Martina Navratilova was the three-time defending champion, but did not compete this year.

Gabriela Sabatini won the title by defeating Mary Joe Fernández 7–6(7–5), 6–4 in the final. As a result, Sabatini won a Porsche 944 S2 for winning the tournament.[1]
