[edit]

The helicopter involved was a Mil Mi-8T, an aircraft type which was introduced in 1967.[6] The helicopter was operated by Vityaz-Aero.[7]

Disappearance

[edit]

The helicopter disappeared from radar at around 16:15 local time shortly after takeoff. No difficulties were reported by the crew before the disappearance.[7] Weather officials said that there was poor visibility in the area where it took off.[8]

Search operations

[edit]

A search operation by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations was launched.[1][4][5] The focus of operations was at the Bystraya River valley, which was in the helicopter's flight path. However, operations were hindered by fog.[7]
