This category contains immigrants of the Fifth Aliyah, which occurred from 1929 to 1939. The onset of racial persecution in Nazi Germany led to a mass migration between 1933 and 1939, with at least 55,000 Jews from Central Europe immigrating to Palestine or residing there as semi-permanent residents. Although the 1936–1939 Arab riots in Mandatory Palestine slowed the immigration somewhat, fears of Nazi persecution outweighed these concerns. As a result, the total number of arrivals reached between 225,000 and 300,000 Jews.
