Café Hagen is a small chain of Scandinavian bakeries and coffee shops in Seattle, in the U.S. state of Washington. The business has operated in South Lake Union, downtown Seattle, and Queen Anne, and has an associated coffee brand is known as Hagen Coffee Roasters.[1]

Café Hagen was founded by owner Maria Beck in December 2019. Hagen Coffee Roasters has competed in the United States Barista Championship and other coffee competitions.

Description

Café Hagen is a small chain of Scandinavian and Danish-inspired bakeries and coffee shops in Seattle.[2][3] The business has operated in South Lake Union,[4] downtown Seattle, and Queen Anne.[5] The South Lake Union location has an astroturf patio and the interior has many faux plants.[6]

Café Hagen serves breakfast and lunch, as well as weekend brunch.[6] The menu includes lavender oat milk lattes and other espresso drinks,[7] as well as beer and wine.[1] Food options include avocado bowls,[8] salmon toasts, and pastries.[9]

History and reception

Café Hagen was established in December 2019.[10] Maria Beck is the founder and owner.[6] A third location opened in Queen Anne in 2022.[11][12]

Aimee Rizzo included Café Hagen in The Infatuation's 2023 list of Seattle's best cafes for getting work done.[13] Hagen Coffee Roasters has competed in the United States Barista Championship (2019,[14] 2024),[15] among other coffee competitions.[16] For the 2024 barista competition, Noel Goodwin used a Yellow Bourbon variety of coffee grown in Colombia.[17]

Venture Coffee Co., which is also owned by Beck,[18] has been described as a sibling company to Hagen Coffee Roasters.[19]
