An interim government in Bangladesh is set to be formed following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 5 August 2024 due to student protests against the government. The President of Bangladesh, Mohammed Shahabuddin, confirmed that an interim government would be formed as soon as possible.[1][2][3][4] Following the dissolution of parliament, the interim government will remain in office until the holding of snap parliamentary elections.

It was reported that Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus had been approached to be the head of the interim government.[5]
