Trinity test GA Sweeps Review: On Hold

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria. I have left this message at this task forces's talk page so that any interested members can assist in helping the article keep its GA status. I'm specifically going over all of the "World History-Americas" articles. I have reviewed Trinity test and believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days for them to be fixed. Please consider helping address the several points that I listed on the talk page of the article, which shouldn't take too long to fix. getting the project listed in the WikiProjects TOC

Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Directory/Geographical/North_America -- I see that the NM Project is listed in the USA box, but doesn't have an entry of its own in the list of individual state projects that follows below (notice that it's missing from the TOC). Taos High School

New Mexico mystery rail with trail

Rails with trails includes a map from a reliable source, showing 2 rails with trails in New Mexico. One is the Santa Fe Rail Trail along the Santa Fe Southern Railway, but I cannot identify the other. Based on the relative positions of the dots on that map, the mystery railroad is either somewhere east of Taos, or somewhere west of Albuquerque. Help? Please respond on Talk:Rails with trails. List of National Historic Landmarks in New Mexico

Hey, i and others in wikiproject NRHP are trying to complete out and clean up lists of U.S. National Historic Landmarks, such as List of NHLs in NM. I think/hope this should be an interesting and reasonably high priority for New Mexico wikipedians, to ensure that NHLs in the state are well described. Plague of unsourced population data on New Mexico articles

There's been a plague over the past few days of unsourced and probably inflated 2008 population data being placed on several New Mexico-related articles by several editors (or more likely one editor operating under several names). The WP:USCITY guidelines are to use only US Census data, and for cities the Census bureau is only up to 2006, so the 2008 figures obviously do not come from the Census Bureau. Afflicted articles include New Mexico, Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and possibly others. See more discussion at Talk:New_Mexico#Please_provide_sources_for_2008_population_figures. This may also affect years other than 2008, but activity seems concentrated there. Please be alert for unverified population data, and provide sources if you update this data yourself. Acomita Lake, New Mexico

Is Acomita Lake, New Mexico the same thing as 'Acomita', or is there an 'Acomita, NM'? I am reading Willa Cather's Death Comes for the Archbishop and the place is mentioned in Book Three, Chapter 1. I have added the allusion to the article but perhaps I am mistaken.Zigzig20s (talk) 15:31, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

On Acomita Lake, New Mexico you added "Acoma". Does the book mention "Acomita" or "Acoma"? They are not the same. --Una Smith (talk) 21:51, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't have the book with me now. I think I mentioned the chapters - the page numbers depend on the edition. I would do an online search but I'm not sure it's on Project Gutenberg because of the copyright deadline. If anyone has a copy of the book with them now...Zigzig20s (talk) 21:42, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Jornada del Muerto

Some disambiguation and/or fact checking is needed. Cimarron River and Jornada del Muerto attribute the name "Jornada del Muerto" to two different places. --Una Smith (talk) 21:38, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

The del Muerte part of Cimarron River appears to be bogus (as well as ungrammatical). I have rewritten this portion of the article, giving sources, and moved most of it to Santa Fe Trail where it more properly belongs. Jornada is a generic term meaning a journey or a trail, especially one that can be completed in one day. For example, the Jornada mentioned here is on the Cimarron Cutoff (the Middle Crossing); there is another Jornada on the Upper Crossing. The article Jornada del Muerto is correct as it stands and I did not make any changes there. --Uncia (talk) 04:35, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Not GA-Class articles

The following three articles—List of United States Senators from New Mexico, List of Governors of New Mexico, United States congressional delegations from New Mexico—were listed as GA-Class on this New Mexico WikiProject; however, I could not find any record of them having gone through the GA nomination process. Santa Fe Institute should be tagged as importance=High at best; Albuquerque is an example of a Top-importance article for this project. Meanwhile, Flag of New Mexico, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and University of New Mexico should all be Top-priority. New Mexico articles needing geographic coordinates

118 articles in Category:New Mexico articles missing geocoordinate data do not have geographic coordinates. Coords are useful for making the article appear on Google Maps & many other mapping services; and they allow our users to click through to see the article subject location on a map. There's a short guide to on how to add geocodes to articles ... it really is very easy to do. I hope you'll take some time to ensure that New Mexico is as well represented as it can be on wikipedia by fixing up the listed articles. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:37, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Courthouse Photos

I propose that photos of all New Mexico county courthouses be added to their respective article, and possibly the corresponding county seat article. This would serve to beautify the article and serve as a visual representation of the county. Help is needed adding them to their respective county pages by adding the following to the County Infobox template

The following counties do not have courthouse photos. Contributors may want to cross them off once a photo is taken and uploaded.

Perhaps its time to ask does Los Alamos County have a courthouse? Given its history I would not be surprised that it doesn't have a courthouse....

Um, that list has 23 counties, so no New Mexico counties have a tagged photo of their court house. For some decades until earlier this year, Los Alamos had a county "municipal building" (history there), which included a court room. Beg my pardon, the image on the Santa Fe County page is not the Santa Fe County Courthouse that is the 1st Judicial District Courthouse (which is scheduled to be relocated to a new building) the actual county courthouse is on Johnson Street. One of the challenges of this photo project is that, in the larger counties, the traditional courthouse functions no longer fit in one building. There may be an administrative building, a magistrate court building, a district court building, and maybe more. Which one is the courthouse whose picture we want? Since the intent is "to beautify the article and serve as a visual representation of the county", I think we can pick the prettiest or most historic one, although this is obviously a matter of judgement. The photo at Lincoln County, New Mexico is a historic courthouse but is no longer used for any courthouse functions and in fact is not even in the county seat. At the other extreme, the photo at Mora County, New Mexico is in fact the current courthouse but is appears to be a temporary building. --AllenS (talk) 16:01, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
