These are not collectors of Asian art

[edit]

This category is for people who are Chinese nationals who collect art. The type of art they collect does not matter. They should not be sub-categorized under "collectors of Asian Art", because that is not what this is. This is Chinese nationals who collect art, not people regardless of nationality who collect art.John Pack Lambert (talk) 15:13, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Says who? I think you will find the current contents are all Chinese collectors of Chinese art. In the past I think it contained Western collectors also. Has the scope of the category ever been discussed or confirmed? I don't think so. But people feel entitled to fiddle. Johnbod (talk) 16:35, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The intended scope is Chinese nationals who collect art. It should not matter what art they collect. So it does not belong in Chinese art, because they do not have to collect Chinese art, however we define it, they only need to be Chinese nationals.John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:32, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is ONLY the case because of undiscussed fiddling by you and others. This is how it was in 2016. If you unilaterally decide to reduce the scope, as you have done, you should set up Category:Collectors of Chinese art (to which ALL these would in fact belong). This ambiguity would be removed if the subcategories of Category:Art collectors by nationality (of which this category is one) were changed to the style Fooian collectors of art. Or, perhaps, Art collectors from Fooland, like these examples, all but one of which are for cities. Ham II (talk) 18:44, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
