  1. Support and would be happy to help. However there is a fine line between improving Wikipedia's coverage of subjects related to homelessness, and advocacy for the homeless, which while laudable, has no place on Wikipedia. We must take care not to cross over into the latter. Joefromrandb (talk) 17:55, 18 February 2011 (UTC
Of course you mean that we are bound to follow w:NPOV. However, there is no reason not to create NPO article on [homeless advocacy] and there is no reason to lose sleep over the fact that people engaged in homeless advocacy might utilize raw NPOV historical and sociological information for purposes of advocacy. Similarly, people who are not NPOV but frankly regard homeless people as nothing but unredeemable nuisances might also use information from wikipedia including a Homelessness Project. A final point is that I think it would be kosher to have a Task Force which wishes to establish body of NPOV articles on a defined area of interest such as Homeless Rights or Homeless Discrimination, or, for that matter, biographies of notable persons such as Mitch Snyder. Wikipedia is not a bureacracy and people are free to have a personal POV and to pick and choose what they will work on and there is always an implicit preference in terms of what they focus on. The Martin Luther King article is longer than the James Earl Ray article; the Rosa Parks article is longer than the Bull Connor article. There is a huge, snowballing body of non-NPOV material which is fueled by people who are antagonistic towards the homeless or houseless - just putting up NPOV articles on the various subtopics will at list shift the public discourse from dueling NPOV with psychopathologically driven hate speech into at least a calmer more rational dialogue. And Reason in all her majesty might be more favorable to one side or the other but, as the chips fall where they may, NPOV will assert itself as a light at the end of the tunnel on a voyage of discovery which will open everyone's eyes, most emphatically that of myself and of "advocates" on both sides of the issues. RfC - WikiProject/Homelessness Proposal[edit]

Hello,

I am wondering if interested editors would like to establish a WikiProject on homelessness.

  1. Enough time has passed since this last proposal.
  2. The topic is certainly valid and notable (it's a level 4 vital article in Society), relates to a variety of fields (social work, sociology, psychology, health).
  3. I have recently created Template:Homelessness, linking at least 70 articles on general homelessness topics, e.g. by country, type, etc. And there are others linked on separate templates and lists (e.g. List of homelessness organizations, List of street newspapers).

I'm not entirely familiar with the process of creating a project, I'm guessing we would need at least 5 other editors to join the project and help index and tag pages.

@I.am.a.qwerty: You don't need a WP:RFC for this. Just follow the instructions at WP:COUNCIL/P except that in the "Creating a proposal" box, you would enter Homelessness (2nd nomination) (after "/Proposals/") and click "create page" so that the new proposal is created at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Homelessness (2nd nomination), and so you would add [[/Homelessness (2nd nomination)|Homelessness (2nd nomination)]] under the "Current proposals" section here. More information at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide#Creating a WikiProject. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:42, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
