Ashley James Charles (born 15 May 1999) is a footballer who plays as a midfielder for EFL League Two club Bromley. Born in England, he plays for the Grenada national team.

Club career

Charles is a youth product of his local club Watford since U14 level, and signed a contract with them on 7 June 2016 before going professional in 2017.[2] On 31 January 2019, he was loaned to the National League side Barnet for the second half of the 2018–20 season.[3] He was released by Watford in the summer of 2019.[4] He shortly after moved to Wealdstone, where he became a mainstay and starter.[5] He had a short loan with Concord Rangers in the winter of 2020.[6]

Charles completed a transfer to Bromley for an undisclosed fee in February 2024.[7]

International career

Born in England, Charles is of Grenadian descent. He was called up to the senior Grenada national team for a set of friendlies in June 2022.[8] He made his international debut with Grenada in a 2–2 CONCACAF Nations League tie with El Salvador on 8 June 2022.[9]

Personal life

Charles was charged with rape and an alternative count of sexual assault by penetration by a woman, on a night out with his friend Dennon Lewis in March 2021.[10] He was found not guilty by a jury in July 2022.[11]
