3DS XL image

I noticed that the 3DS XL does not have an image of the console, only the logo. I was wondering if the one from Nintendo could be used? As the DSi and DSi XL both have images, that lead to my thought process/post. Wanted to bring it here for someone to do, in case it has been discussed already. Thanks. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 04:48, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Apparently, it just got deleted because it was a non-free image in the Wikimedia Commons. We need to be careful when using Nintendo's images because of copyright; it is much better to use a photograph of a 3DS XL taken by a Wikipedian or something instead. DarkToonLinkHeyaah! 04:54, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
Gotcha. Glad I asked then! - Favre1fan93 (talk) 04:56, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
Someone really needs to do that because that comparison table looks a bit dodgy now... DarkToonLinkHeyaah! 05:30, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
While I'd be happy to snap a picture of my own 3DS XL, I don't have any quality camera... :) · Salvidrim! ·  21:43, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Proposed modification of scope

Although they've been considered part of the scope of the Taskforce, unofficial products are technically not included in the current criteria. Is there any opposition to clarifying that by modifying the criteria slightly? :) · Salvidrim! ·  17:48, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

I don't have any problem with that. DarkToonLinkHeyaah! 10:58, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Me neither. It should help improve a greater number of articles.--Arkhandar (TalkContribs) 20:08, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi! I recently joined the Nintendo task force, but since then I rarely visited its main Wikiproject page. Now that I do, in order to find and improve stub articles, I feel that it's starting to look a bit outdated and a bit too "heavy" looking, design-wise. I think that all of us could find together a way to improve the page to be more user-friendly and and easier to use and find information on what areas editors can help. So to start this, I'd like to present to you a concept logo, something I did in a couple of minutes. Here it is:

What do you guys think?--Arkhandar (TalkContribs) 20:06, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

I like it. It's real classy. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 17:37, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it :)
I've added it to the main page, along with the major redesign I talked about. I hope you guys like it, and feel free to change whatever you feel necessary. Thanks.--Arkhandar (TalkContribs) 22:37, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
Nice work! I'm slightly less convinced by the changes to {{User Nintendo task force}}... it feels... bland? I dunno quite how to put it. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  15:16, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks :) I've been experimenting with some other designs for the userbox but I can't seem to get it right. I'm kinda creatively stuck right now. Any tips? --Arkhandar (TalkContribs) 18:05, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Articles for characters in various Zelda games.

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to design the infrastructures for articles on characters from Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and The Wind Waker if I were to gather sources for them. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 17:39, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

I'm not aware whether Wikipedia or Wikiproject video games has a certain manual of style for biographies of fictional characters. Nevertheless, as long as you can source all info and that info is notable it should be okay. The Zelda Wiki might be a good place to get some inspiration. For example, for the Princess Zelda article we could do something like this:
  • Lead
  • Concept and design
  • Naming (tradition)
  • Physical traits
  • Personality
  • Role in The Legend of Zelda series (fictional chronology order)
  • ...(all games)
  • Alter egos
  • Other appearances
  • Super Smash Bros.
  • Cultural impact
  • Reception
What do you think? :) --Arkhandar (TalkContribs) 22:57, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
  • For major characters/races, absolutely. Link, Ganon (maybe Vaati?), Zelda, Navi, Epona, Majora, Happy Mask Salesman. I think a single "Races in the Zelda universe" article could adequatly cover the Kokiri, Hylians, Gerudo, Zora/Ruto, Goron, Deku, Minish, and everything else in between. I also think there could be enough content for per-universe character articles for the larger games (one for Oot, MM, WW, SS). For individual articles for characters suck as Malon, Kafei/Anju, Saria, Aryll.... I'm not so sure. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  15:09, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I was unclear; I meant to say that we should have an article for lists of characters from those specific games. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 21:22, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Nintendo 3DS circuit board.jpg

image:Nintendo 3DS circuit board.jpg has been nominated for deletion -- 70.24.249.39 (talk) 22:38, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

The image was deleted as it failed notability criteria. Besides, the image itself didn't add anything to the article that was substantial enough to guarantee its inclusion. Hardware specs can easily be described on prose or with a free image, if one is available.--Arkhandar (TalkContribs) 22:15, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

I don't feel that Super Smash Bros. on 64 is anywhere near noteworthy enough to hold onto the main title of the article. As we do with Castlevania (video game), The Legend of Zelda (video game), and Metroid (video game), we should remove the disambig and move Super Smash Bros. to the above-mentioned title. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 14:52, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Anyone interested in doing the work for this? A potentially interesting article that is almost guaranteed to have the sources needed. It definitely passes with respect to lasting value. Here are some examples of things Nintendo did under the "Year of Luigi" promotion. [1]

  1. Luigi Nintendo 3DS XL
  2. SpotPass promotion featuring Nintendo staff dressed as Luigi
  3. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
  4. Club Nintendo figurine and coin
  5. New Super Luigi U
  6. Luigi-themed Nintendo Direct
  7. "Finding Luigi - Legend of Parkour"
  8. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
  9. Luigi-only version of Mario Bros. in Super Mario 3D World
  10. Super Luigi Bros. in NES Remix 2
  11. Dr. Luigi

They went pretty silly on this, all things considered. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 07:34, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

Redirect this talk page as part of task force cleanup

I've proposed a comprehensive cleanup of WP:VG's inactive task forces (which would include redirecting all task force talk pages, including this one), if you'll take a look czar  01:44, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Smash 3DS/Wii U?

Anyone interested in scooping up the GAN for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U? The Smash Bros. featured topic has already passed its retention period, so I've made a small number of edits and just nominated the article myself. Think this can get done before the end of 2014?

On another note, if anyone wants to play, hit me up for a 3DS Friend Code. I mained Ness, Pikachu, and Jigglypuff in Brawl, but have been playing a lot of Mii Fighter with this one. Tezero (talk) 19:15, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

I've been doing some sprucing up and I think the star logo looks much nicer than the micrologo . Any thoughts or opposition to changing it throughout the project? – czar 15:22, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

I prefer the micrologo -- after all, isn't Nintendo known as "the Big N"? It looks more professional / less childish to me, and its color is (IMO) better suited to the bgcolor of the WPVG banner template. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  15:27, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
@Czar:There's nothing nice or not nice about it. This would eliminate the entire purpose of a logo, which is identification or even any meaning at all. What Salvidrim! said. — Smuckola(talk) 19:25, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
I think the red is garish—ostensibly this is why Nintendo's logo changed to gray in 2006 and why the TF matches. I also think the Star is a much more widely recognized symbol of the company's products than an N in a rounded, red rectangle. (This is to say that Mario is better known than Nintendo itself and its logo.) Wouldn't have suggested it if it were apropos of nothing. As for "the big N", I don't see that used any more for Nintendo than for other companies. – czar 20:04, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
I'm sorry to differ, sir, but this is entirely original research and mistaken opinion. :) The star is not a symbol of the company's products whatsoever, and this particular star graphic doesn't even look the same as the ones Nintendo has made. The star is totally irrelevant; it is one of the most generic icons which is drowned within a sea of countless other icons within a gigantic superseries within the corporation (which is the topic). It's not particularly recognizable at all, let alone not being more singularly recognizable to the company than the company's own name or logo. Ths wikiproject and its icon are an umbrella over Nintendo. Nintendo is a corporation; it isn't the Mario series, let alone a random icon fragment from a product. Since you mention it, yes you did in fact suggest it as appropriate of nothing but to keep yourself busy. I am really sorry to have to say it, and I don't mean to belabor the point or to put too fine of a point on it, but I'm just trying to respond conclusively in kind. This is not only change for the pure sake of change, but it doesn't make any sense at all. It's a mistaken solution in search of a nonexistent problem.
Since the company definitively (though arbitrarily, and I doubt for the reason you made up) changed their logo color altogether, then I could see how a person could suggest updating our project logo to their new bland color, which is harder to see in the low contrast of an informational environment like an encyclopedia, and thus useless; and the new color doesn't represent their most notable, iconic, and vitally necessary period. Thank you for your overall hard and creative work. Sorry. Many 1ups to you, sir. — Smuckola(talk) 20:54, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
I understood your opinion fine without the patronizing condescension. For what it's worth, Nintendo did change from red to gray to be more "discrete"—see Kotaku and File talk:Nintendo.svg. The gray is the official logo and the red was only used for a period of the company's history. I would think that the Mario mushroom or star, particularly at small sizes, would all be more recognizable as Nintendo symbols than the concatenated Nintendo logo with outdated colors. Absent some kind of proof of this, I'll let it be. – czar 19:27, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
I'd favor the red+white mushroom over the star. I don't think the concept of a star is so closely associated with Nintendo (eyes or not), while the mushroom design is extremely recognizable. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  19:58, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

To all interested editors on Wikipedia. There is a rather heated discussion going on on the talk page of Fire Emblem Fates about the inclution of the category "LGBT-related video games". This is the first game in its series to feature the option of a same-sex relationship, but some editors feel that there is not enough content or relevance to merit its inclusion. Can you please come to this RfC and give your stance or opinion. If there are valid, Wikipedia Policy-related reasons for its removal, please cite them fully so there will be no further confusion or argument. --ProtoDrake (talk) 09:33, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Nintendo Taskforce  articles by quality     Refresh

Would anyone be interested in a drive to bulk up or otherwise process the project's 180 stubs? Many need more sources to prove their notability and a bunch are just better off merged to their parent for the time being. WP:SE has a much smaller scope but they similarly went through their stubs. Anyway, wanted to float the idea. – czar 15:32, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

I knocked it down to 40 articles that need text expansion from the nearest source. Feel free to take a stab at sourcing and expanding one past 1500 characters! – czar 07:36, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
After much ado, the stubs have been expanded, merged, deleted, and otherwise sorted. I imagine there will be a few stragglers, but anything that could feasibly be expanded into a full article has been at least started and the rest have been moved into better homes. Just waiting for the last prod to clear now. On to the next project, – czar 01:15, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
Fuck, dude, I have no words. When faced with such dedicated and efficient content contributors and people who actually follow through their ideas all the way, I can't do a thing but stand, mouth agape, in powerless reverence. I'm always such an un productive slacker full of ideas but I never do anything or go anywhere with them and end up watching other people work wishing I could kick my own ass into gear. I guess what I mean to say is: thanks, and kudos.  · Salvidrim! ·  01:22, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

My next plans are to bring some of our franchises to GA status (lots of rewriting...) and to raise our articles to general coverage (higher than Start class)—this is to make sure we're providing the baseline coverage readers expect from our articles. I'm first going to take a pass through the 536 articles on the docket and will merge the stuff with insufficient potential sourcing, and then make a second pass to expand what's left to C-class quality. Feel free to join in! – czar 15:38, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
