Category:Metropolises without suffragan dioceses

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Eastern Orthodox Church, some metropolitan bishops have oversight of other eparchies in their metropolitan territory, in additional to their remit as ordinary within their own eparchy. This is similar to the ecclesiastical of organisation of the Catholic Church wherein archbishops have authority over suffragan dioceses in addition to their own archdiocese. However, in Eastern Orthodoxy, an eparchy can be known as a metropolis simply as an honorific as the metropolitan has no supervisory remit beyond the territory of his eparchy. This category is confined to the latter.
