Proposed change to {{HD Radio}}

Hi, I'm proposing a change to {{HD Radio}} to bring it in line with MOS:SMALLFONT. As this was contested when it was attempted in 2016, I've made a discussion for it at Template talk:HD Radio#Proposed edit 2 January 2020. Raymie (tc) 18:13, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

Infobox change proposal

For those of you who don't watch that page, drawing your attention to a proposal I've made at Template talk:Infobox radio station#Proposal:_Tweaking_Owner_and_Licensee. Mlaffs (talk) 20:42, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

Should the banner of the Radio WikiProject be replaced by yours or left next to yours in cases like that? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 08:38, 7 May 2020 (UTC)

Yes, it should have been under our, WPRS, banner. So, I took care of it. :) - NeutralhomerTalk • 08:57 on May 7, 2020 (UTC) • #StayAtHome
I'm going to do the rest of these with AWB today or tomorrow. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 14:38, 7 May 2020 (UTC)

US radio station categorisation

There is presently a DRV at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2020 May 12#Category:KROQ that would significantly benefit from input from people familiar with the current consensus regarding categorisation of US radio stations and associated pages. Please leave your comments in the linked discussion. Thryduulf (talk) 09:57, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

RfC on use of "urban" in music and radio articles

Hi, I've opened an RfC relevant to this project at Talk:Urban contemporary#Use of "urban" in music and radio articles about the use of the word "urban" in articles on music and radio topics, given recent actions by actors in the music industry and radio industry. Your comments and feedback is most welcome. Raymie (tc) 04:22, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

RfC - infobox redesign

I'm proposing a redesign containing visual, technical and other improvements to {{Infobox radio station}} and {{Infobox broadcast}}. The discussion is located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Radio Stations/2020 infobox redesign proposal. Raymie (tc) 05:21, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Infobox RfC

I've started an RfC to analyze a potential split (and partial merger) of {{Infobox broadcasting network}}. You can find the RfC, information, and discussion at Template talk:Infobox broadcasting network#Proposed split into new templates. Raymie (tc) 21:38, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Add ACMA info in to the Infobox

I've seen the redesign, nice work BTW! I've noticed that you have fields which I assume will only work for US stations, would it be possible to expand it to Australian radio stations as well, using ACMA (Australia's FCC)?

Example is 2WZD, main license 10007372/1 (though only the broadcast licence number shows 6446), which also has two other licenses attached (repeater/rebroadcast stations). To find a station, you can use the callsign or the on air id on the Register of Radiocommunications Licences. The information is CC-BY-4.0.. Bidgee (talk) 14:37, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Came across a little more information (EFL) when I was searching for 2WG. Bidgee (talk) 15:29, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
@Bidgee: Yes! Seems like you have something I can actually work with, too, unlike some countries. We could likely add a field |acma_id= and a switch for it to link there if |licensing_authority= is appropriately set. I'll also need to figure out having "public licence" display instead of "public license" if that's the way we go. Would the number with slash be the only needed variable? Raymie (tc) 17:17, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Looks like ACMA assigns a few different license numbers. I think what would be wanted in |acma_id= is the Broadcast Service License. In the case of 2WZD, the Broadcast Service License is 6446, which feeds into the search string like this: https://web.acma.gov.au/rrl/licence_search.results_page?pQRY=6446^|^Broadcast+Service+Licence&pSUB_TYPE=BSL+Number^|^Service&pEXACT_IND=matches^|^matches, which then gives you the Broadcast License for its two transmitters: 1159324/1 and 1384834/1. These licenses fit into simpler URLs, https://web.acma.gov.au/rrl/licence_search.licence_lookup?pLICENCE_NO=1159324/1 and https://web.acma.gov.au/rrl/licence_search.licence_lookup?pLICENCE_NO=1384834/1, but they don't connect over to one another like the BSL page does. (They do, however, give a link to the EFL ID for the transmitter, which offers up valuable information about transmitter power and antenna height). I don't see a correlation between the Broadcast Service License number (6446) and the license number in the URL (10007372/1), however. Carter (talk) 18:45, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
@Bidgee and Tcr25: Thank you! The test version at Template:Infobox radio station/sandbox is prepared for Australia and also Brazil, where I can link to licenses reliably with a PDF. The field names will be |acma_bsl= for Australia and |anatel_id= for Brazil. Unlike |facility_id=, these parameters do not display as fields in the infobox. If the presentation in Case 5 of Template:Infobox radio station/testcases (where I have infoboxes set up with the essential parameters) is fine with you, I will roll this out for radio and to {{Infobox television station}} which is where the switch code came from. Raymie (tc) 02:33, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
That's awesome Raymie. It looks good to me. Carter (talk) 13:57, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
@Bidgee and Tcr25: It's live, but the parameter will still show even if the ID number field isn't filled out and I need some help to rectify that. Raymie (tc) 17:34, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks Raymie. Bidgee (talk) 14:20, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
@Raymie: BSL isn't showing on Triple M The Border. Bidgee (talk) 06:11, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
@Bidgee: Gotta set |licensing_authority= first. Unlike FID, these parameters do not display on their own. Raymie (tc) 06:27, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
Oops! Thought I had forgot something. :/ Thanks again Raymie. Bidgee (talk) 06:30, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Article in RadioWorld

Wikipedia Updates Radio Infoboxes August 13, looks pretty good for the project and for radio stations. They recommend that stations update "their" infoboxes, but has a pretty healthy attitude about COI editing. Perhaps a minor stumble or 2, but that's a lot better than most of these type of articles. I'll likely have a paragraph or 2 in The Signpost about it (on August 30). If anybody has a comment or two - a couple of short sentences- please feel free to email me or leave a comment at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Newsroom/Suggestions. Smallbones(smalltalk) 17:17, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

@Smallbones: It was written by our own Tcr25 who participated in the discussion. Raymie (tc) 18:54, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
Yep, that was me. I used to work for Radio World and thought their readers would benefit from knowing about it. I did try to keep the focus on "ask, don't edit," but figured that easy to confirm facts being added to the infobox probably wouldn't trigger a COI problem. Carter (talk) 19:01, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

@Tcr25: All I've got so far is

I'll likely include another sentence if I can think of what the most important part. Any suggestions welcomed. Smallbones(smalltalk) 23:26, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

@Smallbones: As the leader of the RfC, I'd note that this is the largest overhaul in the 15-year histories of {{Infobox radio station}} and {{Infobox television station}} (formerly Infobox broadcast, redesigned in tandem with this one); both templates were converted to use the meta infobox in 2010, but this is a larger change imo. Raymie (tc) 23:40, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
@Smallbones: As a radio anorak, I appreciate the cleaner, more organized look of the new infoboxes, which is one reason I wanted to bring them to Radio World's reader's attention. I also really appreciate the approach Raymie took in trying to harmonize the infoboxes for radio and television stations.Carter (talk) 00:23, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

HD and digital subchannels for U.S. radio

I'm looking for consensus on the usage of the |subchannels= parameter in {{Infobox radio station}}, so I added this discussion on it's talk page. --DrChuck68 (talk) 12:53, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
