Abdelaziz Mathari, born November 27, 1922, and died May 20, 2004, in Tunis, is a Tunisian economist and politician.
Biography
[edit]A graduate of HEC Paris, in 1950 he followed an 18-month internship at Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken in Sweden.[1]
Upon his return to Tunisia, he became chief of staff of Prime Minister Habib Bourguiba. As soon as independence was proclaimed in 1956, he founded, on January 18, 1957, the Société Tunisienne de Banque which he directed until March 18, 1971.[2]
He subsequently became Minister of Finance (December 26, 1977 – April 25, 1980).[3]
In May 2014, the Société Tunisienne de Banque paid a vibrant tribute to Abdelaziz Mathari for the tenth anniversary of his death and honored his memory by giving his name to the branch at the bank's headquarters, renamed “Abdelaziz-Mathari Central Agency”. in the presence of the deceased's daughter.[4]
