Postcards[edit]

I have received several postcards from Asia as a result of this initiative. Not only do the cards show places in the world I am never likely to visit, but they remind me that Wikipedia editors form a worldwide brotherhood with a common objective. I would like to thank those who organised the Asian Month, as well as all those who participated. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:42, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How many prospective recipients out of total 147 have so far received the post card? Nannadeem (talk) 13:41, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WAM 2016[edit]

I understand Wikipedia Asian Month will be repeated in November 2016. As there are only four weeks to go, perhaps a preliminary announcement could be made. To avoid confusion with Wikipedia Asian Month 2015, it might be useful to create a new page Wikipedia:Wikipedia Asian Month 2016.--Ipigott (talk) 06:59, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. It would help to have a page for 2016.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 21:34, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I really enjoyed participating in WAM 2015, but I won't be involved this year because of the Africa Destubathon. It seems to me that Asian Month probably should be deferred to another time. StAnselm (talk) 21:53, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • StAnslem raises a very good point. Having events that cover two whole continents at the same time is a bad idea, especially when the other event has already started and is offering prizes. I ask the organizers AddisWang, SuperHamster and Rosiestep to consider delaying this until December. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 00:26, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm excited to see there is another project focus on African content, which is also less represented on Wikipedia. But Wikipedia Asian Month has set up to be hold in November since last year and its also a global multilingual event that can not be compromised due to other campaign on one Wikipedia.--AddisWang (talk) 00:40, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies, I forgot there were other Wikis involved. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 01:19, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
AtHomeIn神戸: No problems. Hope you enjoy the Destubathon and maybe also have time joining us. Best WIshes,--AddisWang (talk) 02:11, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Can AddisWang, SuperHamster and Rosiestep put a page up somewhere about when Asia Month is going to be and detailing the rules. It takes time to plan these types of things so we should at least have a page to help people understand what is expected and plan something.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 03:34, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
AddisWang, SuperHamster and Rosiestep, what is going on with Asia Month? Is anyone making a page for it?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 15:51, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest having a new logo/graphic with "Wikipedia Asian Month 2016" rather than "Wikipedia Asian Month 2015". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:56A:76A4:9800:A849:C833:AD85:20AD (talk) 12:21, 19 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rules[edit]

In the rules it has mentioned that "The article is about an Asian Country or region except [your language speaking country(s)]". Does it mean a user from another country, (ex. India) shouldn't create an article about his/her country?--L Manju (talk) 04:21, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

L Manju: Such rules does not affect EnWp just because its hard to determine which are English-Speaking country. Furthermore, this rule means, for example on Hindi Wikipedia, article about India should not count. "your language speaking country(s)" may make more sense in meaning of "The language speaking country(s) of your home Wiki"--AddisWang (talk) 14:02, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you AddisWang. --L Manju (talk) 07:47, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

I'm just too curious of this new social networking site. so i just tried to signed up for me not to be ignorant with but as of now I'm confusing about article. and do not know yet what — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jayrcainoy (talkcontribs) 04:13, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is a competition to create or expand articles related to Asia. Please see the rules here [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Asian_Month#Rules]. If you have specific question(s) about rule(s) or anything, please let us know. Best, --Tito Dutta (talk) 07:20, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Stubbs[edit]

I'd rather see a "contest" (collaboration) developing pages. Even Mencius isn't developed, in the sense of discussing his brand of Confucianism. Compare with Zhu Xi.FourLights (talk) 07:50, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Article[edit]

May I provide previous articles for the contest with new one.Rosepal8 (talk) 11:28, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello, please explain what you mean by "previous articles". If you are talking about expanding articles, this does not seem to be part of this year's edit-a-thon. Regards. --Tito Dutta (talk) 13:15, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A piece of anti-Indonesian propaganda[edit]

Currently, on the map of Asia on this article, eastern Indonesian provinces of West Papua and Papua are shown as not part of Indonesia and Asia. I understand that it's due to the map being a physical one, but, considering we're dealing with the Asian countries, it sends a racist anti-Indonesian sentiment. I doubt it is the official Wikipedia's stance on this controversial issue, so I request this map to be removed or changed accordingly. Thank you for understanding.--Adûnâi (talk) 18:26, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • I personally can not verify the statement, but I strongly believe that no attempt was made to hurt anyone's sentiment. Wikipedia Asian Month is a community-driven initiative and Wikipedia/Wikimedia (WMF) are not controlling it.I'd try checking this. --Tito Dutta (talk) 18:52, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • This map is only showing the outline of Asia, geographically, not politically. If by your opinion, West part of Russia on this map is also not part of Russia? Please make sure you understand this page is not suppose to show the all territory of any country before censuring others.--AddisWang (talk) 19:03, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Looking at the file history of File:Asia (orthographic projection).svg, West Papua has been added a few times but it has never lasted long. Asia#Asia–Oceania boundary should cover this, but the discussion there is short and vague. In any case, there are other countries that are only partially in the shaded area - for example, East Thrace (part of Turkey) is regarded as Europe and is not shaded. StAnselm (talk) 19:26, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • According to List of transcontinental countries, Indonesia spans two continents, Asia and Oceania. The non-highlighted portion of Indonesia is simply the portion not considered to be part of Asia; it's not about taking sides over whether or not that land is part of Indonesia itself. -- 173.14.161.21 (talk) 00:35, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Adûnâi Whatever will happen about this issue, the words "anti", "propaganda" and "racist" are just extremely malplaced. "Discriminating" is the only fitting term in this regard. If you (or anyone) wants to be taken seriously in any context, please make an effort to write intelligently from an enlightened mind. RhinoMind (talk) 16:27, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Q[edit]

@AddisWang, SuperHamster, Rosiestep, and Titodutta: If the article is more than 3,000 bytes and less than 300 word then. Will it be the perfect 4 this asian month. 36.253.254.27 (talk) 05:12, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - great question. An article should be both 3,000 bytes and 300 words long. Having one but not the other will not qualify. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:14, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks 36.253.255.224 (talk) 05:19, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification: "The article should be about any topic concerning an Asian country."[edit]

Does it have to concern "an Asian country" or just about topics in Asia in general? The thing is, unlike countries in Europe, many countries in Asia haven't been around for a long time. For example, topics about the culture of the Islamic caliphates (at least the Asian part of it) are certainly related to Asia, but not necessarily about any Asian country, given that countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, etc. have only around in the last millenia. HaEr48 (talk) 06:22, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@HaEr48:, as long as the main object of the article is about/ located geographically in Asia, it does not matter which current country it related with.--AddisWang (talk) 17:49, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@AddisWang: awesome, thanks for the clarification! HaEr48 (talk) 17:51, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Creating new article on a redirect page[edit]

@AddisWang:, @SuperHamster:, @Rosiestep:, @Titodutta: Good day! I just want to ask, if I create a new article on a current redirect page, can I submit that article in WAM, and will it count to me? Thank you! ~Manila's PogingJuan 06:30, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@PogingJuan: Yes it will count. But you can not submit the article through the tool. So please submit the article on this page.--AddisWang (talk) 06:38, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Noted. Thank you! :) ~Manila's PogingJuan 06:49, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Stub articles[edit]

Hello, specially for the WP Asian Month I started creating stubs of notable people from Asia. These stubs are not fulfilling the rules as they are not long enough. However, are you intersted in listing these pages for the records? If you are interested I will continue working on them and will create many Asian stubs in November (already created 171 Asian sportswomen in 2 days). Cheers, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 16:11, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Sander.v.Ginkel: Yes you can go ahead do that, I created this section for you. Though I strongly suggest you improve four of these articles to fulfill the requirement so we can (we would be glad) to send you a postcard. Many of the articles may only need a small expansion to just fit the WAM rules.--AddisWang (talk) 17:53, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism in the list of participants[edit]

When I click the "show" button to see the list of participants, the first line is this: "TRUTH:INDIAN GOVERNMENT IS CORRUPT AND KILLS INNOCENT SIKHS, PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THIS AND HELP JUSTICE THRIVE." I'm hesitant to believe that this is supposed to be there, but since the page is semi-protected I cannot remove it. If it is supposed to be there, could it be explained, please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Imcanderson (talkcontribs) 19:35, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It was removed, thanks letting us know!--AddisWang (talk) 22:55, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Computer says no to this because it was moved from an old sandbox page. Johnbod (talk) 03:05, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Johnbod: So the article has to be created and finished in November. This article by rules are not qualified. According to previous discussion, this rule is bit confused. So you can submit this article on this page next to your user name. And we will count to your accepted articles if that will make you 15th accepted article.--AddisWang (talk) 03:53, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Johnbod (talk) 04:05, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

to high scales[edit]

Hello! I faced a problem, which I want to share with all. "Only new articles are needed" this rule is very high. Because most of stubs are needed extension in Hindi wikipedia. We are working for quality not for quantity. And secondly it is to high for user to find articles. So please tell me if we can change "only new articles" rule from Hindi wikipedia and Sanskrit Wikipedia. NehalDaveND (talk) 11:19, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@NehalDaveND:The judging tool can not identify the expansion on articles, and it will require a lot of judge's workload. So you can if you don't mind manually check all articles and report the statistic in the end (it is handled by judging tool right now for new articles). People can report their expansion contribution on the Participate page just like last year. Hope that can help you. BTW, can you post the link of Hindi version Asian Month page?--AddisWang (talk) 13:33, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your explanation. This is the Hindi Asia month NehalDaveND (talk) 07:49, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@NehalDaveND: Does Hindi Wikipedia not have any long lists with a large number of red links, like List of Three Hundred Tang Poems poets or Ogura Hyakunin Isshu#Poets? Setting aside the proportion of stubs to full articles, Hindi and Sanskrit Wikipedias definitely have a smaller overall number of existing articles than English, so Hindi Wikipedia editors actually have an advantage over English Wikipedia editors when it comes to the supply of notable topics that don't already have some form of article. It also might just be my opinion, but quality is a higher standard than quantity. Hijiri 88 (やや) 08:05, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
;) There are so many stubs in hi-sa.wiki and some users are interested quality work only. They are not going to make new article about 300 words. I am personally too believe in this philosophy. Some of them will make new articles. So I tried to open second way for others. Lastly I think that kinds of lists are there or not I don't know. Sorry. NehalDaveND (talk) 08:14, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thing is, Asian Month by its very nature has to reward quantity over quality. The judges can't determine whether one or two long articles are FA standard, but they can determine whether an article is adequate, so the only thing Asian Month can reward editors for is the number of articles they create that are at least adequate. Hijiri 88 (やや) 08:23, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How to contribute[edit]

Hello. I am new to wikipedia and I am not sure how to contribute to Wikipedia Asian Month. Where to I write the articles and submit them? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Charlotteamc (talkcontribs) 15:11, 4 November 2016 (UTC) @Charlotteamc: I left a welcome message on your talk page so you can try to make some edits on Wikipedia.--AddisWang (talk) 00:04, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"There must be ...no tags... within the article"?[edit]

Hey. I'm planning on submitting the article on Yu Wuling I created, once I've expanded it a bit. But I have a question about this.

I replaced a reliable scholarly source that gave the poem's text in Japanese shinjitai rather than traditional or simplified Chinese with a dubious blog that gave the exact same text in what looks like the correct Chinese orthography. The text itself is public domain and all goes back to the same ninth-century author, and I know it's still accurate because it's the same basic text as appears in the reliable sources. Obviously in the long run I would like to replace the blog with a reliable source that gives the Chinese text, but I'm not sure if this will be feasible within the month, and it wouldn't be a serious issue with regard to either WP:V or WP:COPYVIO if I just removed the citations altogether.

So I'm wondering which would make the article best from the point of view of Asian Month:

  1. remove the tags because the blog source is adequate for the "claims" being attributed to it per WP:BLUE;
  2. remove the tags and the citations because the BLUE "claims" don't need citations; or
  3. leave the citations and tags in because Template:Better source is here being used as a pedantic and unnecessarily strict measure and the Asian Month judges can see that.

Considerably expanded articles[edit]

Are expanded articles eligible for this year Wikipedia Asian Month, say a 5 times expanded article?--Rochelimit (talk) 18:48, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ok, only new article.. got it.--Rochelimit (talk) 02:58, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Rochelimit: If I recall correctly (and I was too busy with other stuff to fully take part last year), last year the rules were a little different (hence the misprint that was in the template until I corrected it earlier today). They must have changed it for whatever reason. If I had to guess (and it's only a guess!) I would say that there were problems with users taking short but well-written and sourced articles, and expanding them and making them worse, but getting points in the short run anyway. Hijiri 88 (やや) 07:08, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Hijiri88:I thought it has something to do with this year's manpowers and the judging system. I prefer to still have the expansion though, but oh well, maybe next year.--Rochelimit (talk) 09:25, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, you might well be right. I really don't know. I agree with you that including expansions would be nice, too: my best work ever was in 2015 on an article someone else started in 2005. Hijiri 88 (やや) 09:30, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

new article location[edit]

Hello. I was wondering when I submit my articles, could I submit an article that is in my userspace? Or do i need to move it into the mainspace before submitting it to WAM? Thanks. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 05:05, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MrLinkinPark333: You are welcome to create drafts of articles in your userpace, but only articles that have been moved to the mainspace should be submitted. Thanks! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:08, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@MrLinkinPark333: BTW make sure the article you submit has to be created during November. So if your draft page is created before November, and you move it to main space, you can not submit it.--AddisWang (talk) 15:55, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Translation[edit]

As some might have noticed, I'm creating for the WP Asian Month stubs on female international footballers. I found a list of some notable international Asian footballers, but I only know their original name. Are people willing to translate them to their name in Latin script so I can start creating these articles if they are not already on Wikipedia?

Number of articles submitted[edit]

Hello. I am participating in this years event. Where can we see how many articles we have submitted? I remember a page where the number was related to Usernames, but cannot find it again. If anyone knowns, please post a link, thank you. RhinoMind (talk) 16:46, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@RhinoMind: at here--AddisWang (talk) 23:11, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! thanks a lot. It appears though, that the website is awfully slow. I have created five articles within the scope of this event, but only 2 are noted... Hmmm. Anyway, thanks for pointing to this website, very useful. RhinoMind (talk) 00:53, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to add my articles using the fountain tool, with no luck. I sent a message to Le Loy, and will see how I can proceed. thanks. --Mervat Salman (talk) 17:57, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Do Asian languages count?[edit]

I was reading through the criteria and wasn't certain if "new articles relating to Asia" would also include articles written in Asian languages? For example, I study Japanese. Would writing an article in https://ja.wikipedia.org (Japanese Wikipedia) count under this criteria—whether the article itself was related to Asia or not? — Tha†emoover†here (talk) 01:22, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You can contribute at Japanese Wikipedia Asian Month at the link User:Indydegrees1 (thanks!) provided. Each language Wikipedia runs WAM sperately. You will win a postcard both on jawp and enwp. Best,--AddisWang (talk) 23:07, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Also, let's say they don't count if the articles themself aren't related to Asia. Does writing articles relating to Asia in other languages still count, or can we only write Asia-related articles in English? — Tha†emoover†here (talk) 01:26, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The rule is, each language write about Asia-related content except the "native speaking country of that language" (e.g. Japanese exclude Japan, Korean exclude both Korea)--AddisWang (talk) 23:08, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. While I am not qualified to answer your questions officially, I want to add that this event is only taking place on the English Wikipedia. For this reason I don't think any articles created outside of the English WP would count in this event. Just saying. RhinoMind (talk) 18:53, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. While also not qualified, I noticed this at ja.wikipedia.org that would imply the event is indeed taking place on non-English Wikipedias --Indydegrees1 (talk) 01:09, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@RhinoMind and Indydegrees1: Thanks for answering at here. --AddisWang (talk) 23:10, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Thatemooverthere: Just remember that on Japanese Wikipedia, "Asian Month" does not include articles on Japanese topics, because the point is to improve that Wikipedia's coverage of Asian topics that aren't already the beneficiary of systemic bias. I can only assume that the same is true for other languages (Korean topics are excluded from Korean Wikipedia Asian Month, and so on). I found this out the hard way.[1] Hijiri 88 (やや) 15:03, 26 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We'd like to invite global participation at the Guggenheim edit-a-thon in New York City this coming Saturday, capping off Wikipedia Asian Month. There are a number of potential artist-tied topics, and we welcome contributions in any language.--Pharos (talk) 13:22, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Name present on postcard?[edit]

This might seem like a stupid question, but in the "Name present on postcard" field I have to enter my real name, right? I am a bit confused by the wording of this. --TobbiM (talk) 14:29, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@TobbiM: Yes you have to provide a name other than username in the "Name present on postcard" field only to ensure you receive your postcard because sometimes it creates miss understanding when the address is shared by many people. The organisers will not associate your user name with your address when sending it to local community to send postcard. Hope this answer helps. Suppressed registrations[edit]

Hi. Just wanted to document that the registration template for submission of articles to the contest didn't work properly. I myself had submitted 5 articles, but only 2 were registered. All five qualified for submission.

If you want editors to take you seriously in the future, you would need to fix this.

Documentation (@AddisWang:)

Number of registered articles here (search for "Rhino" to find my place). Only two articles were registered; the first two on the list above.

RhinoMind (talk) 03:32, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @RhinoMind: You submit articles through the Fountain tool, not by adding the WAM template to the article's talk page. The talk page template is actually auto-added to the talk page after you submit your article through the Fountain tool. See this page for more information. I'll see if we can get your articles included since you intended to submit them - just not promises yet. Thanks! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 04:50, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Dooh! :-S Thanks for responding and explaining stuff SuperHamster. I must say however, that I don't really get the system. I am directed to this page on WikiMedia to submit articles, not the Fountain tool, which only gives an overview of already submitted articles. I don't remember how my two articles made it to Ft's registration in the first place. Cross fingers for you helping my articles to be submitted, I really long for a PostCard! :-D RhinoMind (talk) 22:18, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@RhinoMind: No problem. The Fountain tool is the primary way of submitting articles. The late submit page is there for anyone who had trouble submitting articles in the last few days, or anyone who is submitting articles after the end of November (as you have done - thanks!). I'll give the articles a look-through and give them a thumbs-up if they're good to go. We'll also be sure to make the submission instructions more clear for next year. Cheers, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:47, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Submission status[edit]

I could not find my submissions here, though included it on main page along with user name. Regards--Omer123hussain (talk) 05:36, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Omer123hussain: I've checked over your articles, and unfortunately I had to decline them for either copyright violations or not meeting our length requirements of 300 words and 3,000 bytes. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 10:27, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, @SuperHamster: thanks for your review, mean while can you let me know which article meets copyright violations so that we can c/e it, and all this; ( Golconda Diamonds , Deccan painting, Nujum-ul-Ulum, Sports in Hyderabad ‎ ) 4 articles meet the required length and breadth as per WAM. Regards :)--Omer123hussain (talk) 03:52, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

So, when should I expect my postcards?[edit]

I filled out the form and said that I had participated in English and French Wikipedias, but at the time my French articles hadn't been accepted yet and I was more concerned about that than worrying when and how the cards would get to me. Was there some notice somewhere about how we would be asked for our mailing addresses or some such? Hijiri 88 (やや) 13:41, 25 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I got this. Johnbod (talk) 16:41, 25 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I did not receive this invitation like Johnbod. I guess this is not done automatically all at once but one by one?--MirkoS18 (talk) 18:10, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have received the invite and filled it out but haven't received my postcard yet. Seems like they take a while to get delivered. --TobbiM (talk) 14:19, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
My postcard arrived today, in California, from Japan. Thank you, Takot!Penny Richards (talk) 20:46, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

When will I receive the postcard?[edit]

I live in India. I had filled up the form. 4 months have passed. I have not received the postcard yet. When will I receive the postcard? Che12PM 13:26, 21 March 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Che12Guevara (talkcontribs)

@Che12Guevara: You didn't write any articles in November 2016 -- why do you think you should get a postcard? Are you talking about WAM on Bengali Wikipedia? I got only one of the two postcards I was due (I also passed the bar on fr.wiki), but at least I accidentally got someone else's postcard that had been accidentally glued to mine as a consolation prize. It's not yours, though (the address was not in India). I suspect some other random recipient got your postcard. I think this really needs to be operated more efficiently this year; I'm definitely going to participate again, but I am having serious doubts about requesting my postcard. Hijiri 88 (やや) 11:53, 28 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Hijiri88: Yes I wrote in WAM on Bengali Wikipedia. I should receive 1 postcard. The Bengali administrator Nahid has already sent me a new postcard (as I haven't received the due postcard) and I hope to receive it soon. Che12PM 12:41, 28 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Upcoming editathon in Eugene, Oregon[edit]

Just sharing a link to an upcoming editathon in Eugene, Oregon: Wikipedia:Meetup/Eugene/WikiAPA. Remote participation is also encouraged! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:37, 10 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SGS (talk) 21:20, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is WAM on this year?[edit]

Hey, in case it wasn't implied by the above, I've kinda soured on the postcard thing, but I'm still interested in participating in the editathon, and this year I've got my "Japanese culture" TBAN suspended and so would probably do much better than last year. But it's now a third of the way through October and no word yet on whether WAM 2017 is even happening. Hijiri 88 (やや) 23:37, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Hijiri88: Judging by this, sounds like it's happening. _dk (talk) 23:26, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Underbar dk: Umm... meta:Wikipedia Asian Month 2017#Communities and Organizers implies it's not happening on English Wikipedia unless I or someone else volunteers to become the local organizer within the next two or three weeks. Hijiri 88 (やや) 00:15, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Hijiri88: It seems like a massive gaping hole to skip over enwiki since it's always the one with the most participation. And if I recall correctly, the global organizers themselves run the English Wikipedia version. Don't know if that's still going to be the case this year though. _dk (talk) 20:29, 15 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, @Hijiri88: and @Underbar dk:, Yes, WAM is happening this year . Please sign-up here to start Wikipedia Asian Month 2017 in English Wikipedia. I will keep you guys updated about any other progress. Thanks --Sailesh Patnaik (Questions) 18:40, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Hijiri88: @Underbar dk: Apologies for the late reply, there's been a big re-shuffling of organizes (both locally and internationally) and we're try to get up to speed. But yes, the English Wikipedia is participating this year, and I've updated the main page to reflect this :) We look forward to your participation! Also, Hijiri88, I sent you an email regarding the postcard - I'll see what I can do! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:25, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
