Brian Ngugi is a Kenyan journalist currently working for The Standard (Kenya) as an economic journalist.
He has worked as a writer, reporter, editor and financial analyst in various newspapers and news companies in Kenya, such as The Standard Newspaper, Daily Nation, and Business Daily Africa, which is published by Nation Media Group.[1][2] His work has also been featured in The Africa Report, Inter Press Service, and Equal Times.[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Ngugi was born in Naivasha, Nakuru County in the Rift Valley region of Kenya.
He attended Milimani Primary School and Njoro Boys High School before joining the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication in 2006, graduating with a Diploma in Broadcast Journalism in 2009.
In 2014, Ngugi joined the University of Nairobi and graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor's degree in Science in Political Science and Sociology, Communication Minors.
Career
[edit]Ngugi's career in journalism began in 2009 as a business reporter. In August 2015, Ngugi joined Nation Media Group (NMG) editorial department as a financial analyst and business reporter for Business Daily Africa, a newspaper published by NMG. In early April 2022, he was featured on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) news to discuss reasons behind acute fuel shortages in Kenya.[4] After working in NMG for over 7 years, Ngugi resigned. In September 2022, he joined The Standard Group as a senior political and economics reporter.[5]
