Possible editathon at IA Summit, May 5-8, Omni Atlanta Hotel[edit]

Greetings from the North,

Who might I talk to about hosting a mini editathon during the Information Architecture Summit, May 5-8 in Atlanta? (iasummit.org). I am a member of the NYC Wikimedia group and have been accepted to host an editathon and introduction to Wikipedia editing activity as part of the conference game night, which is usually held on Saturday night. I would love to invite Wikipedia Atlanta members to participate as facilitators. I did an introduction to Wikipedia at this event last year in Minneapolis and was happy to get assistance from three local Wikipedians.

There is also a possibility of an offsite meeting that is being arranged by attendees who had considered boycotting the event due to recent anti-LGBT legislation but felt a better idea might be to host an open discussion of inclusiveness and diversity. An editathon might be a good complement. I had seen plans for a Wiki Loves Pride event in Atlanta in June so it could be a nice lead up to that activity: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_Loves_Pride_2016/Atlanta

Please let me know if anyone is interested and I can forward additional details. Looking forward to my Atlanta visit! Nwhysel (talk) 12:15, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The offsite event is now official. IA Institute will be hosting a working session on architecting the information of Georgia House Bill 757 on May 7 at the Center for Civil and Human Rights. I would like to invite participation from Atlanta Wikipedians to facilitate training on researching Wikipedia and WikiData resources for local legislation. Feel free to contact me.
