Hip hop genres[edit]

The article on hip hop genre(Hip hop music and some others) are terrible. Someone do something to actually represent the state hip hop is in.

2010 in hip hop music[edit]

The 2010 in hip hop music either needs to be deleted, redirected to 2010 in American music or MAJORLY MAYORLY expanded.STAT-Verse 02:33, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GA reassessment of African American culture[edit]

I have conducted a reassessment of the above article following its listing at Wikipedia:Good articles/Cleanup listing#Articles with 4 cleanup categories assigned. You are being notified as this project's banner is on the article talk page. I have found some concerns which you can see at Talk:African American culture/GA1. I have placed the article on hold whilst these are fixed. Thanks. –– Jezhotwells (talk) 13:13, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request for comment on the article Kid Rock[edit]

There has been some edit-warring going on, and despite repeated postings of the guidelines and sources, there has been no consensus on the article's talk page. Could someone comment on this issue? (Sugar Bear (talk) 20:46, 30 March 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Article assessments[edit]

Just reminding all members that you can place articles you've been working on in the project's assessment section to be given a rating. WikiGuy86 (talk) 03:38, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would also like to ask any member(s) with decent assessment skills to let me know here on the project's talk page because I'm fairly new to the reviewing process myself and I'm sure a few others might fare better than me on some articles. It would be much appreciated. WikiGuy86 (talk) 06:29, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons[edit]

The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

Your Project's list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Hip hop/Unreferenced BLPs. As of May 17 you have approximately 50 articles to be referenced. The list of all other WikiProject UBLPs can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons/WikiProjects.

Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 17:21, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully there's someone within this project that can uphold Wikipedia's standards by rewriting this article in a serious tone?

Some excerpts:

"The song begins with a sound effect of a human urinating" (.. in footnote: Some scholars debate that the sound effect could also be the pouring of the substance in the title of the song (gin and juice). Musicologists agree that either context effectively communicates the nature of the song and its meaning.)

- and..

"It is unknown what type of doctor Dre is. Some scholars believe it is a Doctorate of Philosophy, or PhD, in Player Hating Studies, as referenced in songs in the same musical genre."

- Scholars? Musicologists?? ya ok, I'd LOVE to see the refs.. then there's this very informative paragraph..

"Mr. Dogg leaves the party with his beverage to the middle of the street, presumably because his house party has grown beyond the bounds of his yard. He meets a young lady named Sadie who had previously dated one of his associates. He flirts with the young lady, but does not expect physical contact because the weather has remained a sultry 80 degrees Fahrenheit. As she initiates physical contact with his testicles, the heat becomes too much. Snoop tells Sadie to get off of his scrotum and informs her she will not get further contact with that part of him"

Ya ok, and it goes on like that.. suffice to say it's all very amusing, but there's already websites out there linking to this and making Wikipedia look quite foolish. I intend to delete it very soon unless someone wants to rewrite it? -- œ 09:24, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Could I request that somebody here do a review and cleanup on List of breakdance moves? It's been subject to a very high degree of IP vandalism of late, including one person who changed the template from Category:Breakdance to Category:Breakdick, and the category from Category:Breakdance moves to Category:FannyRask!ZZZves, a full month ago without anyone noticing until now. I've protected the page from IP edits for the time being, but the list does need a major cleanup (and some actual references if possible). Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 18:23, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hip hop articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release[edit]

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Hip hop articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Unreferenced BLPs - the final surge[edit]

Since early in 2010, many editors have assisted in the referencing or removal of over 90% of the Unreferenced Biographies of Living People, bringing the total down from over 50,000 to the current 4,862 (as of 16:22, 1 June 2011 (UTC)). Thank you for all of the work you've done to date, but we are now asking for your help in finishing this task. There are two main projects which are devoted to removing UBLPs from en.Wikipedia:

All you have to do is pick your articles and then add suitable references from reliable sources and remove the {{BLP unsourced}} template. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Hip hop/Popular pages.

a different view[edit]

Its a good arguement, very uderstandable but personally I belive that lil wayne claimed to be Christian in the beginning of his career because it is easier to get into the music industry that way. I know alot of bands that claimed they were Christian, then turned around and sang about trash. I believe lil wayne might have done this, it is extremely disrespectful to us Christians. It is also very un-honorable on his part because he isnt keeping his claim and word. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.220.212.29 (talk) 05:36, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe the x factor deafens you :) lol, Misha's music genre is hard to pin down :) MB is an artist who does not want to be boxed into Genres, but expressly/actively determined to mix genres and experiment with styles. Below is a non-exhaustive list of sources that refer to Bryan's genre. The Genres in normal brackets are simple ones I have not so far used on the info box.
hip hop[1][2][3][4][5][6] probably more correctly British hip hop, rap[7] [8][9][10] and Grime.[11] [9][12]
(:but also R&B,[13][14] [15] soul[16][17][18] [19][20][9][21][22][23][24] reggae fusion inc (drum and base)(dancehall) etc,[25][26]Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page). and(pop)[27][28] (dance),[29][30] (rock),[31][32] (indie)[33] (funk) [34] ...Zoebuggie☺whispers 16:23, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If she does such a range of styles I have to wonder how relevant she is to this project.--Michig (talk) 16:27, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I guess that is for your project to decide :), even though she is not exclusively in your genre, she is increasingly one of the more notable/well known UK Hip Hop, Grime and Rap performers...Zoebuggie☺whispers 16:41, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I got rid of all the unnecessary space and a bit of unnecessary waffle from my previous comment and made one alteration regarding Hip Hop as she probably better described as in the British Hip Hop sub genre, hope that is OK.
I forgot to say If a project team has any free wiki time could they Assess the Misha B article it would be fab. Misha B UK solo vocalist like many artists cross overs many genres, including British Hip Hop, Rap, Hip Hop Soul, Grime but also Contemporary R&B, Soul. Reggae Fusion and others inc. Pop. See her SB.TV F64, Home Run, her rap breaks and urban stamp in her various song covers like Respect and Rolling in the Deep....Zoebuggie☺whispers 17:08, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

HELP HIP HOP COMMUNITY!!![edit]

Hey guys, can you all please help with Jonathan Hay (publicist) page as he is a major hip-hop publicist, producer, and indie record label owner (with distirbution through Death Row / E1 Music) and he has worked with just about EVERYONE in major hip-hop and with the hip-hop press. The problem is, someone without ANY knowledge of hip-hop put up a AFD on the page, and it is not being judged by his "peers", but people without any real knowledge of the subject. The article has been trimmed way down by other people, but this guy has worked with Big Pun, Twista, Nappy Roots, Young Buck, Devin The Dude, 8Ball and MJG, Amil, Jay-Z, Roc Raida, MC Breed, The Game, Ice Cube, Ice-T and many more. So much information was removed, but please need help! Causeandedit (talk) 17:06, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article was deleted on 2 September 2012, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Honorable cnote. The creator moved it back to the main space on 6 September. The content is now in the above mentioned User:Cakeupboy1/Honorable C note. The subject of this article is better known as Da Honorable CNOTE, Da Honorable C.N.O.T.E. or Honorable C.N.O.T.E., but I still think notability is really thin. What do you think about it? Thanks for any opinion. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 08:36, 27 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just wanted to swing by so some people could get some eyes on the Rza's article. It sort of looks like someone wrote a college paper on him and feels like the block quotes are there to artificially extend the length of the article. My knowledge of the subject isn't all that vast, so if someone with some interest could check it out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Livewireo (talk) 19:32, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kokane[edit]

Kokane's wiki article lacks all mention of the contributions he made to g-funk originators Above the Law's albums: from Black Mafia Life (1993) "Game Wreck-Oniz-Iz Game" (with Eazy-E) and "G-Rupies Best Friend"; 6 songs on Uncle Sam's Curse (1994) including a dope verse on the hit "Kalifornia". There may be more, as they are both from Pomona, CA. Also, somebody forgot to mention brilliant young Tupac featured on "Call It What You Want" on 1993 Black Mafia Life. People want to know these thingsSusanlvs (talk) 04:25, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OG[edit]

Some Tupac-related articles (Still Ballin' (Tupac Shakur song), 2Pac Live, Makaveli & Dillinger Don't Go 2 Sleep) refer to some raps as "OGs". I'm sure this doesn't refer to Ice-T's album and the only plausible meaning I can think of is "original". I'm going to replace "OG" with "original". Please tell me and/or correct these articles if you know better. Tim Ivorson 2013-02-10

It normally refers to "Original Gangster", but in these cases it refers to "Original Recording". -- œ 08:04, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hip Hop Females - Including Females in Each of the Comprehensive Hip Hop Articles[edit]

All of the articles that are comprehensive in nature (i.e. not on one specific artist), such as "Hip Hop", "Hip Hop Music", the article detailing the history of hip hop, and any articles on underground hip hop, alternative hip hop, etc. - need to include adequate representation of females, and not just as a small list at the end of the article, but rather through-out these articles for each subtopic in which female rappers were/are present in that subtopic. Not just as a separate article that's more comprehensive in nature about females in hip hop, but in all comprehensive articles. I've commented extensively on the talk page for "Hip Hop". Please see those comments about female hip hop artists.

ANY helpful comments on this talk page or the "Hip Hop" talk page in regards to females would be appreciated - such as names of female hip hop artists/groups from the 70s-today - underground, alternative, or mainstream; what city or country they were from; any research links on females in hip hop that you know of - NAMES ALONE BY DECADE would be helpful! Decade as in when they started their recording career or when they started performing in public (since some underground artists may not even have any recorded work or recordings may be difficult to find for them). I'm not worried at this point about how "relevant" they were as this goes on the talk page, and it can be determined later which ones are "appropriate" for inclusion. For some of the articles, discussion of some smaller underground acts in specific cities may be relevant in regards to culture and history as the underground is part of that, and I commented on the talk page of "Hip Hop" (which should actually be titled "Hip Hop Culture") about why the cultural representations of underground hip hop is equally important to the cultural impacts of mainstream hip hop.

I know there's a list of female rappers, but it doesn't list them by decade (it's alphabetical) or if they're mainstream or alternative. There's another list on underground hip hop artists, but it also doesn't say if any are female and it doesn't list them by decade (since the article on underground hip hop is sadly lacking in very much content in regards to early history, I imagine many of the alternative rappers listed are current).

Thanks for any help I can get with this! Sylvia Blossom (talk) 14:25, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Popular pages tool update[edit]

As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:09, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WP:VG comments subpages cleanup[edit]

Hi, there is currently a discussion taking place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games#VG comments subpages regarding whether it would be acceptable to permanently shift all comments subpages associated with WP:VG articles into talk. This shift would follow the recommended approach given at WP:DCS. The WikiProject Hip Hop articles that would be affected by this action are these:

If you have objections related specifically to WikiProject Hip Hop's use of these subpages, please make this clear at the discussion so that other unrelated talk pages can be cleaned up where appropriate. Thank you. -Thibbs (talk) 15:56, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live![edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

The Ice Cube article is all over the place[edit]

This article is all over the place.

Full disclosure is that I am not trolling. I am annoyed by this articles shortcomings, especially considering a blockbuster film about him was just released. If you go on, just take my words with you when you look at that article. I posted this here because it seemed like the best place to post.

Factually, I see no glaring problems, but then again, I don't know that much about Ice Cube. The real problem with this article is the structure. Facts and figures are repeated, placed in the wrong sub-sections, and the tables are labeled wrong.

Overall, it was a dilapidated piece of shit.

I know you editors and whatnot are dealing with all kinds of issues with running this place right now, what with governments and businesses spamming the editing capabilities of your articles, and the political issues you are constantly running into.

But this is Ice Cube, and a 6th grader could write a more coherent article than this. He is a celebrity, and a wiki article on that is not that complicated.

The worst part of all of this is that it was edited 6 hours before I viewed it.

Pathetic.

I'm a big fan of Wikipedia, but I don't edit it, because I don't want to ruin it for others by making a mistake that will spoil an article. In this situation, there were enough people who made these mistakes on the article (I'm guessing, unless the last editor was an idiot) that it completely fucked it up for me.

Bottom line here is, Wikipedia needs to get it's shit together to stop preventing so many amateurs from ruining the fluff pieces that Wikipedia should be able to nail. Also, somebody who is competent needs to take a look at the Ice Cube article.

The problem of course is that WP is written by 6th graders. And grannies. And rocket scientists. And bored welfare sponges. And professional writers. You never know who's going to edit any one article. The more pop-culture-oriented a subject is, the more it attracts edits from children and idiots.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  23:02, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear hip hop enthusiasts: This page about a rapper has plenty of references, but I am not familiar with this genre. Are these reliable sources? The page will soon be deleted as a stale draft unless someone takes an interest in it.—Anne Delong (talk) 00:51, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Anne Delong: "Harjeet Singh aka prince" isn't a valid article title, and doesn't agree with the text anyway. It should end up at Harjeet Singh. It's not been deleted yet, as of mid-Oct. Some of the sources look bloggy, but many are reliable news outlets including the BBC. The number of national-level awards establishes notability, as does national news coverage of social and legal controversies involving him. Seems neutrally worded enough. Needs copyediting for weird spacing, lack of obvious wikilinks, and an empty table, but otherwise is good enough for WP:STUBhood, I would think. PS: I'm also not a regular hip hop editor; I'm just approaching this as I would an article on a fungus or a rocket or anything else.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  22:56, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, SMcCandlish. I was aware of the incorrect title, but I thought it was a waste of time to move it unless it was accepted. The reason that it is fairly neutral and hasn't been deleted is because I was pretty sure he was notable, so I did some fairly heavy editing myself to rewrite promotional text. I was hoping someone who edits these types of pages regularly would be able to pick out any fansites and forums that should be removed as references. I have accepted the draft.—Anne Delong (talk) 23:43, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Updates for Jarret Myer[edit]

Hello! I posted a message on the Jarret Myer Talk page late last month suggesting a few updates to the article to improve accuracy, sourcing, and neutrality. Myer was the founder of hip hop label Rawkus Records, so I thought editors here might be interested in taking a look.

I prepared the edits on behalf of Myer and Uproxx, the company Myer founded, so I prefer not to make edits myself. I'm hoping someone here can review and make the changes if they seem reasonable. Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 16:18, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all, Red Bull BC One World Finals Italy 2015 could use some extra eyes. One user in particular, AdemirCedillos1, who has also gone by Ademiricedillos, has created a number of articles related to these breakdancing competitions. Another such is International B-Boy Championships, Red Bull BC One, and so on. Most of these articles are supported by primary sources, discussion forums, and things of that nature. I'm rather swamped right now and I can't do a whole lot to figure out whether these articles are notable or not, so I was hoping to get some help from the kind members of WikiProject Hip Hop. There are a lot of competition trees and other detail that seems excessive. I've also floated this by WikiProject Dance. I'm getting a really strong promotional vibe, cynic that I am. Two other articles, Undisputed World Bboy Series and 2014 Undisputed World Bboy Series were deleted as a result of AfDs. (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Undisputed World Bboy Series, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2014 Undisputed World Bboy Series) Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:27, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Two problematic, deletion-target articles, from which something may be salvageable[edit]

Representation of black women in hip hop and Whiteness in hip hop were both obviously created as student assignments (one is explicitly tagged as such), and both were written as polemics advancing a pre-determined PoV thesis then defended with WP:CHERRYPICKING and WP:SYNTH (and just plain ranting). I think both, especially the first one, have enough WP:RS material that something can be salvaged from them, but they need a lot of work. I believe both would be deleted if taken to AfD in their present state, despite the cleanup work I've done on them (which is all I'm willing to do; I have many other fish to fry, and this outside my normal editing sphere). On the talk page of each, I've IDed what some of the problems are and how (IMO) the articles can be salvaged.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  22:48, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question on which name to use for article title[edit]

Okay, here's the question: I'm creating an article on Natalie Sims a.k.a Natalie Lauren f.k.a. Suzy Rock. Natalie Sims is her birth name, Natalie Lauren her current stage name. Normally, I'd just title the article Natalie Lauren, since that's the current stage name she's credited under on recordings, and probably the most prevalent in sources. However, as Natalie Sims, she has some very impressive song-writing credits, such as Iggy Azalea's The New Classic and Chris Brown's Royalty. My question is, which name is more notable? The most common name in sources is Natalie Lauren or Suzy Rock, but the most high profile name is Natalie Sims, since that's credited on songs such as "Work" and "Change Your Life".--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 21:44, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Frenchie (rapper) IP edits[edit]

I'd like to have some attention from Project Members, as well as Admins, for a recent issue that's been affecting the article "Frenchie (rapper)". Between 2013 and 2015, it was simply a redirect to 1017 Records. On 18 January 2016, I began to dedicate an entire article to itself. For some peculiar reason, starting in April there has been an abnormal amounts of IP edits, almost entirely cosmetic and non-constructive in nature. A lot of which, I attempted to fix (with reasoning) but time and time I've been reverted. To the point, where I've stopped editing/reverting, and have bought the issue to admins here: [1] (Archived link: [2]).

With little input from admins (possibly due to disinterest in article subject matter) and recommendation from one admin, I have also started a discussion on the "Talk:Frenchie (rapper)" where I have had no resolution, or cooperation from the involved user(s) just as was the case previously (when I had PM'd them). Instead its currently a log where I'm recording my issues with the various persisting edits w/o engaging in edit warring. I would like to receive cooperation and input from Project Members, and advise you to please check out the Talk Page. At this point, I'm considering if semi-protecting the article would be its best course of action. DA1 (talk) 20:08, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Auto-assessment of article classes[edit]

Following a recent discussion at WP:VPR, there is consensus for an opt-in bot task that automatically assesses the class of articles based on classes listed for other project templates on the same page. In other words, if WikiProject A has evaluated an article to be C-class and WikiProject B hasn't evaluated the article at all, such a bot task would automatically evaluate the article as C-class for WikiProject B.

If you think auto-assessment might benefit this project, consider discussing it with other members here. For more information or to request an auto-assessment run, please visit User:BU RoBOT/autoassess. This is a one-time message to alert projects with over 1,000 unassessed articles to this possibility. ~ RobTalk 22:30, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 Community Wishlist Survey Proposal to Revive Popular Pages[edit]

Greetings WikiProject Hip hop/Archive 4 Members!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.

Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Best regards, SteviethemanDelivered: 18:01, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Popular pages report[edit]

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Hip hop/Archive 4/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Hip hop.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Hip hop, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

PROD on this article has been removed. Remaining notice left only for context.

The article DJ Montay has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This producer/songwriter is credited as being the songwriter of a Grammy award-winning song and as such meets WP:NMUSIC and may be notable, but unfortunately none of the sources meet WP:GNG conditions as there is no significant coverage that addresses the topic directly and in detail. The article creator shows here understands what is necessary to show notability. I have looked on the web and can sadly find no extra sources that would help. it would be great if this PROD were removed after sources are added to avoid a long WP:AFD discussion.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Hot 97, XXL and AllHipHop, HNHH allowed as sources or not?[edit]

Are Hot 97, XXL and AllHipHop, HotNewHipHop considered "unreliable" sources – not notable, and therefore cannot be used as sources on articles? This seems to be a point of contention in the discussion here. What are your thoughts? –DA1 (talk) 07:41, 6 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
