Question

[edit]

Are people being added to this category simply because they have Irish sounding names? --Falcadore (talk) 23:18, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Better late than never, perhaps!!! One would hope not, but there is really no way to tell, and it probably doesn’t matter. Many articles about Australians of Irish descent contain no proof of such heritage but this seems not to excite the Citation police. It is also worth noting that many Australian are descended from both Irish and Northern Irish but this is seldom revealed in their articles, sometimes because it is not known outside the families, or was ignored by earlier biographers, or was not relevant at the time biographies were written.
