The men's 100 metre backstroke competition at the 1997 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships took place on August 10 at the NISHI Civic Pool.[1] The last champion was Jeff Rouse of US.[2]

This race consisted of two lengths of the pool, all in backstroke.[3]
