Questions[edit]

1[edit]

A scope question: The first tagging operation of February 13, 2010 revealed some lingering scope questions that we want to discuss with each member of the project:

The question is... What do we do about that?

  1. We keep that situation 'as is'.
  2. We ask somebody else to possibly automate all the rest of it.
  3. We reselect some of those categories for automation (which ones?) and do the rest by hand on an article-by-article basis.

As always, each solution has its advantages and inconvenients, both technical and ideological in nature... So, team, what do you think?

Since nobody seems too keen to answer at this point... I'll push my own ideas:
  • I am for solution 3. I would request automation of the Computer-aided design category (but not its subcategories), yielding 97 articles; We would do the rest (mainly Furniture/Cycle) one by one, BUT discarding Automobile/Motorcycle designers altogether (not out of appreciation, but because they seem already well supported by their respective WikiProject). Any other bright suggestion? --AlainR345Techno-Wiki-Geek 08:11, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I already screened the Category:Textile designers, yielding 10-15 articles. --AlainR345Techno-Wiki-Geek 08:11, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I also did the screening of Category:Cycle designers and that yielded about 10 articles for us. --AlainR345Techno-Wiki-Geek 23:00, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I screened Category:Furniture yielding another 25 articles or so. --AlainR345Techno-Wiki-Geek 21:07, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Category:Computer-aided design (no subcategories) has now been tagged, yielding 97 more articles. --AlainR345Techno-Wiki-Geek 03:18, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If there is no other intervention about this scope question in the next few days, I will put its conclusions into the scope of the project. --AlainR345Techno-Wiki-Geek 21:12, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the result of this scope discussion to its permanent location on the main project page. --AlainR345Techno-Wiki-Geek 03:18, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2[edit]

What are the merits of using {{Template:Did_you_know}} to get visibility on the main Wikipedia page? (not urgent)

3[edit]

Should there be a Design navbox? (not urgent)

4[edit]

Should we ask for collaboration on the Design Portal (section Interior design) from the Architecture WikiProject?

  • On the one hand, they already have their Architecture portal and therefore should take care of that whole category;
  • On the other hand, that portal does NOT talk about Interior design (articles about Interior design are not even tagged with their project banner)

So...what do you think people?

I think we should. Personally, I believe that interior design is more closely related to Architecture than Industrial Design, so I think Architecture should certainly have some input here. Ghost650 (talk) 14:44, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So I did ask for that collaboration here in March, with no noticeable reaction so far... --AlainR345Techno-Wiki-Geek 17:02, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
