Meyeder Raat Dokhol (lit. 'Girls' claim of the night') was the movement and protest march by women in West Bengal, India.[1][2][3][4]
Background
[edit]On 9 August 2024, a 31-year old post-graduate trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered in the campus area of R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata.[5] Several criticism was being faced by state government, Kolkata Police and particularly by the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee and her entire cabinet.
Protests and Demonstrations
[edit]The protest was held on 14 August 2024, at 11 PM IST across Kolkata, West Bengal, across India and in some other countries as well at a same time.[6] [7] [8]
Rimjhim Sinha, a social science researcher and graduate from Presidency University, Kolkata, launched the protest campaign through social media platforms, with the title Meyera Raat Dokhol Koro, Swadhinotar Modhyoraate Naari Swadhinotar Jonno (lit. 'The girls occupy the night, For the freedom of women, in the midnight of Independence').[9]
