West Asia, as defined by the World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions
  • It includes lichen taxa that are native to West Asia. Taxa of the lowest rank are always included. Higher taxa are included only if endemic.
  • For the purposes of this category, "Western Asia" is defined in accordance with the World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions, and adopted here for use with lichen flora. That is, the geographic region known as Western Asia is defined as including the following areas, typically defined by the political boundaries of its constituents:
  • Afghanistan
  • Cyprus
  • East Aegean Islands
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Lebanon-Syria ("Greater Syria")
    • Lebanon
    • Syria
  • Palestine (geographic region including Israel and Jordan)
  • Sinai
  • Turkey (excluding the European part)
