Boating is an oil-on-canvas painting by French artist Édouard Manet. in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The painting depicts a point in the summer in Argenteuil (which was across the River Seine). It shows a man and woman on an outdoor excursion. The man in the painting is often thought to be Rodolphe Leenhoff, the Manet's brother-in-law. The identity of the woman is still not clear, however artists have their suspicions.[1]
Boating was showen in the Salon of 1879, and it has been described as "quintessentially Monet Esque".[2] The painting is currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City in Gallery 818.
