Where to Easily Monitor Multiple News Sources[edit]

Seemed like it'd be a good idea to mention that both Digg and Slashdot are good places for watching out for Wikipedia related stories. Should we add them to the list? Audacitor 09:52, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, absolutely. Andre (talk) 17:06, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Completed! Sorry it took so long, I got confused with my watchlist. --Audacitor 01:24, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Improving Link Readability[edit]

Wouldn't it be better to change the links from URLs to actual names/descriptions of/about the sources they link too? Audacitor 09:56, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Andre (talk) 17:06, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Completed! --Audacitor 01:24, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

work with existing efforts?[edit]

You folks should probably contact the Foundation communications committee and Sandy Ordenez, the Foundation communications manager, if you want to help out with contacting the press etc. Thanks! -- phoebe/(talk) 03:10, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Query[edit]

Where exactly are we supposed to talk to these reporters?--- Pheonix15 21:05, 19 August 2007 (UTC0)

Hey Pheonix! Welcome to the project! Basically, we just monitor various news services for stuff about Wikipedia (and there's been a lot of it recently related to WikiScanner). When we find an article about Wikipedia, we read and make sure it's accurate about us. For example, if the article says Wikipedia millions of edits everyday, we contact the article and tell the reporter that we only wish we had the manpower for millions of edits everyday, but right now, it's more along the lines of thousands. If you look on the project page under the section "Talking to Reporters", there's guidelines on how you should go about it. -Audacitor 03:06, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks--- Pheonix15 19:50, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Started work![edit]

I've started work now. I keep an eye on Wikipedia in the news and other things but havn't responded to any article yet--Pheonix (talk) 17:41, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can I Join?[edit]

I noticed that there weren't many members in the WikiProject and was wondering if I needed certain qualifications to join? --Lando5 (sign/talk) 23:53, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to join. This is merely a volunteer effort. Andre (talk) 23:41, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikinews?[edit]

I'm unsure if this project is really appropriate for Wikipedia. Perhaps you should take a look at Wikinews. -Pumpmeup 21:55, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you misunderstand the goals of the project. We don't report news, we merely respond to it. Andre (talk) 23:41, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live![edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.
