Request for neutral opinion

Hi, I and my fellow editors are facing a deadlock on a issue of removing/toning down few lines on 'Allegations of Human Rights violation against the Indian Army' under 'criticism of the operation' section in Operation Blue Star article, concerns include WP:NPOV, WP:SOAP & WP:V, the summary of dispute can be found at [1]. I would request all interested editors to kindly go through the article and please let us know your views/opinion at the talk page of the article so that npov, balance and undue weight concerns may be looked into and a consensual solution may be found. Thanks LegalEagle (talk) 06:04, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Indian Distinguished Service Medal

I have just created an article on the Indian Distinguished Service Medal. It is currently only a stub as I don't have much sources. If anyone can help, that would be great. Also, does anyone know what decoration was below the IDSM? Cheers. — AustralianRupert (talk) 01:05, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

I have also found Indian Order of Merit and Indian honours system, both of which were not tagged for this project. I have now tagged them. If anyone feels keen, these articles also need a bit of work. I've tried to help where I can, but neither of them are within my realm of expertise. Cheers. — AustralianRupert (talk) 02:32, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Changes to popular pages lists

There are a few important changes to the popular pages system. A quick summary:

  • The "importance" ranking (for projects that use it) will be included in the lists along with assessment.
  • The default list size has been lowered to 500 entries (from 1000)
  • I've set up a project on the Toolserver for the popular pages - tools:~alexz/pop/.
    • This includes a page to view the results for projects, including the in-progress results from the current month. Currently this can only show the results from a single project in one month. Features to see multiple projects or multiple months may be added later.
    • This includes a new interface for making requests to add a new project to the list.
    • There is also a form to request a change to the configuration for a project. Currently the configurable options are the size of the on-wiki list and the project subpage used for the list.
  • The on-wiki list should be generated and posted in a more timely and consistent manner than before.
  • The data is now retained indefinitely.
  • The script used to generate the pages has changed. The output should be the same. Please report any apparent inconsistencies (see below).
  • Bugs and feature requests should be reported using the Toolserver's bug tracker for "alexz's tools" - [2]

Does this formation trace its lineage from I Corps (British India)? If so, I'd like to merge the older corps' page into the newer formation. Can anyone give me an answer? Cheers Buckshot06(prof) 05:46, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

The British Indian formation had what would become Indian and Pakistani regiments included, so both India and Pakistan could claim their I Corps to be descended from I Corps (British India). That being the case it may be better not to merge.--Jim Sweeney (talk) 11:05, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
That may not be strictly correct. A number of Corps HQ during partition would have been divided between the nations. How this was exactly done in the case of the Army formations, I do not know! But some corps still exist in India today which continued from British times such as 33 Corps, 4 Corps and 15 Corps. So if Pakistan has a 4 Corps which it claims to have descended from erstwhile British 4 Corps that would not be correct as those formations which were India's share after partition continued to exist in that form generally speaking. Exact knowledge is required to decide where to merge this in the case of I Corps. So I second Jim's suggestion. AshLin (talk) 14:38, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Indian Army during World War II

Hi I have been working on the Indian Army during World War II, but I am having a problem with the Indian Army during World War II#Women's Auxiliary Corps section, all I can find about them is -

The Women's Auxiliary Corps was formed in May 1942, recruits had to be a minimum age of 18 years and their duties were clerical or domestic. In December 1942, the minimum age was reduced to 17 years and 11,500 women had enlisted by the end of the war.

As you will agree not much so if anyone could add some detail or point me in the right direction I would be grateful. --Jim Sweeney (talk) 11:39, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

As a member of the Military history WikiProject or World War I task force, you may be interested in competing in the Henry Allingham International Contest! The contest aims to improve article quality and member participation within the World War I task force. It will also be a step in preparing for Operation Great War Centennial, the project's commemorative effort for the World War I centenary.

If you would like to participate, please sign up by 11 November 2009, 00:00, when the first round is scheduled to begin! You can sign up here, read up on the rules here, and discuss the contest here! Abraham, B.S. (talk) 13:31, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Task force merger

Per this discussion, the Indian military history and Pakistani military history task forces have now been merged to create this, the South Asian military history task force. The scope of the new task force has also been widened; please see the Scope section on the main task force page for details.

Membership lists have been transferred and the various categories and templates within the task force have been updated to reflect the merger. Where possible, redirects have been left in place, so members should experience no disruption to any transcluded elements they maintain on their user pages (such as the announcements and user boxes). However, category pages have changed, so task force members may wish update their watchlists accordingly.

I've changed the image in the task force userbox and the article talk-page banner to a generic South Asian map. This is a placeholder; if task force members wish to suggest (or design) something more suitable, that would be very welcome! All the best, EyeSerenetalk 08:53, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:56, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Pageview stats

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Military history/Indian military history task force to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Indian military history task force/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the toolserver tool. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! Mr.Z-man 03:32, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Updated to do list

Hi everyone, I've tried to update the task force's To do list, however, I need a bit of help from someone with specific knowledge of Wikipedia's coverage of South Asian military history topics. If anyone has any articles that they'd like to request be created, cleaned up or expanded, please feel free to add the to the list linked above. Cheers. — AustralianRupert (talk) 14:20, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
