List of episodes

The fortieth series of the British medical drama television series Casualty, titled Driving Force, began airing on BBC One in the United Kingdom on 22 July 2023. The series focuses on the professional and personal lives of medical and ancillary staff at the emergency department (ED) of the fictional Holby City Hospital. Jon Sen continues his role as the executive producer and Liza Mellody continues as series producer. Driving Force is the third series of the shorter narrative arcs introduced by Sen.

Production[edit]

Series 40 is primarily filmed at Roath Lock Studios, located in Cardiff, where the serial has been produced since 2011.

The series commenced in the United Kingdom on 22 July 2023 on BBC One, a week after the conclusion of the thirty-ninth series. It is produced by BBC Studios.[1] Jon Sen continues his role as executive producer. Liza Mellody serves as series producer.[2] Filming for Casualty primarily takes place in a purpose-built studio at the BBC Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff, although the nature of the show means that filming also takes place on-location. On-location filming often occurs in Cardiff and other areas of southern Wales.[1]

Driving Force was initially promoted under the previous series structure, with series 38 commencing from the episode "Aftermath",[3] but was subsequently recategorised to align with the story arc format.

Cast[edit]

Jaye Jacobs departed the series in episode 10 at the conclusion of her character's story. Her departure had not been announced prior to transmission.[4] The following episode features the exit of Robert Pugh when his character Gethin kills himself.[5]
