On the morning of 8 September 2024, a Jordanian truck driver carried out a mass shooting at the Allenby Bridge, killing three Israeli border guards working at the border crossing.[3][4][1] The Allenby Border Crossing connects the Israeli-occupied West Bank with Jordan, and has seen a number of violent incidents.
The attack
On the morning of September 8, 2024, around 10 a.m., a 39-year-old Jordanian truck driver arriving from the Jordanian side of the Allenby Crossing concealed a Kalashnikov rifle in his truck. Upon reaching the Israeli workers at the cargo terminal, he pulled out the weapon and began shooting at them. Three Israeli border guards, approximately 50 years old, were critically injured and later pronounced dead. The gunman was shot and killed.[5]
Jordan released a statement saying that it closed its borders and is currently investigating this incident.[6]

Jordan's Ministry of Interior said that initial investigations into the shooting incident at King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge earlier today confirmed that the shooter was a Jordanian citizen named Maher Diab Hussein Al-Jazi, according to Jordan's news agency Petra.
