Appearance
Metropolitan bishops of the Ruthenian Uniate Church from 1808 to 2005 (i.e. from the partitions of Poland until the emergence of an independent Ukraine following the collapse of the Soviet Union). The metropolitans were also Archbishops of Lemberg (the modern city of Lviv). The name "Ukrainian Catholic church" has been used popularly and in official Vatican documents since the early 1960s to refer to all Ukrainian Catholics in the diaspora and the underground church in Ukraine. In 2006, the archbishop was raised to a Major Archbishop and the ecclesiastical territory (or metropolis) was renamed to the Major Archeparchy of Kyiv–Galicia.
