According to childwelfare.gov, "Approximately 29 States and the District of Columbia allow the adoption of any person, regardless of age." So there would really be nothing out of the ordinary for Mando to adopt a 50 year old, under U.S. law. Whether we characterize that as a "child" may be up to interpretation for that individual's life expectancy. I'd say the TOP25 writers get some leeway on this.
