  • Poliwag, one of the worst I've seen.
I'm gonna clean up Poliwag a little bit right now. --RealWingus
Well done! Just needs an animé section now. --Celestianpower hab 10:42, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
I hope nobod*/y minds, but I came across the Poliwag page before noticing this one and expanded the animé section myself. If anyone feels there's anything else worth adding that I missed then feel free. Apologies if I caused anyone an inconvenience! --L T Dangerous 13:11, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
No, on the contrary - thank you! We want people who will just go out and do. :) --Celestianpower hab 16:22, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
Thanks! With this in mind, I've greatly expanded the Todd Snap article, as it was only a sentence long beforehand. Would anyone care to check it over to see if I've missed anything out? I don't think Snap appears in more than 3 episodes of the animé, though I could be wrong as I have missed a lot of the later end of seasons 4 and almost all of season 5, and I'm also yet to see very much of Pokémon Chronicles. In my opinion, the article could probably do with some pictures though I'm new to Wikipedia so I'm unsure how to add any! It should only need two or three, with at least one, if not two, of those pictures showing his animé appearances. There's only really room enough for one picture of him in the game section, but that should be enough since it's the same character model. Might I reccomend that the picture of him in the game section be of him in the ZERO-ONE? --L T Dangerous 21:48, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
  • Trapinch has lots of technical that needs to be taken out or prose-ified. --Celestianpower hab | myRFA
Random thoughts on stuff to mention:
It's one of the few Pokémon to change to a completely different type when it evolves (and tossing in comparisons to Magikarp and Feebas might be good, too)
Trapinch and Vibrava are very similar to the larval and adult antlion, down to the wildly different ecological niches and the fact that the older versions are rather rarely seen.
If nobody does this before I'm back, I'll do it. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 10:36, 25 August 2005 (UTC)

List of Articles - A Modest Proposal

Discussion

Well, I'm a sucker for being yelled at. In service of that perverse desire, here's a potential draft of what the Pokémon articles on Wikipedia could end up looking like. There's a lot of proposed merges here, and if I haven't mentioned an article by name, I probably feel it should be merged or transwikied somewhere. I've got a list of proposed merges at User:A Man In Black/Poketasks/Merge, and that list and the list at PAC/Next's talk page are where this list is coming from.

Please don't edit this list; this one is a whole proposal instead of a bunch of random suggestions, and I want people to know who to yell at.

Okay. Yell at me now. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 23:36, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

Well, I agree with the majority of this list except for the Towns and Cities. Unless you can redirect to sections of articles (which is currently impossible), then it is impractical. By looking at some of the wat links here, on some there are almost 50 links and that doesn't include the template pages. I'm currently working on the Fuchsia City article to bring that up to the standard you wanted. --Celestianpower hab 08:13, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
Redirecting to sections of articles is one of those things that is supposed to be supported "any day now." Meaning never, but oh well. Worst-case, people can just use the TOC; it's there for a reason.
I'm still ambivalent about merging places, but I don't think every town and landmark deserves an article. I picked Fuchsia because it's on the cusp; it's a Kanto city, but a relatively unimportant one (compared to, say, Pallet Town or Viridian City). Most of the Johto and Hoenn cities and most of the landmarks need merging somewhere, though. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 08:28, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

If you're curious, I hewed a bit closer to the Simpsons and HP fandoms' model for lists of fancruft, rather than the somewhat more excessive Mario (Chain Chomp anyone?) or cricket fandoms. I don't think we need any lists as excessive as List of recurring characters from the Simpsons, though, but it's a good model for what's list fodder and what's not. (Personally, my test is "Is this character more or less important in Pokémon than Professor Frink is in the Simpsons?") - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 08:43, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

And Fuchsia City is more improtant than Professor Frink and quite an important city, there's the Safari Zone to start with and if you don't want a separate article for that, the information has to go somewhere and I've only done a very brief description so far. I've expanded it quite a lot, what do you think? --Celestianpower hab 09:13, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
Hah! I just dropped you a note on your talk page about that.
As for the Frink test, it fails. A handful of episodes of the anime, just another town in the games. The Frink test isn't the be-all and end-all of what should be merged, though.
Right now, I don't see how it couldn't be two items on List of places in Kanto, one section a three/four-paragraph description of the town and its important points, the other section a separate section for the Safari Zone. Then again, I could've sworn more happened in Fuchsia in the anime, and nobody has weighed in on how important it is in Pokémon Adventures.
Incidentally, I changed the proposed names for the place lists to Lists of places in (whatever), as I do think Mt. Pyre and the Safari Zone and whatnot deserve mention on a list. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 09:22, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

Pokémon:_The_First_Movie_-_Mewtwo_Strikes_Back = definite improvements required. Should we focus in standardising the movie pages (info box, cast, etc)? --Tetsuya-san 07:36, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

Most of these articles need moving. I don't know anything about movie infoboxes or anything, but if you wanted to do that, go for it. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 04:03, 28 August 2005 (UTC)
I'm adding some placeholder infoboxes, but I'd definitely call the movie infoboxes stubs. - Tetsuya-san 13:44, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

ViperSnake151: We should set up a dedicated Battle Frontier section with extensive information about its facilites, and the diffrences in how they work in the show (as the Battle Frontier season is going on right now, we should have information coming in every few weeks sometimes).

I don't know anything about the Battle Frontier in the anime. I can't see how it'd need more than Battle Frontier and List of Battle Frontier Brains at most. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 04:03, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

I've created List of Pokémon characters. When it's done, this will be a list of all of the characters who have made enough of an appearance to merit a full sentence (meaning everyone with lines and some characters without). As of this post, it's not done, but feel free to contribute. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 16:56, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

I went from Bulbasaur to Mew and changed the Pokémon images to transparent Ken Sugimori art. I made some exceptions, where the current image is more appropriate, e.g. Kadabra, Magikarp and Gyarados.

I accept the blame gratefully. As for Grumpig, I dunno about the anime, but I can make a mention of Subpiggy in 200 play. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 20:36, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
Oh, wow, Grumpig is still a stub. It looks like whoever it was assigned to at WP:PAC is a fled user, too. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 20:39, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
No, really? Does catching that qualify as initiation into this project? Anyway, I also suggest merging Missingno, 'm, and ????? into on article, Pokemon Glitches...--Chercher E. 14:24, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

Subsequent to the three AfDs on the subject, this is a place to discuss which attacks need entries in this list. Even if the List of Pokémon attacks gets deleted, these will need elaboration in the individual Pokémon creature articles. Perhaps generic information about type-attacks then individual sub-headers for the following?

  • Anime importance:
    • Vine Whip
    • Thundershock/Thunderbolt
  • Game importance:
    • Ember/Flamethrower - first/most important special attack learnt by most fire pokemon
    • Bubble/Water gun - first/most important special attack learnt by most water pokemon
    • Leech seed/Razor leaf - first/most important special attack learnt by most grass pokemon
    • Tackle
    • Quick attack
    • HMs
      • Fly
      • Surf
      • Cut
      • Strength
      • Flash
      • Whirlpool
      • Waterfall
      • Dive
    • Other out-of-battle moves
      • Teleport
      • Dig
      • Secret Power
      • Sweet Scent
  • Other:
    • Destiny Bond - special attack, special purpose

This is not complete. Feel free to add more above. --Celestianpower hab 08:30, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

I made some corrections and additions. I'm not sure all of these bear mention (e.g. do we really need to explain what Tackle is? Really?) More when I'm not concentrating on something else. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 08:36, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

Well, tackle has more to it than hitting the opponent. Its highly visible and highly noteworthy in my opinion. --Celestianpower hab 08:38, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
...it's a tackle. The Pokémon tackles the opponent (just like Headbutt, or Slash, or Body Slam, or Mega Punch, or...well, you get the idea). I don't think there's any description that wouldn't be better suited to simple: than en:. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 08:41, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

Hey Hey Hey- I made it really big and inlcluded lots of attacks. Is that O.K?Do you think that it is good now?--Young XenoNeon (converse) 14:37, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Gym Leader infobox

{{Gymleaderinfobox}} Well, I went and made us a new Gym Leader infobox template, Template:Gymleaderinfobox, based on the scratch infobox that had been in use at List of Johto Gym Leaders. I'm still tweaking it a bit, but it's more or less complete (and is currently in use at List of Johto Gym Leaders#Whitney.

It's pretty straightforward, except for the speciality/specialityverbose listings. If you just want to specify a type, it uses the PokemonType series of templates to link to the headers in Pokémon types, but if you want to do something more complex (like with the Orange Islands Gym Leaders, who don't specialize by type), you leave speciality blank and replace the "-type Pokémon" in specialityverbose with whatever you'd like to have in that field of the infobox.

So, what do you think? - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 08:00, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

Yikes. The PokemonType templates have category links that don't belong in the Gym Leader articles/listings, and don't even link to the proper place. Time to do some work. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 08:35, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
Looks like the best solution is to get rid of this speciality/specialityverbose complexity and just make speciality a text-entry field. There's no need to do this much work to link to the individual sections of Pokémon types. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 08:40, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
There's a problem with the voice actor too. Also, to make it distinguishable from Pokemon creatures, you should keep it blue in my opinion. How used will this template be exactly? Is it worthwhile? --Celestianpower hablamé 09:24, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
What's the problem with the voice actor field? It's just empty because nobody has filled it in.
As for the color, Wikiprojects usually pick one color for their infoboxes and stick with it. It's hardly a firm rule, but I don't see any reason to deviate from it, especially given that it's rather difficult to confuse a person with a Pokémon. If you don't like the pink, then let's change both Pokeinfobox and Gymleaderinfobox.
Worthwhile? I'd say so, if not emphatically so. There's consistent data common to all of the Gym Leaders, and this gives a uniform way to present that data. If a Gym Leader infobox is too specific, I was pondering ways to adapt this into a Pokémon character infobox, but that might require some hackery to allow flexible fields (which I think I can do with the way Wikitables work, but don't hold me to it). If we're handling characters in individual articles or lists with in-depth listings (e.g. List of Johto Gym Leaders, as opposed to List of Pokémon characters), then I'm not seeing any good reason not to use an infobox, and at least one decent reason to do so. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 13:09, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
The problem with voice actor is only on IE. Now I'm at home (and back to Firefox), it's fine.
The colour is just a minor thing, I'm happy either way really. :) --Celestianpower hablamé 17:15, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
Was the problem taht there doesn't seem to be a field? That's due to the way IE treats empty cells, it simply doesn't render them. Put a   in there to force IE to render it. --Pidgeot (t) (c) (e) 15:46, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
Yes. Is there not a way of getting around this without having to type a space manually? Setting the default to   perhaps? --Celestianpower hablamé 15:50, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
After forgetting to use the Preview button and then eventually getting it right, I've given Juan, on the List of Hoenn Gym Leaders, an infobox. Sigh. --Tetsuya-san 14:19, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
And yet, continuing the spread. Should I or not? --Tetsuya-san 14:22, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
Go for it! :) --Celestianpower háblame 14:28, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
I think combining the spread that was used for Brock and this one would be better, as there wouldn't be a need to put all their pokemon in the actually article, though that would make the articles really long wouldn't they...? Well, I'll try it out with Lt. Surge, if I can find a way too... Zap 19:04, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

ALERT! I've (knowingly) broken a bunch of links

If you have any Pokémon articles using {{Pokeinfobox}} on your watchlist, please go through and make sure you add brackets to all of the preceding and following fields. I've removed the brackets from the template itself, because of problems with links to articles such as Persian (Pokémon) and Raikou (Pokémon). - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 03:58, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

Change of plans. I split the Pokédex numbering info out into subtemplates, which can be removed from entries where they aren't appropriate. (For example, Pokémon that don't appear in Ru/Sa don't have Hoenn numbers, and third-gen Pokémon don't have Johto numbers.)
I'm plowing down the list at Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Pokeinfobox, and as of this edit I'm done with Pidgey and everything above it on that list. Help, say, by starting at the bottom of the list, would be appreciated.
Template:Pokeinfoboxexplained has been updated to reflect the changes to {{Pokeinfobox}}, if someone wants to help out. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 06:49, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
Looks like they're all updated now. All the articles using {{Pokeinfobox}} should be updated to reflect the new infobox. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 09:27, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

Pokerefs

I just went through every Pokémon species article and added the pokerefs template. Now, every Pokémon should have the References at the bottom! I started at Cloyster and went to Deoxys, and then went back to Bulbasaur and went up to Shellder.

I must have added it to around 100 Pokémon.

The last Pokémon to get the pokerefs template was Dewgong.

I started at 12:18pm and finished at 3:50pm.

Pokémon is a featured article...in German

The German Wikipedia article on Pokémon is a featured article, and, from what I can understand, its structure is quite a bit more elegant than the current English-language article. In addition, instead of fair-use images as sample depictions of Pokémon, it uses free protographs of merchandise (an idea we should probably use when possible).

Anyone with a sharper grasp of German want to look at the article and see if there are any other good ideas we can poach? It'd be great to make Pokémon a FA here, too. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 16:03, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

For those of you who can't speak German, here's a rough translation of the current TOC - might give you a basic idea of the article:
1 The game - Short description, origin
1.1 Goal of the game
1.2 Inventor
2 Marketing & Merchandising
2.1 The evolution to market success
2.2 Pokémon as succesful marketing strategy
2.3 Merchandising
2.4 Pokémon games
2.5 Pokémon consoles
2.6 Pokémon in TV and movies
2.7 Pokémon entertainment park
3 Pedagogic culture critisism
3.1 Modern role-playing game
3.2 Parents' ambivalence
3.3 World-wide bans
4 Game content
4.1 Capturing Pokémon
4.2 Pokémon battle
4.3 Pokémon evolution
4.4 Pokémon breeding
4.5 Pokémon trading
4.6 Pokémon types
4.7 Pokémon list
4.8 Legendary Pokémon
5 Literature
6 External links
6.1 Official sites
6.2 Fansites
6.3 Other sites
You might be able to derive a basic opinion from this. --Pidgeot (t) (c) (e) 16:18, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
I'm now restructuring the article to roughly match the article structure in the German version. Tell me what you think when I'm done. A.K.R. 13:00, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
Done. Note that this is prelimnary; I might go in and restructure it again. Feel free to do your own restructuring or provide suggestions on the current one. A.K.R. 14:27, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

This article survived not one, but two AFD votes, with no consensus on both ocassions (I believe). Many of the "facts" presented in the article seem to be assumptions, but there are some which seem to be valid. Also, I have seen (and heard) of a lot of cultural references in Pokémon, both in the Japanese and English version (see [3] for a few missed examples). The article also overly focuses on the English version, ignoring the Japanese version completely. We need someone to seperate the facts from assumptions, and to also highlight the cultural references in the Japanese version. A.K.R. 14:27, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

{{Pokeimage}} is on TFD

{{Pokeimage}}, the template used for Pokémon Co.-owned images that aren't screenshots or box art, is on TFD here. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 17:37, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Should we change the focus? Meowth seems to be a merge job and not necessarily what we want for our focus. It was my bad idea to put it up. I'll let soemeone else pick the next one. --Celestianpower háblame 11:23, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

A new Pokémon Characters Template

Template:Anime_characters

Take into account the name of the template, which doesn't really work. It also really occupies the use of any other Anime_characters usage, if anything. Hence why I feel it needs a renaming. But it's also unstandard to other Wikipedia articles, and may need a redesign, somewhere along the lines of this:

Main Characters in the Pokémon anime

Ash Ketchum  |   Misty  |   Brock  |   Gary Oak  |   May  |   Max  |   Team Rocket  |   Tracey Sketchit

Any thoughts?

  • Remove the Category link (and maybe make it a bit more compact) and it looks like it'd be great. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 05:53, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

I fiddled with it a little bit, including removing the now-unneeded link directly to Meowth, the underscores, and bypassing some redirects. I also closed the box, which got unclosed somehow.

That done, I don't see why this can't go straight into use. Stick this into {{Anime characters}} and I'll list it on TFD to be renamed to {{Pokémon anime characters}}. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 06:48, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Ironically, I was trying to edit/compact it when you happened to be. You're the best~ --Tetsuya-san 11:08, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
I found the positioning of the template on some pages rather awkward once the change was made, so I moved them to the bottom like I've seen in many other articles. If that may cause inconveience to a degree, Gomen-nasai. --Anthony Jake La 11:20, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Yes, I prefer it at the bottom, good job. --Celestianpower háblame 18:13, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
I'm a bit stingy about where to place it in the Team Rocket article, though. Hmm. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 20:46, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Someone took the liberty to rename it already, so I renamed it to be more appropriate a title like A Man In Black suggested. I'm not so sure it was right to do in the first place, but I spent the time routing the older pages to the new template. Also, I think the now-redirects {{Anime characters}} and {{Pokemon Anime characters}} may need to be listed on TfD. Tension time. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 11:46, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

features articles

Why don't you put making pokemon-related featured articles as a goal for this project? CG 19:55, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Umm, I hate to break it to you, but it is :) "Get one of two Pokémon-related articles to featured article status.". --Celestianpower hablamé 20:09, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I'd like to join this.

Dang, what a wonderful way to spend time.. I've been a big pokemon fan for a while, and this seems like a great way to organize things. I've been a wikipedia user too, so I'm familiar with the layout. I've already done little bits in the past here but I'd like to actually join this. I'd love to see the pokemon pages cleaned to functionality. :D I'll give suggestions and questions whenever needed, in fact there's some that I'd like to ask later that were on my mind. Toastypk 01:32, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

If you would like to join, then that's fantastic. Be sure to read WP:PAC/S for style guidelines and add your name to the Participants list WP:PCP if you are so inclined. Whatever, it's great that you express an interest! --Celestianpower hablamé 18:08, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
Wonderful! In fact, I just remembered a question I had. Some pokemon articles have their Dex information, listed by game, but some have it lumped in a summary. Which is the desired format? Toastypk 00:36, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
I believe the current focus is changing the data into a biology. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 01:25, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
Cool, I'll try to merge any dex information I see that's sorted by game. Toastypk 02:02, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
By the way, when you're Wikifying something, by adding Biology, make sure you don't name it, like you did in the Ivysaur article, "Biography". Just something to keep consistent, ya know? --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 13:43, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Yo! I'd love to help too! Anything I can do? Knight of Fire15 1:43 pm, 12 February 2006

Adding to the Pokerefs template?

I was trying to compile a nice biography of Ivysaur based on its Dex information from the games, and I went to one of my favorite pokemon resource sites, http://www.pokemondungeon.com. It has a lot of Dex information and stats. Later I noticed the Pokerefs template, and I didn't see it on there. I did use information from that site, and wanted to credit it, but I wonder if it should go into the pokerefs. Take a look at the site, is it good enough to add on? Toastypk 02:15, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Well, that depends. I don't think there's enough pages that use information from that site, so unless you plan to use it for information in the biologies for other Pokémon, I wouldn't input anything into the template yet. If you'll be using it for a significant number of articles, I guess you can add it. But since you're doing it for Ivysaur right now, I don't think you should. Add it below the template link for now. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 04:03, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Just trying to make it clear for myself...

I was skimming over some discussions and edits and things on the PCP, and I wanted to make sure I understood how the pokemon pages are to be structured.

-Name origin should be merged into the introduction?

-Its biography should be somewhere in the intro and shouldn't have its own section?

This is what I picked up. If I'm wrong or you would like to add more things, please do say.Toastypk 04:45, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Some name origins are already merged into the introduction, but I believe we need to make them part of the intro. And to correct myself up there, I meant to say that the dex information needs to be put under Biology, not Biography like you did in the Ivysaur article. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 06:14, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
Yes. At WP:PAC/S (an approved style guideline from these things), it says that Stuff about the Pokemon's character should go in a "Biology" section and "name origin" (unless important or long) should be merged into the intro. Thanks! --Celestianpower háblame 09:16, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Bulbasaur peer review

I don't know how many people activaly watch this page but I have finally stumped up the courage to make the first step towards featured status on the Bulbasaur article - easily one of our 3 best Pokémon articles. Perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree but who knows. Anyway, see Wikipedia:Peer review/Bulbasaur/archive2 for the Peer review request. Thanks! --Celestianpower háblame 10:30, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

I back the Peer Review request! It's good to get one of our best articles into such a status. Since it has Spoken, and all sorts of the Wikipedia things that make it worth something of an article, I see no problem in getting it reviewed. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 13:13, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Following that Peer review, I have nominated it for FAC. See the candidates page for the nomination. So far, it has gained 3 support votes and no opposition. Looks like we're onto a winner! --Celestianpower háblame 13:32, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

An updated Pokémon-related article cleanup box

As it stands, the current Pokémon cleanup box {{poke-cleanup}} is quite outdated in its appearance, and doesn't follow the appearance similar to the current cleanup boxes as depicted in Wikipedia:Cleanup resources. So, I wish to make a proposition of a change to the box to have it actually fit the articles.

I was thinking, from something like it is right now:

To something like this:

I would think the Pikachu would look out of place anyway, but if there's a way to include it while leaving it great-looking, do tell.

Or, possibly compliance with the PAC/S guidelines in the terms of Pokémon-related articles?

And since we have technically superceded it with the PCP, do you think it would be necessary for further edits to the PAC Style Guidelines to be moved in as a subpage of this project? --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 04:19, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

I like the 2nd one best. As to moving thre guide - I see no need. It has hundreds of links to it and the PAC was where it was born. --Celestianpower háblame 11:18, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Ah, didn't notice that it had become somewhat active again. Silly me. That said, having just edited the 2nd box again, does the link to the WikiProject seem a little off? --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 13:00, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
What had? The PAC isn't active...
No, a link here would be perfectly apt. --Celestianpower háblame 14:14, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Would it be wise to wait for a few more people to have a say before the template is applied to? Also, since the {{PCP}} needed a bit of a standardisation, I've done just that. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 14:42, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
I added a PokéBall image to it, although it does look a bit out of place. Do you think it's better to have no image at all? --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 15:17, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Nonetheless, I've updated the template and linked it to the style and this project. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 01:01, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

WP:PAC/S reform

Since the Bulbasaur FAC is about to pass (hereby promoting Bulbasaur to featured status), I feel a reform of our style guide is in order. The Bulbasaur FAC has shown that to get brilliant Pokémon articles is different to that outlined in the style guide. Here are my suggestions.

Intorduction

The FAC showed us that the names in other languages of the game should be found in the paragraph about its name origin. Also, a good two or three references in the news (CNN ...etc...) are essential very useful too.

Characteristics

I propose renaming this to Biology (with characteristics as a possible option).

In the video games

The stats/type advantages proved to be difficult to explain so that lay readers to understand. Perhaps referring the reader of the style guide to the Bulbasaur article. Also, I would advise recommending a screenshot.

In other properties

I suggest a rename to "in other media" and not having any subheaders. Also, No lists of trading cards.

References

Now, here's the biggest problem. I believe that the Pokerefs template should be turned into an external links template and subst'd. References need to be done individually.

How does that sound? --Celestianpower háblame 19:07, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

News sources aren't your everyday thing. Not for all Pokémon, really. Yeah, Biology, since I've seen it almost everywhere, should be set in stone as the subheader name with Characteristics as one of the writer's options. Base the games off how the stats and such are set in our current FAC, since that'll work. "In other media" works - I always thought the subheaders were a little awkward in the section. References DO need to be done individually, so yeah, I don't have a problem with changing the references template. You may wish to wait for the opinions of the other experienced Pokémon-article editors, but I don't have a problem with your proposition as of yet. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 22:43, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Do all poke-articles have to have news citations? Or just some of the more noticable ones? I mean like it would be useful for Pikachu or someone, but not for someone as obscure or forgotten about like Loudred.
No, they don't have to. It ewas very useful for Bulbasaur but I know it doesn't apply to all Pokemon. However, it does apply to a lot of them :) --Celestianpower háblame 17:27, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Just an Idea...

We could create an article called List of Reoccuring Trainers in the Video Games with an Info Box which I could make. Or maybe a table or maybe a section in an article called List of Trainers under a section of trainers in the anime. Whats your verdict on my idea?--Young XenoNeon (converse) 18:27, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

I don't think Video game trainers are notable enough. If so, they should go in thre article about the nearest town (Fuchsia City for instance). --Celestianpower háblame 18:39, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

In what sense? People like Cooltrainer and Dragon Tamer and Aroma Lady etc. are found in various places. Is there an article about a pokemon trainer?--Young XenoNeon (converse) 20:41, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Oh I get you. Umm, you could create Pokémon trainer (video game) with general information about them and a list. --Celestianpower háblame 21:14, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
On second thoughts, I never realised that we had Pokemon Trainer so I've merged it all there instead. Sorry! --Celestianpower háblame 14:13, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

We could use an article about Steven aswell. Does Steven appear in the anime, because I don't really watch it.--Young XenoNeon (converse) 10:13, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Steven isn't a significant character in the anime, and if he was really so notable in the games, then Maxie and Archie would likely have a page for themselves here too. That's my opinion. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 11:29, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Hows about list of minor characters in the video games?(steven, may, Archie, Maxie, The cutter, Wally etc.)--Young XenoNeon (converse) 13:23, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

There is a List of Pokémon characters and such information should go in there, in my view. --Celestianpower háblame 14:07, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Yikes! Poochyena needs help.

(sorry, hit enter too early) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poochyena This really hit my alarm as a little sloppy. Personally I think we should try to focus on this article in the future, it's not as good as it should be, IMO. Toastypk 19:02, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

I think, though short, it's not actually to bad, especially compared to some of the ones further up the page ;). --Celestianpower háblame 09:06, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

The Cloyster article seems fairly complete; I worked a lot on it a few months ago. What do you all think? Should we list it under "Completed articles", or does it require more information/changes? -WindFish 02:36, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Right, well I reorganised a bit and I think that it should go in the "showcase articles" section of the portal (Portal:Pokemon). The completed articles section is only for completed drives. --Celestianpower háblame 18:11, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
Ah, righteo. WindFish 00:07, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

I've greatly expanded the article on Blaine from how I found it. If anyone knows where I could find articles or outside information on him so I can expand the article even further, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Dr. B 04:49, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Dude! That's fantastic! I was originally thinking of merging all of the gym leaders (by each of their regions) into one page, but you squeezed just about as much information as I could think of out of that page. Nicely done! Toastypk 03:40, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
I could try to do it for the other Kanto Gym leaders (other than Brock and Misty, they've got enough already) if you want.
But what I'd really like to do is find outside sources of information on Blaine, so that I can try and work him at least to where he's worthy of getting a peer review. From there, I hope I can get enough information and feedback to edit it into a featured article worthy page (I've even got the goal listed as a long-term project on my user page).Dr. B 06:07, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
Wow - good job and others like it would be great! --Celestianpower háblame 18:12, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

Now that Bulbasaur has made it's way to become a featured article, I'm wondering if you could help me out with something. I've made it a long-term goal to improve the article on Blaine so that it can become a featured article. I'm putting out a request for help here, hopeing there are people out there who are willing to help me out on this. Articles and sources on the guy are what I'm looking for the most (It's hard to find that kind of stuff for a minor charachter), but any other help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance Dr. B 07:06, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Userbox for our project?

Someone could make a userbox for our members to put on their userpages to show that they are a member of this project. It could then be added onto this page: Wikipedia:Userboxes/WikiProjects.

Maybe I'll do it if I have time, if someone doesn't already do it.

--WindFish 00:31, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Articles for the Wikipedia 1.0 project

Hi, I'm a member of the Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing using these criteria, and we are looking for A-class, B-class, and Good articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Can you recommend any suitable articles? I noticed the list on your project page, are there any others? Please post your suggestions here. Thanks a lot! Gflores Talk 17:40, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes, See WP:PCP/L, which will be a classification of all Pokemon articles into 4 categories. The "good" and "exemplary" categories seem to fit your needs. --Celestianpower háblame 18:48, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Thank you that is exactly we're looking for. It looks like a useful resource. Thanks! Gflores Talk 18:54, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Pokeinfobox

There should be a slash between the two Types not just a space... but we dont want it to show up when there's only one Type... and honestly after a couple attempts I have no idea how to make that work wiothout causing the slash and the space following it to be included in the second Type link. Maybe we should just seperate it into Type 1 and Type 2 lines. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 07:34, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

I seriously want to make Pokemon a featured.

I dunno how much this has been said, but after the Bulbasaur FA nomination failed, I realized that it did because you can only say so much about him before you get too esoteric. So you know what I realized?

The main Pokemon article is the best written pokemon article of them all. Just look at it: Long, consice, a lot to be said without going into super-specific detail, lots of passages about how to play, history, controversy, and much more. I nominated it for Good Articles but someone took it off because it didn't cite its sources.

I honestly say that we need to go there and supply some citiations or something, and touch up the article. That is the best pokemon article of all. Think of the possibilites! Toastypk 04:28, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

All Name Origins merged into introductions!

Me and User:Dionyseus worked together, albiet not knowing, and we have successfully merged all of the name origins into the introductions of the pokemon articles like we decided on. :D Now time to work deeper and more carefully. Toastypk 05:53, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Nice work :D -WindFish 06:19, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Yes, well done! If you hadn't noticed, I have recently been systematically going through all of the Pokemon articles, categorising them into "exemplary", "good", "average", "empty" and "dire". You can find my progress here. :) --Celestianpower háblame 09:41, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Cool, I'll try to do something once I have the time. Toastypk 15:17, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

First sentence

During the Bulbasaur FAC, the first line was changed to read

Bulbasaur is one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon from the Pokémon franchise - a series of video games, anime, manga, trading cards and other media created by Satoshi Tajiri.

Do we think that this would be a good precident to set? --Celestianpower háblame 09:45, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

No. As more Pokemon are released, the number of Pokemon in the franchise will increase. It will be a burden to go through all of the articles and change the number. Then again, the number only changes every 3+ years, so maybe it is feasible - we'd just need a dedicated bunch of people to change the number in every article.
Or... we could make a template that is just a numeral of the number of Pokémon currently in the franchise.. is that possible?
-WindFish 06:29, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
A template would be a fantastic idea. Are you going to implement it or shall I? When I'm doing the list, I'm mainly commenting on the style and content of the page, not the layout because I fix that as I see it. --Celestianpower háblame 09:04, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
Template:PokemonNumber. Example: {{PokemonNumber}}. It's currently only in the Bulbasaur article. -WindFish 09:39, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
Cool, thanks. Could we make then name shorter though - {{pokenum}} perhaps? --Celestianpower háblame 09:48, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
Done. -WindFish 08:00, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Cool, thanks. Did you see I changed the focus? We should have a much better chance with Weedle, I hope. --Celestianpower háblame 08:47, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

How about with that clarifying sentence added - some people have said that we should explain what Pokemon is in the lead. --Celestianpower háblame 10:50, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Intro/Agenda

I am fixing/rewriting the almost 400 individual Pokémon articles 1 by 1. I had hoped to go all the way without breaking up my edit history, but due to certain problems, I have no choice. I am still ignoring all non Pokémon articles, including my talk and watched pages, for the time being.
Celestianpower, thanks for the compliment on Bulbasaur, but it was really Missingno. that most of the work thus far has gone into.
The reason I felt compelled to come here and break the streak is thus: the {{pokerefs}} template is not flexible enough. I need to remove the section headers and break it up into references and links, adding name and number parameters to the links. This will allow more customization of links, and the easy insertion of links and references above or below the templates. Also, editing pages will be less confusing when the headers are not contained in the template.

The question is, should I create 2 new templates ({{pokeref}} and {{pokelinks}}) and just insert them as I go along? Or should I alter {{pokerefs}} and only create {{pokelinks}}? I will get around to fixing all the articles this will break, but it could be a long time. The new templates will be thus:

*Loe, Casey, ed. <i>Pokémon Special Pikachu Edition Official Perfect Guide</i>. Sunnydale, CA: Empire 21 Publishing, 1999. ISBN 130206151.

{{pokelinks|Name|name|###}}:
<!--STOP! Before you edit this, be aware that this is a template, appearing on all of the Pokémon articles. Don't edit in links for a specific Pokémon. If you want to add in references for a specific Pokémon, go back, click the edit this page link for that article, and add the references below the link to this template.-->

This means {{pokerefs}} will have to be replaced in every article with
==References==
{{pokeref(s)}}
==External links==
{{pokelinks|Name|name|###}}-->

So... do you you want me to create 2 new templates and replace the old template as I do each article? Or will somone else volunteer to make the change immediately so I can just edit the existing template? It would have to be by hand, since {{pokelinks}} has parameters. Another, rather convoluted possibility would be to move template:pokerefs to template:pokeref and use a bot to remove the s in all articles, then create the new template at template:pokerefs and let me switch them to the new version 1 by 1.

Let me know what you think A.S.A.P. so I can figure out how to treat Ivysaur. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 15:06, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi! First, I'm really glad that you're planning to investthis much time into it: thanks.
Second, as to your question, what I've been doing (as I did on Bulbasaur, Vulpix and Charmander) is to just subst: the template and then edit it. The only reason we were using that template is so that we could add references and external links without having to spend too much work: we had a lot of articles we had top get decent quickly because they were all being merged/deleted. I'm happy to say that that time is now over and Bulbasaur got within an inch of FA status. I see no problem with substing them as you go along and then adding the things in.
Once again, thanks for taking this task on. You may have a bit of trouble when you get to Weedle for instance: it has no information :). Anyway, good luck and thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 17:43, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Progress report

So far, I’ve been through 2 glitch articles and 9 “real” Pokémon. Most of the work has gone into: synthesizing all known Pokédex entries into one or two prose paragraphs (all Pokédex entries, including Pokémon Stadium, are available in most Pokémon’s Bulbapedia entries and on Serebii.net); standardizing the sections; reducing TCG-cruft; formatting; fixing R/B/Y weights to the more specific weights given in the 3rd gen( though I haven’t adjusted the metric weights, does someone want to do so, if it’s necessary?); and adding better descriptions of shinies.
Most of these articles will probably still need to be further rewritten to be understood by those who haven’t read the main Pokémon article.
Per Celestianpower’s suggestion, I have been “subst”ing {{pokerefs}}, to which I also added some parameters. While this has resulted in minor link breakage, the problem isn't serious, and is being corrected as I go along. This means that future additions will have to be done manually, but allows for greater customization and organization of resources in each article. And, as I understand it, {{pokerefs}} was primarily a stopgap solution to prevent unsourced stubs from being deleted.
I've just reached Caterpie, and decided to do a minor overhaul of WP:PAC/S and the infobox explanation - which I think provides a good opportunity for everyone to agree or object to the way I’ve been doing things( by viewing and responding to the changes I make).
Speaking of which, why were the references to the Guardian article and the computer virus, included on WP:PAC/S, removed from Bulbasaur?
A few points of discussion: Signature attacks. I think we should include signature attacks from the anime and manga. This is a very arbitrary statistic in any case, and I think the attacks from other media are more likely to be recognized by casual readers( laypersons). Locations. I think that we need not include more than basic location data in the video games section, and not specify which Pokémon appear where and how often except in the case of particularly notable or rare Pokémon like Absol. I'm going to try something in Caterpie, and tentatively set it as an example in PAC Style.
2 currently non-existant articles which I think would be immensely useful are Berries_(Pokémon)( so much more can be said than has been in the items article!) and Pokémon breeding. I have early stub drafts of each, but I am not likely to create them until the completion of my current focus.
Let’s discuss all these things here, though, rather than on the Style page’s talk. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 11:05, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

P.S. the “diff version” of any edit I make is a version in which I use &nbsp; and <br> to make the changes line up in the diff as much as possible when you click “last” in the edit history. A “diff version” will always be followed immediately by an edit in which I remove these elements. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 11:16, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

First break

I finished basic edits through Raticate, so I’m a little over 5% done! Taking a short break to work on my other interests, then I’ll dive into Spearow. Since no one bothered to comment on the issues raised in my progress report, I will assume you all approve of the way I've been doing things. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 00:29, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I agree with what you're doing, just make sure "anime" doesn't have an accent. --Celestianpower háblame 13:14, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
OK, I’ll make a note of that. The anime article said it was sometimes spelled that way, so I just left each instance as I found it. Which is what I’m also doing with the italics and quotes in the intro/name explanation, mostly. We'll figure out a uniform format later, I hope. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 14:39, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
Obviously,I'm not back on track yet, but getting there. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:16, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Bulbasaur FAC ... again

Bulbasaur has now been renominated for FA!!!!! Please vote and/or comment here! --Celestianpower háblame 18:40, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

It appears to be a Featured Article now! Wee! -WindFish 09:02, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

I am finally happy with what I've done

Can I suggest a new future focus article for the non-species focus?

If so I feel that the PCP should turn it's attention to one of the gym leader groups, more specifically List of Hoenn Gym Leaders.

I've been focusing lots of work on it alone, adding character boxes, and beginning implementing infoboxes (the horror).

More or less, a few days ago, this was what the Roxanne section looked like - [4]]

Somewhat empty, this is it now: List of Hoenn Gym Leaders#Roxanne

This may be a draft version for what the PCP would like to implement for all gym leaders.

I have an awful feeling all the infoboxes are going to be deleted by someone, so I'll be professional and only say it once..

Please no! : P

Anyway, that's my suggestion for the other one -

SUGGESTION FOR FUTURE FOCUS ARTICLE (Non Species) - List of Hoenn Gym Leaders

SUGGESTION FOR FUTURE FOCUS ARTICLE (Species) - Combusken

- Did a lot of work tidying up Torchic (We need to teach people how to link to the actual pokémon type they're meaning, opposed to just the type page!)

Torchic, the Manga needs work, I have no clue about it, it's the only place left that needs a tremendous amount of work, besides the anime.

I also added a link about the Torchic Star phenomenon, to clear things up there.

I'll keep hovering and tweeking.. *sees Combusken* OH no.. *faints* Highway 19:13, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Well, I fixed up Torchic to WP:PAC/S - well done! As to gyn leaders, the template is The johto leaders page, specifically Whitney. No need for so many subsections and tables. Content looks tremendous though. --Celestianpower háblame 20:46, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
What you did forget though was to fix the infobox, to which I've done. ^_^; --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 21:17, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry. I'm not very quick with infobox changing - I usually leave it to someone else ;)... --Celestianpower háblame 21:21, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

..*grins* Thank you : )

Combusken is pretty much up to scratch, I've compiled what shoddy info was their and completely detailed the contests from the anime, all I can say is - I never want to see my Blaziken's again! : : P

Combusken

It won't need a great deal more work now.

Now that I've finished mainly on Combusken and Torchic, what else needs done? : P

PS - Combusken needs a manga and trading card section, as it has neither. Thanks : ) Highway 00:46, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Are you willing to do the info box then? And just noting that the {{PCP}} template shouldn't really be there, it should be on the talk page. Aaaaand... --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 01:03, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

..*gulps* What exactly does that entail? : P Highway 01:18, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

It entails the new subject I've left below. :P --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 08:35, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

..Right, apologies but I still have no clue..

Do you mean something about copyright? : P Highway 11:29, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

...*Penny drops* right XD Will do so : P

Question, are we cutting out the STATS? Because in the Bulbasaur and others that have been done, there isn't any.

There's a note to add stats to the weedle page, may just be an over sight.

I'll do the box Highway 14:58, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes, we are cutting out numerical stats, see WP:PAC/S. I think the note about Weedle refers to there being no mention of its stats at all. The current standard, as in Bulbasaur, is to bring attention to which stats are high or low, and what that means in practical terms, but not to use numbers. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 15:14, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Pokémon articles graded Are we still doing this? : P Highway 15:19, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Well, since WikiSmaht is going through, it seems redundant currently... --Celestianpower háblame 16:25, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
Well, there’s no reason you can’t reclassify the ones I’ve done. Many still need improvement, though I hope several will be upgraded a bit following my edits. My goal is simply to make them more consistent with each other, and consistently readable, adding info where I can. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 17:07, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Finally did the infobox for Combusken, so the article is just about finished, except for the manga and the trading card game. Boxes are fun : P (or not) Highway 16:20, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Remember though, the subheadings aren't needed. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 01:30, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

{{PCP}} and other template changes?

I was just a little curious about the PCP templates (since I made a little change which was reverted anyway) and how we could actually make it look a little better (for consistency with the other templatesin other Wikiprojects). Also, templates like {{no license}} might need a change - they reference to materials from the video games and the animation, but it's not really the case - we use it for other images, like the Wikiball. If we could make it a little more clearer? --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 01:03, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Breeding

I don’t mean to usurp attention, but, as promised, I’ve created the Pokémon breeding article. Before we turn our attention to List of Hoenn Gym Leaders, I think we should try to turn this new stub on a complex and important subject into a better article with references and everything, whether that be as an article focus, or just as an initiative stemming from this talk page. I don’t see Pokémon breeding as more important than List of Hoenn Gym Leaders, but I do think it’s more urgent, as a new stub with only one contributor is at greater risk for deletion than an old list.
For those wondering about my ’dex project, I hope to do Spearow by Tuesday, Thursday at the latest. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 15:14, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

I added several categories, made a list of all the baby pokémon, touched on Eeevee breeding and slightly on tyrogue breeding.
I also made a list of baby pokémon in the anime
I'm going to make a list of all the Pokémon pages with infoboxes to be changed, unless it's already been done. - Highway 17:24, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
If you want to make a list, go ahead, but I would end up changing them all anyway. It might be more efficient just to fix the ones you come across. Also, use colons (:) to indent your replies on talk pages, and Template:pokesectstub instead of just Template:poke-stub. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 17:53, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
Thank you : ) And sorry : P I'll start going through them and do some now and again : ) Highway 17:58, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Charizard

An anon with no other history keeps changing Charizard’s horns to “crests”. I’ve used up 3 reverts, and I want to get back to the breeding and Spearow articles, so could someone keep an eye on Charizard, please? -- WikidSmaht (talk) 16:02, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

? It wasn’t that bad. Some of it just wasn’t right for the article, and some of it was good, but shouldn’t necessarily be copied word for word from Bulbasaur. Easily fixed. I included an edited version of your Snap comments on Bulbasaur, too.
Actually, this is a perfect time to bring up a question for the project to decide on: In the TCG sections, should the comments on each set, such as “(two cards)” and “(as _____’s Pokémon)” be italicized, or are parentheses alone good enough?
Oh, and, you can swear on Wikipedia where appropriate. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 00:03, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Ah, thanks : P It's just Bulbasaur seems to have extra info in it (for instance explaining what Pokémon types were, which I did add.) Thank you for editting the Snap content for the Bulbasaur category, I do enjoy that game, but I suck at it now : P
I vote for Italicising the "(two cards" and "(as ______'s Pokémon)", the other version makes my head hurt : P
BTW - How is Bulbasaur going as a FAC? I've flicked through the comment page, but I don't really see any progress, I'm hoping it gets it, it really is a great article. Also, can we maybe nominate Portal:Pokémon for Featured Portal? I think it would stand a chance, it's all organised, with no red links and all one colour..
Obviously there's more too it : P But it was late and I was skimming, and those were 2 of the main points I saw, anyway. So, sorry about Charmander, and are there any base articles about the three silhoeuttes, I know there isn't a lot of info, but we do have the names.. Highway 19:17, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
The names are somewhat disputed, if I recall, and in any case, there’s really not enough info for the articles, yet, we don’t even know what they look like! -- WikidSmaht (talk) 19:39, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
I guess : P I've left a article needing serious attention. I think we should perhaps have an order for creating the new articles when DP comes out.. because there's just going to be mispellings and all chaos : P Highway 21:21, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Just whizzed onto this to find the path of the image for the Hoenn Gym Leader article, and was pretty much shocked at how awful it was.

It has a incredibly shabby biology and appearance, and something labelled Extra which is a very poorly wrote sentence, and no manga, trading card game, anime or actually anything well wrote...

It also has an old infobox, which is less of a crucial nature..

This is probably a good suggestion for the next focus, it really needs it..

Makuhita, see for yourselves... Highway 20:29, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Gym Leaders

Right, I will keep calm and cool throughout this, as I am not caring that someone vapourised the infoboxes, because it's fiiiinne : ) *breathes in calmy*

Just as a question, which do you think is a better version of List of Hoenn Gym Leaders#Roxanne -

  1. List of Hoenn Gym Leaders#Roxanne
  2. [5] Look at Roxanne

Obviously the newer gym leader box would need to be changed, but come on, at least a portion of the older version should remain, it did have much more information. User:A Man In Black also did half of the article, then left it in an complete shit heap. I haven't touched it because I don't want to change the boxes or anything, because I'll do it wrong.

I can see his point over deleting the extra information, but surely if we were to expand the articles like the Kanto gym leaders -

For example - Misty

Well frankly I don't care anymore. CelestianPower did say it was very good, and no offence but I do rank Celest over AMINB, I'm not sure why, oh well. I know personally that if you don't want your content cruelly editted you shouldn't post it, but fuck it I'm just mad now.

So there, I'm there for a flaming, personally I'm flaming myself. Alternatively, this could be a stepping stone to branching out the articles, but more likely a flaming... great. Highway 21:56, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Although I wouldn't describe myself as "above" AMIB but I do disagree with him here. I think thatit should be prosified. --Celestianpower háblame 11:48, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Yay, someone doesn't hate me! *is odd* I think they could be expanded out, if we get enough work, I can find all the manga info etc, so we could have full articles. On another note, how is Bulbasaur doing as a FAC Candidate? Highway 16:21, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Badly. Loads of irrational oppose votes. Everyone just hates Pokemoin - simple as. --Celestianpower háblame 11:02, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
I don’t know about that. It’s not so much a matter of them hating Pokémon, as disagreeing on the criteria to feature an article. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:16, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Alvin's Projects

I think I will start creating articles about things we don't have. (Not much) Next will be a list of things that I created that I need a little (read:lot) of help on.

  1. Safari Zone - Need info on it for FR/LG.
  2. Pokémon NetBattle- Anything you can add may be useful.
  3. I will also be adding TCG images to each Pokémon one by one...

Style

I think we should do an adopt an article style on a bigger scale..... Maybe we can have 3 groups and each group would work on 2 articles and each group would have a "leader".

New Pokémon

Tamanta, Perappu and Buizeru all got nominated for deletion someone *coughs* don't ask. It's generaly an attack on them, and if they do we can just store the table somewhere and re-create it when the movie comes out.

And I got a warning for telling someone to shut their trap for being stupid, not about the subject, but in general : ) Highway 19:11, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Please see WP:NPA and WP:CIVIL. --Celestianpower háblame 19:53, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
I know! Thank you but everytime I mention it I get the link, has no one ever seen the warnings? They have links in them! Can we return to discuss the issue I was trying to talk about, not that making me feel like an idiot isn't fun : P Highway 20:41, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
You can create a user sub-page if you're that worried about losing the content. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:16, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Bulba is now a featured? Well done!

I was surprised enough information could be squeezed out of it to merit that title. Though it IS on featured revomal voting right now. Toastypk 21:36, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, some people just don't give up. --Celestianpower háblame 22:46, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
I actually thought you were a little irrational with the comments you left back, but boy was I wrong. To me, I smell determination to get rid of Bulbasaur as a Featured Article Candidate, and as I commented on the page, the nomination of removal clearly is the irrational move in this case. --Anthony Jake La (Tetsuya-san; talk : contribs) 23:17, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
No, you’re right, Celestian was becoming irrational. The FARC thing is just an example of even worse behavior. BTW, Celestian, I’m not Assuming Bad Faith to say it was odd to see so many from Esperanza. I don’t object to them voting, but I DO object to the suggestion that it was a coincidence. And, isn’t Neutrality a member? If so, you were wrong about none of the un-rationalized Supports coming from Esperanzians. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:16, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Oh for Pete's sake, not you as well. Esperanza is a non-issue. Full Stop.
And what do you expect about by rationalnbess when the total of the FACs come to 15 tiomes the size of the article and there are vendettas flying about. Not only this, but Temp Account has made just 4 edits to articles and 80 overall - is this not suspicious and do his opinions really count for much? --Celestianpower háblame 16:28, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Requests

Can someone cite DVDs or episodes with production numbers on the Bulbasaur article, instead of or in addition to the Serebii.net episode guide? I think it is extremely inappropriate for a Featured Article to use a fan site( even a high-quality one like that) as the only source for some of its info. By adding the DVD info, we can cite the episodes themselves as primary sources, and get around that.
Also, does anyone understand IPA?? Maybe you could do the pronunciation for Blastoise? The one I have there looks silly. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 13:16, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

I would, but I'm still trying to figure out what "inline somethings" are : P, it's another word than somethings obviously. I've been busy doing other things Poké related, which hopefully will be revealed today. I think most dictionaries have the explanations, I'll check it if I finish what I'm doing today. Highway 16:32, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Another FAC Candidate! (Sort of...)

I, personally, nominated the Portal:Pokémon as Featured Portal Candidate, since I think our portal's actually quite good, and also because we're on a lucky streak : P. There's also only about 9 Featured ones, so we'll probably slightly more attention (like Pokémon needs it). If you direct your mouses to here, you can support (or thrash, your choice) the cause! I'm going to do a little tidy up of the Portal right now, but any small tweaks of help would be highly appreciated. Highway 16:32, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Thank you Celest! You were an amazing help, and I think that it's soo much better than it was before. I know it still isn't good enough for a FPC, but at least it's made Cel and I to move our butts! : P Highway 21:29, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

User:HighwayCello/Roxanne

Ah, the base template for Hoenn gym leaders is here! Hopefully this is better than my other idea today was.. oh well : P

I've done examples for certain areas, rather than am all, because it's a demo, but comments on exisiting content are welcomed, it's probably best if you comment either here or on the talk page.

Suggestions/Complaints also welcome. Highway 21:55, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Just note that strategic information (like how to beat, the gym leader's technique in the games, etc.) isn't appropriate for a Wikipedia article. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 22:49, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
I maintain that we don't need the headers: the template is already at List of Johto Gym Leaders (see Whitney). I don'yt see how this is necessary... --Celestianpower háblame 22:58, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
... When have you said that? Highway 23:08, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Up the page ;). I mean, it's just my personal opinion but if it were up to me, everything would be prosified into a block of text per Whitney. --Celestianpower háblame 23:29, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Well I remember the prosing, less killing the infobox.. I think it looks better, just my opinion, but can we just focus on the layout! They layout people! : P Highway 23:48, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
From how you make it out, it sounds like you want to either make Roxanne an actual article or slip the information on her under subheadings on the Hoenn gym leader listings. Explain. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 10:01, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Sorry - didn't make myself clear - keep the infobox but ewverything else should be prosified is my opinion. --Celestianpower háblame 18:04, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
I made the wall of crap known as Roxanne as proof that we could make the Hoenn gym leaders full articles, as I have given proof, may we go ahead with it? Highway 21:17, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Augh. This article is exactly why I merged the gym leaders into lists in the first place. The vast majority of this draft is either detailed description of each Pokémon (with most of the descriptions having nothing to do with Roxanne), detailed advice on how to defeat her, or insanely overdetailed description of every work in which she appears. All of these things are inappropriate to Wikipedia, and I've spent a lot of time work removing them from Wikipedia articles.

My suggestion? Go with prose instead of tables, just wikilink Pokémon instead of wasting time and space describing each Pokémon in every article in which a Pokémon is mentioned, and trim the "In the manga" section down to the first paragraph. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:50, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Incidentally, I'm swiping that paragraph about the manga for List of Hoenn Gym Leaders. Hope you don't mind. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:52, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
THIEF! : O BTW - did you know there is ALREADY an article for every gym leader? : P Highway 21:46, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Oh hell, I forgot half of them never got merged.

These articles are, by and large, a mess. I was working on List of Green Lanterns (which was actually turning out to be one of the nicest merge projects I've worked on in a long time), but I see it's time to come back and spend some time working on Pokémon.

I'm going to get started on cleaning up List of Hoenn Gym Leaders and merging all of the Gym Leaders into the list articles. After that, I'm going to get started smerging the heck out of the Team Cipher articles.

Now would be the time to argue why I shouldn't do this. The reasons I should are posted above. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 05:35, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Nearly finished with this cleanup, can I have some pointers of what there's left to do, thanks much Highway 21:17, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

I would be quite close to labelling that article with a cleanup due to how the style guide wasn't exactly followed. Also, what's with the formatting of external links and such? --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 23:55, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
Is it any better now? Cel put it on the "Good Articles section" so it can't be that crap. And the External links? Personally, the template looks like a dogs dinner... Highway 20:55, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Pokemon voice actors

Recently, I created a Category:Pokémon voice actors section, which is a category for any voice actor or actress who had been in the Pokemon anime. Since I don't have time to put the rest of the actors in (I did the major ones already [Veronica Taylor, Rika Matsumoto, Megumi Hayashibara, etc.]), you can add whatever I'm missing. Duo02 *Shout here!** 05:43, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for mostly neglecting this project and some of my merge projects; I've been going through essentially the same debate from List of Johto Gym Leaders, but in other fandoms.

I understand there has been a bit of controversy at List of Hoenn Gym Leaders, and I've offered my opinion on that above, but someone (Celestianpower, was that you?) suggested that we get rid of the Gym Leader infobox. I'm pretty sure I'm the one who made Template:Gymleaderinfobox, and I don't think anyone ever really offered any opinion on whether we should use it or not.

I definitely think we should use it instead of made-by-hand tables, but I'm not convinced that we need an infobox for Gym Leaders.

Does anyone want to make a case for using it or not using it? Anyone have any suggestions (like making empty fields disappear automatically, something I was planning to do anyway) on how to improve it? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 09:15, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

No, that was a mistake. I think the infobox is important but the rest needs to be prosified - extensive tables of Pokemon used and various subheadings is just ugly, in my opinion. --Celestianpower háblame 10:58, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
Oh. Well, we definitely agree on that, then. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 16:16, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
Well there's no need to remove it since it does work. The handmade and coloured tables go against the whole idea of infoboxes as demonstrated on the infobox colour guide, so such tables will need a replacement in the infobox too. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 23:45, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Things needing adressed direly

Right, we've cut through most of the work, but a few things have dropped dead..

  • Current Focus -

This has kinda died... we had Weedle, and it's good, I added to the videogame section, and overhauled the manga, but what else is there left to do? The suggestion section hasn't had a post since January.. which was a while ago.. I think we may need a new focus, if there's lots of work still left to do on Weedle, gladly give us a list. If we're done then prime candidates are:

    • Makuhita- XD is you can really say, frankly the most pathetic Pokémon articles I've seen in my puff, the only reason I've avoided it was because I've been doing work on Combusken and more recently Torchic
    • Slakoth- Ha! You heard me, Ha! That is incredibly sad, no further questions
    • Carvanha-Has about 8.5 full lines if you bulk it all together, I personally like the 3 stubs signs, one for manga, one for TCG and a third for no apparent reason : P
    • Bagon- a How-to-find guide, laughable..
    • Marshtomp 7.5 lines XD gawd "A trainer looses his Marshtomp on the Abandoned Ship, whch evolves into a Swampert" XD
    • Granbull - what a fantastic contentlessa article. --Celestianpower háblame 10:51, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
    • Victreebel - The worst article! Highway Rainbow Sneakers
Nah - that's the bestd on this list so far. --Celestianpower háblame 11:08, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
      • Well first of all, Magikarp Salesman is linked, and then this: "At the same time, James' first Victreebel tried to eat the Magikarp Salesman, so he threw it away as well. The two Victreebel crashed into each other in mid-air, and the 2 Victreebel lived happily ever after (and raised a family of Bellsprout... maybe)." Maybe.. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 11:11, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Other Focus -

Didn't we finish this? Maybe could do with a jolt, or a new category all together:

    • Pokémon breeding- The whole category needs ARTICLES
    • Pokémon Contest (or whatever it is) - Contest needs expanded, pokeblocks, the coordinator article should be merged or wiped
  • Portal -

It's finally got going, would you rather we had a system for changing and archiving, or stick with our usual "whoever sees it does it"? :P

You should know that I'm always available for a full-page Pokemon rewrite. If you want, you could tell me to rewrite a particularly bad page and I'll have it done within a few days max. I'm now working on Slakoth to prove my point. Erik the Appreciator 04:11, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Category

Currently, 'M, Missingno., and Mew glitch have no categorization. The "Glitches" category that some of them were grouped under was deleted. In addition, Glitch City should really be categorized with a glitches section. What cat should be used to group these articles together? - Hbdragon88 20:48, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Screw the category, I went ahead and created Template:Pokémon glitches. And holy ****, some of the articles, ESPECIALLY Bad Egg and Question mark glitch, are in very, very bad shape. I vote that these should be the next set of articles to be expanded and improved. - Hbdragon88 07:26, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
Well, Glitchy City, 'M, and Missingno. should probably just be merged together. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 08:15, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
I disagree. I think all three articles are large enough and are fairly distinctive enough that they shouldn't be merged. - Hbdragon88 21:58, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
Well, there was an AFD with an overwhelming merge consensus, and, well, most of the info is just duplicated, since they're all different effects of essentially the same sort of glitch (reading memory the game really shouldn't be). I just haven't gotten around to it. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 04:30, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Would you mind pointing me to that AFD? Was it that 'M AFD, or is it an entirely different one? - Hbdragon88 22:34, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Probably the M' AFD. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:58, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Mkangaskhanevolution.jpg

Can someone tag Image:Mkangaskhanevolution.jpg? It was deleted and I have no idea how it was tagged. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 01:16, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

The tag that’s been applied uses a link that only refers to images from the pokemon.com website, which this is not. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 02:43, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
Well sorry...I think it's more important to figure out WHO MADE THIS IMAGE. We have to source this image. And I would recommend changing up the image, making it vertical, to avoid the awkward problem of it sticking out. - Hbdragon88 07:00, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
Well, we have some admins here... can they view the deleted history, to see how it was originally sourced and tagged? -- WikidSmaht (talk) 09:09, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Pokémon question

It's far from my area of expertise, and this isn't the place to ask, but it's the only Pokémon place I know that I could ask. Simply: Who is the artist who performs the Pokémon theme song (the English version, "Gotta catch 'em all", which was apparentely on some compilation CD)? Thanks Esteffect 18:05, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Don't count on this, but I'm pretty sure it's Billy Crawford. Hope this helps, Highway 21:45, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Pokémon Portal

For consistency with other Wikiportals, silly-looking headers like "Pokémon of the week" have been changed by me, for more specific headers. Remember, that although we are Pokémon-based as a portal, that doesn't mean we should use such headers that may confuse any other portal readers. Also, the purpose of a Portal is that it is meant to be for readers (people interested in Pokémon, of course) and editors. Of course, if you don't think it was a good idea for me to do that, I'll gladly listen to your opinions. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 10:46, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

I don't like the new layout, I think there should be one image on each side, it looks somewhat lopsided. I personally preferred the old names, it seems kinda dull... if you know what I mean. I know Wikipedia is kinda serious, but the subject we're writing on is somewhat light, I think the Portal should reflect that to an extent. Also, on the FPC section, no one mentioned anything being wrong with them.. oh well, there goes the last drop of fun in wikipedia... Highway 21:37, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
In terms of formality on Wikipedia though, it doesn't work. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 01:40, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Fair use?

The talk page tag uses Bulbasaur, which is copyrighted and used under fair use. I thought that Wikipedia didn't allow this - such images can only be used in articles. - Hbdragon88 22:34, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Truth. We haven't gotten round to getting rid of it yet though. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 03:55, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Pokémon films template

I've added a {{Pokémon films}} template to complement the films, but I feel it might need some better Wikifying. Just makes it easier to navigate the movie pages. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 03:56, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Also, a number of Pokémon species articles (e.g. Jolteon) are showing up in the main Category:Pokémon category, when they should be in the subcategories instead. Thing is, I can't figure out WHY they're appearing in Category:Pokémon. Can anyone help me out? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 02:36, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Similarly, several Pokémon species articles (e.g. Igglybuff) are in the Pokémon species category, when they belong in the subcats instead. (Granted, Mechamew2 and Zapmolcuno belong in Category:Pokémon species, until I figure out what to do with them.) - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 02:44, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Le Portal Photographie

As you may have noticed, we have NO pictures. Someone believes we're breaching copyright, which Cel and I both disagree with but whatever. However I did find this: Portal:London. *puts on tweed jacket and grabs big pointing stick* If you direct your eyes to the Olympic 2012 logo, you will see that this image is categorized under copyright as a logo, and is being used on the portal. Now since Portal:London is a Featured Portal, I'm not seeing the problem with this.

On the other hand we may just forgotten to copy Fair Use Rationale for them being on the portal...*pulls on tweed jacket and goes off to find rainbow converse* Highway Rainbow Sneakers 10:47, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

On further inspection, the logo doesn't have a source or a Fair Use for anything... Highway Rainbow Sneakers 10:48, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Game Mechanics

I joined to help with the RBY/GSC versions of the games. I have worked with the mechanics fairly in depth and I am actually in the process of making a game engine based off of the first two gens of the games. I noticed that articles dealing with the mechanics of the game are either not up to date or aren't including all of the generations of the game. I am new to Wikipedia and not that great with layouts, but with the help of others, the mechanics could be greatly expanded. I have most of the formulae used in the game and they are accurate for the first two generations of the series (I haven't been keeping up to date with the newest versions). -- MathStuf 02:57, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Sounds awesome. Though based on your post, it looks like you did a lot of research on the matter... Somebody out there on wikipedia could call that Original Research, which people can often be anal about and want removed; it's a policy on wikipedia. It's not that I think you're wrong or anything, but there's a chance it could happen. If you can find RBY/GSC physics on a pokemon fansite, by all means use it too! :) Didn't mean to alarm you but crap like that can happen by the wiki elites. Toastypk 03:32, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
I found most of it in about 2 or 3 places (one guide, Serebii.net, and Bulbapedia), so it it able to be cited (if that's what they are concerned about). I think that these are extremely reliable in their information, so I don't think too many will squalk about them. MathStuf 05:20, 16 April 2006 (UTC) (forgot the sig)
You can't cite Bulbapedia. Tried.. failed ¬_¬ Highway Rainbow Sneakers 23:19, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Why, because it's a wiki? If it's a serious wiki, it is self-correcting. MathStuf 05:20, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

Merging "sweeper" into a battle mechanics article

That Physical Sweeper article got deleted. But I thought the information inside could be merged into a battle mechanics page. I know there's a few out there, it would meld nicely when trying to talk about how fights work. But nooo, now it's deleted. >_< I would suggest trying to squeeze a tiny overview of what sweepers are (like just a few sentences or so) in general into something on the site that would fit with it. It's not like it wasn't completely useless, if you know what I mean. Toastypk 03:21, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

PS: ...And for god's sake, if anybody were to have used the word "Pokecruft" again, I would have their arm broken. argh.

Sounds okay. I can get the deleted text if you like. --Celestianpower háblame 10:28, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Before trying to get any more relatively minor Pokémon through FAC, perhaps we should try getting one of the core articles featured, like Pokémon, Ken Sugimori, Pokémon (anime), or Pokémon (video games)? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 14:31, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

I agree, we should work on that list we set out at the founding of the project. Our goalshould be 493 Pokemon creature good articles and a few FAs on core topics, like those you mentioned. Especially Pokemon which is currently pretty crummy. --Celestianpower háblame 14:39, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Oh man, horray, I've been wanting to focus so much for the actual Pokemon article, because it doesn't have to be degraded into fan-specific vocabulary, plus there's a crapload to be said, even more than Bulbasaur was, if anything, Pokemon needs FA more than anything, then we should consider it all well fought for. :) And how is Pokemon crummy as is? It's one of the longest pages on the subject. Toastypk 04:12, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
And crappest. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 07:05, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Well I see plenty of citing, at least in the controversy segment. I actually put that up for Good Articles but some guy took it off for no citing. Well I see a lot of links whenever the article talks about something in regards to controversy in the franchise. Toastypk 20:02, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Lists in game articles

Am I the only one who thinks extensive lists of Pokémon not found in each version are too FAQ-y and don’t belong in the game articles on Wikipedia? I tried to remove the list from the Gold and Silver article but was reverted. It’s fine to mention the numbers of Pokémon that need to be transferred from other sources, but I think the full lists belong in a Wikibooks guide. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 21:49, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Absolutely agreed. I don't know where these lists came from, but I don't think they're at all encyclopedic. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:43, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
Of course. The content is hardly encyclopaedic - and what a better place it would go than WikiBooks. - Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 03:50, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
They came( mostly) from User:TBH. Someone might want to explain on his talk page so he doesn’t take it personally. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 05:34, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Nice summary, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 18:55, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Bulbasaur is a Featured Article, which means it’s a great guide and even template. But can we please avoid turning other articles into near-clones? Not only is it boring for someone browsing to read the same stuff over and over, but it seems to prove one of the complaints from the Bulba FAC, that the article doesn’t cover Bulbasaur, but an interchangeable set of facts for all Pokémon. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 07:36, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
    • I agree, that came up in the Torchic FAC, which is why it's 100% original from Bulbasaur (apparently the anime description has to be tailored ¬_¬) Highway Rainbow Sneakers 18:55, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
      • I glanced over that failed FAC briefly just now... a suggestion: refer to May’s Torchic as “May’s Torchic” or “it” in the anime paragraph to differentiate it from the species. Also, I wrote “Like sheep and fish, the plural of Pokémon is the same as the singular, and the same is true of each species, i.e., ‘One Snorlax, two Snorlax, green Snorlax, blue Snorlax’.” when I rewrote the style guide. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 22:33, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Whoever’s loading the TCG images, great job! But make sure they’re placed and sized well, or they really mess up the layout, especially in high resolutions, and it looks sloppy. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 07:36, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Shrinking the text of References section in Bulbasaur was a great idea.( Incidentally, it’s not working anymore in that article, someone please fix it!) But that’s because the section was huge! Shrinking Ref sections that don’t have as much content is completely unnecessary from both a practical and an aesthetic point of view. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 07:36, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
    • I think I was the one who shrank them. I definitely added it to Torchic but it could have been before or after. It's mainly me that's implementing it, I think it looks better. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 18:55, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
      • Well we should come up with a concensus, then. I think it looks good when the reference section is long, but weak when it isn’t. Do fix it in Bulbasaur, though. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 22:33, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
        • You mean shrink or unshrink? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 22:37, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
          • Shrink it. The tags are/were there last I checked, but no longer working for some reason. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 23:04, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
  • The chapters of the Pokémon Adventures manga have real names in English( at least the VIZ translations published in the USA), not just “VS [whatever]” like in Japanese. I should know, I have all 7 US-published volumes and will soon be getting some of the volumes translated for Singapore. So if I insert a chapter name in an article *cough*Weedle*cough* don’t fucking revert it, please, no matter what the Serebii.net summary based on the Japanese says! -- WikidSmaht (talk) 07:36, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Templates

A user made a whole bunch of separate templates for the gym leaders; i.e. Template:Hoenn Gym Leaders, Template:Johto Gym Leaders, and Template:Kanto Gym Leaders. I think this just screams REDUNDENCY and needs to be fixed. So far I've created Template:Pokémon Gym Leaders, which rolls all three regions' gym leaders into one. I think this should be implemented. I think this needs to be extended to the Elite Four tempaltes, as well. I need help, however, in implementing all of these templates, as well as categorizing the Gym Leaders into appropriate categoreis (seems to be nonexistent). 04:01, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg

Image:Pokébuck sign.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
