Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, AVSM, VM, VSM is an officer of the Indian Air Force. He is currently serving as the 47th Deputy Chief of the Air Staff. He assumed the office on 15 May 2023 succeeding Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

Ashutosh Dixit is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Pune. He is a graduate of staff course, Bangladesh and National Defence College, New Delhi.[3]

Career[edit]

Ashutosh Dixit was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force. In a career spanning over 36 years, he has as more than 3,300 hours of flying experience across various fighter, trainer and transport aircraft.[4]

He is a qualified flying instructor and experimental test pilot. He has extensive flying experience primarily on Mirage 2000. He served as the Commanding officer of No. 9 Squadron as well as the Flying Training School in Bengaluru.[2][3]

As Air Commodore, he served as the Principal Director for Air Staff Requirements at the Air Headquarter, New Delhi and later served as the Air Officer Commanding of AFS Bidar, Karnataka.[2][5]

As Air Vice Marshal, he served as the Assistant Chief of Air Staff, Air Headquarter, New Delhi. Later, he served as the Air Defence Commander of the Southern Air Command, Trivandrum and Assistant Chief of Air Staff, Plans at the Air Headquarter, New Delhi.[6]

After his promotion to Air Marshal in October 2021, he served as the Senior Air Staff Officer, South Western Air Command till 14 May 2023.[7]

He was appointed as the Deputy Chief of the Air Staff on 4 May 2023 and took over the office on 15 May 2023 from Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari. As the deputy chief, he will be looking after new procurements and also the acquisitions to be made for the service under the emergency powers.[2][5]

He has participated in Operation Rakshak and Operation Safed Sagar during the Kargil War.[2]

Honours and decorations[edit]

During his career, Ashutosh Dixit has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2023, Vayu Sena Medal in 2006 and Vishisht Seva Medal in 2011 for his service.[8][9][10]
