than the article originally linked to did. So in the future, please take a moment to understand what you're looking at before you rush off to accuse me of being POV. —Politizer( talk • contribs ) 00:05, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- Furthermore, on that third link, Bobby was misusing links to get his point across. He couldn't get "exonerate" in the title of the article, so he put it in as a "see also" despite the fact that it didn't link to that part of the article and it linked to the very same article of the other "see also" in there. It was a blatant misuse of Wikipedia. Politizer could have correctly just deleted the whole thing, but instead took a conciliatory position and linked it to something that Bobby would have prefered if he had spent the time to find it himself.LedRush (talk) 14:54, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey,
I started a new article on the Tiantongyuan apartment complex/community in Northern Beijing, if anyone reading lives there or knows a lot about it and has access to good material on it, feel free to add to the article! Lots of new articles
I completed the transition of the List of administrative divisions of Gansu. All counties , districts, etc. are completed for that province (written by me, translated from French Wiki), and I'm aiming to move on to another province. Based on a search of Wikipedia's articles related to China, I've found some articles that I believe are about places in China, and could usefully have geographical coordinates added.
The articles in question are listed in Category:China articles missing geocoordinate data. At the time of writing, some examples included:
...and there are many more, as well. At the time of posting this notice, there were 362 articles in this category needing geographical coordinates.
Why add coordinates?
By adding coordinates, a Wikipedia reader can easily view the location on a street map, nautical chart, topographic map, by satellite photo, realtime weather map, and in many other ways. Coordinate data makes an article eventually appear in various services such as Google Maps' Wikipedia overlay, Google Earth, and Wikipedia's own internal map service. Coordinate data also helps readers looking for geographically-based data, such as locations near a reference point, or related information.
How can I do it?
The articles are all marked with {{coord missing}} tags, which need to be replaced with {{coord}} tags that contain the location's latitude/longitude coordinates; or you might be able to add coordinates to an existing infobox. You can find out how to do this at the Wikipedia:Geocoding how-to for WikiProject members. Categoristion of people by family roots
There have been some editors actively categorising biographies, particularly of [HK] celebrities, according to their 'family roots'. My contention is that people whose parents originated from somewhere on the mainland but who were themselves born and brought up in [Hong Kong] should not be so categorised. Hi there, much concern has been raised that the article Sinicization of Tibet has serious NPOV problems. I have made an attempt at neutralising the article. However, the article is being jealously guarded by User:YakLee. I would like to ask interested editors to comment.

- Above user is has had talk with a lot of contributors yet that have tried to convince him not to use his POV in the article and on the talk page. He added a mayor one-hand piece with no references in the article and he places {fact}-templates, where text has been referenced by respected sources. Next to that he doesn't recoil - here above - to even make personal attacks on my address. I am NOT jealously guarding the article: the contrary is true: see the facts for your self. Re-write of Constitution of the People's Republic of China
I've started a re-write of this page at User:PalaceGuard008/Constitution of the People's Republic of China. As part of that project. I've created Constitutional history of the People's Republic of China. As yet unsourced, but I don't believe any of the statements should be too controversial. I will, of course, reference all contestable statement before the end. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Basically, I will follow roughly the scheme I used on Constitution of Australia, which itself is adapted from the scheme used on Constitution of the United States of America. I will endeavour to incorporate all relevant information currently in the article, but strive for a more comprehensive coverage of the subject, especially with a systematic overview of the actual Constitution itself. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 22:58, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Possible copyvio at China Labour Bulletin
I'm concerned about the provenance of the text at the China Labour Bulletin article, because the way it was formatted in a previous revision (before I cleaned it up) looks exactly like a cut-and-paste job. I have done some googling and can't find any other site with the same text, but I would still like to have some others look into this as well.

Assessment of Xinjiang Medical University
Xinjiang Medical University has been assessed as a B class article. Reviewing the criteria, I don't see how it would merit a B. At best it would be a C. Shifu, as in "master", is at Sifu, not Shifu. This I can understand, given the popularity of Hong Kong martial arts cinema in the west. However, the other related articles, Sibak, Sidai, Sigung, Sihing, and Sisok are all at non-Mandarin pronunciations. It seems that the original contributor to these articles was a martial-arts enthusiast. Speaking from a general (i.e. non-martial-arts-specific) perspective, I have two comments. One, should these words have dedicated articles? What more can you say about "sihing" than "one's brother disciple"? Two, if an article should exist, I believe it should be under the mandarin name, since all of these are Chinese language terms common across dialects and little known in English, and the lingua franca is more accessible to the largest number of people. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 04:00, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

- I think most of them should be moved to wiktionary, and entered in both Cantonese and Mandarin versions. (English wiktionary takes non-English words). Sifu should stay at the Cantonese version, since that is English usage. The other words shouldn't even exist as articles.
- A set of redirects can be created from their terms to Chinese martial arts school, with the terms listed in both Cantonese and Mandarin (because of the prevalence of Cantonese words used in Chinese martial arts schools in the West) and Japanese (because it is also prevalent); where appropriate.

It is proposed that the {{zh-p}} macro, be fixed to apply the correct {{lang|zh-Latn}} code to Pinyin text (such as Zhōnghuá Rénmín Gònghéguó), to mark this text as being non-English and to allow better font and CSS selection. One editor initially raised a concern, but has now withdrawn that objection. If there are instances where the current default Wikipedia Cascading Style Sheets code could be improved, it would be useful to complete that aswell. A Song of Destiny
A new article has appeared, A Song of Destiny, apparently a repost of one deleted via AfD (see here and here). The author claims it concerns "one of the most famous fantasy novels in contemporary China". Now, I can't verify this, but I lack the language skills to check for possible sources written with Chinese characters and so on.
