Deprecated[edit]

This category will soon be deprecated. Please see talk Category talk:Amateur Radio Operator The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kd4ttc (talk • contribs) .

Probably not. Further discussion at the above page came to an understanding that separate categories are used for grouping Wikipedians and Articles. This category is being used for the later. To this date, I still don't like the name of the category but I haven't heard anything better. --StuffOfInterest 18:05, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My intent when creating this category was to contain people who are notable in the amateur radio community, not to list anyone who happens to be an operator. Mirror Vax 04:09, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why are callsigns not listed?[edit]

I've noticed that in several articles about hams, their callsigns are not given. Is there a reason for this, or is this just an oversight? N0YKG 17:13, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One of the reasons that some wanted the category deleted was because it was not sourced or not verifiable. If a callsign is included then it usually can be verified. --jmb 09:13, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

People?[edit]

I'm curious as to why this is named "Amateur radio people", which suggests it might include (if there are such things) performers on amateur radio as well as...um...do they still call them radio hams? Deb 17:02, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the defininition (or more precisely regulation) of Amateur radio, anyone "performing" on it will likely loose their license. The category is for those people who are involved in Amateur radio in some way. I've never liked the name for this category but it does correctly represent its purpose at this time. --StuffOfInterest 17:38, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that! Deb 19:56, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Steve Wozniak[edit]

Why is Steve Wozniak a subcategory? It looks as if someone might have edited a page incorrectly. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jmb (talkcontribs) .

Good catch! I've moved the reference from the category to the article. --StuffOfInterest 16:38, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry thought I had signed it! --jmb 21:53, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

K1JT[edit]

Why isn't Joe Taylor on the list? I'd add him but I can't see the code. I'd say a Nobel winner was important enough to be listed. - VK4TU —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.49.27.157 (talk) 03:34, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
