Age of Sail ships[edit]
A question - is this a valid category for an encyclopedia. Why? - Because the age of sail is a very imprecise era and open to all sorts of interpretation and opinions. For example presumably the Age of Sail starts when man first used sails/wind as the norm for propulsion through until steam/motor powered vessels became the norm - or maybe not and if so what are the dates?
Key point - there is not a start date or end date for the Age of Sail hence should the category and associated sub-categories be removed? Or should 'Age of' be deleted so the category becomes 'Sail ships'? When does a ship become a boat? There are existing categories which cover all these options.
Recommend the category is deleted. Any thoughts on this? Boatman (talk) 08:45, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
