The 2024 Beach Break was the third annual Beach Break professional wrestling television special produced by All Elite Wrestling (AEW). The two-part event was broadcast as special episodes of AEW's weekly television programs, Wednesday Night Dynamite and Friday Night Rampage. It took place on July 3, 2024, at United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Dynamite aired live on TBS while Rampage aired on tape delay on TNT on July 5th. To date, this is the final Beach Break event, as one has not yet been announced to take place in 2025.

In the main event of the Dynamite broadcast, Will Ospreay defeated Daniel Garcia in a match for the AEW International Championship. The opening bout was a singles match to advance in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, in which Bryan Danielson defeated PAC to advance to the finals. In the main event of the Rampage broadcast, Mariah May defeated Hikaru Shida in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament semi finals, thus advancing to the finals of the tournament.

Production[edit]

Background[edit]

In February 2021, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) held a television special titled Beach Break, which aired as a special episode of Dynamite. The event replaced Bash at the Beach as the promotion's midwinter beach-themed event.[2][3] A second Beach Break was held on January 26, 2022 and aired as a two-part event as special episodes of Dynamite and Rampage, thus establishing Beach Break as an annual event.[4] A third Beach Break was scheduled for July 2024 and aired on July 3, 2024 and, like the last two events, Dynamite aired live on TBS while Rampage aired on tape delay on TNT on July 5th.[5]

Storylines[edit]

Beach Break featured professional wrestling matches that involved different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines. Wrestlers portrayed heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches.[6] Storylines were produced on AEW's weekly television programs, Dynamite, Rampage and AEW Collision and The Dark Order's YouTube series "Being The Dark Order".

Before the first match, Renee Paquette interviews Daniel Garcia and Matt Mernard ahead of Garcia's match against Will Ospreay for the AEW International Championship later in the night. MJF interrupts and tells Garcia he will be in his corner in the main event. When Garcia asks about the All In match MJF promised last week, MJF tells him to focus on that later. After Garcia walks away, Mernard tells MJF that he used to think he was full of it, but now he doesn't and the two shake hands.[7]

In the first match, Bryan Danielson and PAC face each other for a spot in the Owen Hart Foundation Cup Men's Tournament finals. In the end, Danielson trapped PAC in the LeBell lock, only for PAC to reverse but Danielson countered with a rollup for the three count.[8]

After that, Mark Briscoe came out to the ring and states that Jack Perry got lucky when he won the AEW TNT Championship at Forbidden Door. Perry then entered the ring behind Briscoe and attacked him with the championship. Kyle O'Reilly comes out to defend Briscoe but The Elite, The Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada, come out and beat down Briscoe and O'Reilly. The Acclaimed then come out and save both men and The Elite retreat by hopping over the barricade.[9]

Next, Kris Statlander, accompanied by Stokely Hathaway, and Willow Nightingale face off with the winner advancing to the Owen Hart Foundation Cup Women's final. Both women brawl on the stage before the match starts but Nightingale delivers a pounce to Statlander. Eventually both women get in the ring and the match starts. In the end, Hathaway gives Statlander a chain before distracting the referee. Statlander goes to hit Nightingale but Nightingale sees it coming and rolls up Statlander to win the match.[10]

After that, Britt Baker comes out to the ring and addresses her return at Forbidden Door, but Mercedes Moné interrupts her. After a back and forth on the mic, Baker challenges Moné for both the AEW TBS Championship and the NJPW Strong Women's Championship but Moné refuses, telling Baker to go to the back of the line.[11]

Next, Chris Jericho comes to the ring and evicts Taz from the commentary desk on orders of Matthew and Nicholas Jackson. Jericho then sits at the desk and announces he will do commentary for the next match.[12]

After that, Hook, Katsuyori Shibata and Samoa Joe face off against Cage of Agony (Bishop Kaun, Brian Cage and Toa Liona). In the end, Hook, Katsuyori Shibata and Samoa Joe got submissions on all 3 men causing them all to tap out, winning the match. But all of a sudden, Big Bill and Bryan Keith attack Hook, Shibata and Joe. Jericho comes off commentary and beats Hook in the ring. Keith gets a table from ringside and Big Bill proceeds to chokeslam Hook through the table.[13]

Next, Jeff Jarrett faces off against the wild card, handpicked by Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, which is revealed to be a returning "Hangman" Adam Page. Although Jarrett put up a fighting effort, in the end Page performed Dead Eye on Jarrett to advance to the finals.[14]

Up next was the main event between Will Ospreay and Daniel Garcia for the AEW International Championship. MJF entered first to be in Garcia's corner followed by the participants. In the end, MJF passed his Dynamite Diamond Ring and told Garcia to hit Ospreay with it. Garcia refused and gave the ring back to MJF only to be hit with the Hidden Blade by Ospreay and pinned for the three count, thus Ospreay retained the championship.[15]

After Ospreay left, MJF congratulated Garcia and helps him up and raises his hand. Garcia got a standing ovation from the live crowd only for MJF to low blow Garcia and attack him with the ring. Matt Mernard runs to the ring in order to help Garcia but MJF hits him with the ring. Both Garcia and Mernard end up becoming bloodied and then MJF performs a top rope tombstone on Garcia. Ospreay runs down to the ring but MJF escpaes into the crowd and starts to antagonise the fans in the stands. Garcia is stretchered off by medical personnel and Mernard as Ospreay looks on, as the show comes to a close.[16]
