Category:Chicago White Stockings (NABBP) players

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Players for the Chicago White Stockings of 1870 and 1871, first in the National Association of Base Ball Players and then in the new all-professional National Association.

This category covers two seasons in two associations. The name "NABBP" of the first association obscures that but this helps distinguish them from the long history of the same club beginning 1874. The Chicago Base Ball Club did not field a team for two seasons after the 1871 fire and did not rehire many of its former players in 1874. For many purposes today, the Chicago Cubs and baseball writers recognize a history that begins 1874 or 1871. Here it seems reasonable to pair the two early seasons and distinguish them from the later ones.

  • See also Category:Chicago White Stockings players. That one covers 1871, 1874, and 1875, the three seasons for Chicago BBC teams in the professional Association ("NAPBBP").
  • Beginning 1876 the players categories break the long history according to team nickname.
