Articles which need to be geocoded

I've added a new hidden category, Category:Isle of Man articles missing geocoordinate data, which lists articles which need to be geocoded: see WP:GEOCODE for more information on this. Articles can be added to this category using the template {{coord missing|Isle of Man}}. -- The Anome (talk) 09:05, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Isle of Man/Archive 1/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Isle of Man/Archive 1/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 00:44, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

1,000 articles

After a bit of a tagging crusade, WikiProject Isle of Man now has over 1,000 articles tagged: there are still plenty of Manx articles out there without the tag, but I think we're getting towards a stage where this project can manage Manx articles effectively. In carrying out the tagging, it has also identified a number of Isle of Man articles which are recognised: two Featured articles, four Good articles and fifteen "Did you know" articles! A lot of quite key articles look in need of a lot of work, particularly those articles on location within the Isle of Man; but there is also a lot of potential for some really good articles. I'm going to try and bring this project back to life somewhat, and will have a look around for some recruits over the next couple of weeks! Harrias talk 16:29, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

WikiWomen's History Month

Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Isle of Man will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in Isle of Man's history, society and culture. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 21:57, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

New articles Irree Magh and Fo Halloo

Not being from Europe, I've been fascinated by the variety of militant groups supporting linguistic/cultural/national determination even within the most stable countries of Western Europe. While digging into such things, I ran across Fo Halloo, a group that put up some flyers, painted Manx-language graffitti, and allegedly burned some English bungalows back in the 1970s. So I whipped up a quick article on them, and while getting sources for that found passing mention of [[Irree Magh, another group that made a few press statements. Also found vague mention of "Troor", which appears to be Ny Troor Tromode, but the only thing I can find about them anywhere is the Celtic League disavowing them, so not much there.

Thought folks might find these start/stubs interesting, and maybe can dig up more info locally on the Isle of Man, and/or can give a hand translating these into Manx Gaelic for that language's wiki. MatthewVanitas (talk) 16:50, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Okay, found one very basic ref for Ny Troor Tromode (Manx: The Tromode Three}); apparently three fellows who committed some arson and vandalism apparently for the sake of Manx nationalism. Couldn't find much, would appreciate any further additions. MatthewVanitas (talk) 19:12, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Baroness of Douglas at AfD

I have nominated the article Baroness of Douglas for deletion. Editors who wish to contribute to the debate may add their comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Baroness of Douglas. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:08, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

New article Tromode

Greetings, after writing Ny Troor Tromode, I noticed there was no article for the village of Tromode. I did a basic one, and would appreciate any help double-checking the details, and perhaps adding an image. I did find an out-of-copyright etching of a factory in the village on GoogleImages, so worst case I can plug that into the article, but a fresh photo of the village as it is now would be great.

I'd also appreciate it if folks could run the coordinates into GoogleMaps and ensure they're right, as Tromode isn't actually marked on the map, but I was reliably getting a given neighborhood in Braddan, north of Douglas. Thanks! MatthewVanitas (talk) 19:35, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Added logos for Manx political parties

Tracked down logos for [Liberal Vannin Party]] and Manx Labour Party. No joy on finding logos for Manx Communist Party (which still needs an article) or for either iteration of the Manx Nationalist party. Hope folks enjoy. MatthewVanitas (talk) 21:30, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

The Manx Communist Party did have an article, but it was recently deleted: see the deletion page here. Harrias talk 10:33, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Images for Hutchinson Internment camp

Does anyone have any images relating to Hutchinson internment camp in Douglas? I have added a substantial section to Kurt Schwitters' page on his time in the camp and it is crying out for an image. (I also plan to create a page for Hutchinson shortly, when it would also be very handy). Jamesfranklingresham (talk) 23:42, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Categoriese "by country" or "in the United Kingdom"?

Pardon my ignorance. Should categories about Foo in the Isle of Man be categorised in "Foo by country" or just in "Foo in the United Kingdom"? – Fayenatic London 14:23, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

The Isle of Man is not a part of the United Kingdom, and has never been part of it. It is a British Crown dependency. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:14, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Flag of the Isle of Man

There is an ongoing dispute on Commons about the correct centring of the triskelion on the Flag of the Isle of Man. One of the disputants, Fry1989 has globally replaced every instance of the flag on the English Wikipedia with his version, File:Flag of the Isle of Mann.svg, which in his person opinion (which he has refused to provide sources to verify), is correctly centred (a rectangle surrounding the whole triskelion is horizontally and vertically centred on the whole flag).[1] The other disputant, user:SiBr4, has presented several sources to show the other version, File:Flag of the Isle of Man.svg, is correct (a circle surrounding the point where the three legs of the triskelion join is placed at the centre of the flag).

The dispute is playing out at Commons:Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#SiBr4 and File:Flag of the Isle of Man.svg. There is serious need for input from knowledgeable people. Thryduulf (talk) 08:46, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

Several sources? They have 1, which is not an official source but rather conjecture. I am maintaining Wikipedia asit has been for many years under the princple of BRD as there has been no proper consensus to change the image. You are deliberately describing this issue in bad faith rather than it's true situation. Fry1989 eh? 16:39, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
Fry, please keep the discussion in one place - i.e. on Commons. This is not the place to make your arguments again, this is a call for input from people who are not already involved. Thryduulf (talk) 16:38, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

I've started a new section at the talk page of the image in question where anyone may comment on the issue of which of the two versions of the flag should be kept. The AN/UP thread should be restricted to discussing user behavior only. SiBr4 (talk) 19:36, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Just nipped in to report another little piece on Manx society. MatthewVanitas (talk) 02:56, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.
