Freehoff was born December 27, 1889, in Greenfield, La Crosse County, Wisconsin. He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Afterwards, he joined the school's staff.[1] On August 15, 1916, Freehoff married Ruth Florence Williams.
