Amanda Kasmira Cryer (née Amanda Kasmira Brown) is an Irish Canadian filmmaker and social impact influencer. Born in Toronto, Ontario, she grew up in Ontario and North Vancouver, B.C. Cryer holds dual citizenship in Canada and the United States and is becoming an Irish citizen in 2024 through Foreign Birth Registration. Her heritage is predominantly Celtic (Irish), with additional Greek/Balkan ancestry (Bosnia & Herzegovina) on her maternal side.[1]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Amanda's parents separated when she was five. She has three siblings: Sean, Sarah, and Jade. Her younger brother, Sean Burnett, known professionally as Shon Burnett, is a Thai musical artist who was a Top 6 finalist on The Next Star and a Top 10 finalist in the singing competition K-Pop Star Hunt 2. Amanda participated in dancing and dramatic arts during her school years, studying theater at Carousel Theatre in Vancouver, B.C., and with June Whittaker and Bruce Glover in Los Angeles, CA.
Career
[edit]Amanda has collaborated with a diverse range of individuals, including leading change makers, media professionals, celebrities, community activists, leaders at the United Nations, scientists, philosophers, thought leaders, TV and film personalities, Nobel Peace Prize recipients, CEOs, and individuals in politics and policy.[2]
In the realm of film, Amanda's productions include What They Wanted, What They Got, starring Zach Galligan, Michael Des Barres, and Alanna Ubach, which was sold to Showtime. She served as Executive Producer for Luz (2019) and as Producer for the award-winning Lord of Catan, starring Fran Kranz and Amy Acker. Amanda worked with a cohort of Native American actors, including Twilight series alum Chaske Spencer, to highlight water infrastructure issues impacting Indigenous communities in the United States.
Amanda acquired the rights to "Bloodloss[3]," an original story by Jeffery Potts, and partnered with BenderSpink Production Company, known for blockbuster hits like The Hangover and We're The Millers. Tragically, she faced the loss of her colleague and friend, J.C. Spink, in 2017.[4]
Amanda is also a global ambassador at GetBundi, a STEM and digital skills education tech platform aimed at African women, children, youth, and young adults. She has been featured in various media outlets, including LA Weekly as a Top Social Impact Influencer and other publications such as Forbes and Inc.. Her latest film, Inside Men (Living UN DONE), is produced by award-winning filmmaker Damon Russell and features Yusef Salaam and Betty Anne Waters.[5]
